Brax Technologies sent out an email explaining their pre-order process. This comes shortly after I announced I wouldn't be pre-ordering the Brax Wink. I believe this email was sent in response to my post so let me clarify what I meant to both you the audience and @braxtechnologies
Hi everyone, it's Andres,
and I wanted to go live earlier today as I record this, but I couldn't.
I got held up at a press junket that went on much longer than expected,
but it's all learning experience that I
do hope to share with you very, very soon.
But there were a couple of items that I didn't want
to wait on because they were very important and timely.
I might expand on one of them a little later.
But I do want to address one thing,
because I don't know if this was intentional or not,
but Brax Technologies sent an email
to their newsletter subscribers earlier today,
and the title of it is, Is it safe to pre-order Brax Wink?
And this comes on the heels of me dropping an episode literally titled,
The Brax Wink and Why I Won't Be Pre-Ordering.
I know the team watches my videos,
so I expect Rob and the team to be watching this one too.
Maybe Clement and the other guys are watching.
I, so if that was a response to that, I just want to,
I'm going to read the email, but I just want
to put this out ahead of time to say
that the video was not in any way to mean anything
disparaging. I wasn't even discouraging anybody from pre-ordering.
I was literally expressing me
as a consumer, um, why I wouldn't do it.
But I also understand the business side of things
because I'm a business owner myself.
And I even expressed this all the way through in almost
every single one of my Brax videos, uh,
that's a small businesses have it hardest. So
um if this was a response
to that and my constructive criticism was maybe taken the
wrong way i i want you to know that i didn't mean it
in that way i wasn't kind of trying to disparage
disparage i wasn't even trying to discourage uh pre-ordering
in fact you guys have two different
pre-order programs one that you prepay the whole thing
at a discounted rate a deeply discounted
rate or you can reserve it for 30 bucks
um but it's at a much higher cost for the phone
So that, look, it's awesome that you guys are giving those options.
And in the email you guys sent,
paying for a phone that ships next year is a fair thing
to think twice about.
Here is how we've set it up.
I know, because that's exactly what I said in the video.
I'm like, whoa, this thing's shipping in July for the first,
back to September for the second.
You know, that's a long, long time for a phone because,
you know, specifications get old
and a lot of logistics can change and things like that.
So it's a, you can get your money back.
Both the $30 reservation and the full payment are refundable.
If you change your mind, contact us and we'll refund what you pay.
You're not locked in whichever way you order.
How batches work.
Orders paid in full ship first.
Orders paid in full ship first.
In batch one in July 2027,
reservations ship in batch two in September 2027.
Within each batch, orders ship in the order they were placed.
So yeah, and I totally get that
because that's the experience that many of us
that invested early on for the batch three also experienced.
But here's the other thing though,
which is what I was trying to highlight.
Is that, yes, things change.
But if people go back and see some of the comments on my videos,
that's those that invest get emotionally connected.
So then they're the loudest ones that complain.
So I do have people that have complained
about either the timeline getting pushed back
or things being changed
or people saying that they're ignoring me.
I'm trying to ask for a refund.
That is not what I was promised, blah, blah, blah.
These kinds of things happen.
How much of that is true and how much is trolling?
I cannot say, I cannot verify,
but these things do and can happen.
I was only highlighting the emotional connection
that people would have.
And because we live in a society of instant gratification.
Or at least concrete timelines of what to look forward to,
because they make plans in their
heads that are always going to come out on this date.
That's what they want. But if things are
uncertain, therefore, they'll complain more,
because they want to make sure they don't go
ignore it. See, this happens not just with Brax,
it doesn't just happen just with clicks either, or
Even unplugged when they said they're going to ship out some updates.
You know, this is a common occurrence for anything in which you have
to pre-order without a predetermined set release date.
Because, you know, it's open-ended in a way.
Because if we're aiming for this, but it could be later,
it could be sooner, you never know.
And oftentimes in the tech world,
it usually means it's pushed back more.
And just like the open slate announcement that we just got this week,
which is a big bummer for
those of us that have been waiting.
So that's what I meant about the video that I made for why I won't
be pre-ordering. Although that $30 thing is tempting,
but I'll circle back to this in a bit.
Let me finish this email
because I'm not questioning these next two parts. If something
changes, specification and ship dates may change before shipping.
If they do, we'll email you
before any balances do so you can decide what to do.
I experienced it with the Pebble.
The pebble took way longer to get than was promised.
So this is just something that happens.
I was told I was going to be getting in the April batch.
I didn't get until, what, August, I think it was.
So it took a long time for me to get my pebble.
And they didn't charge me until they were getting ready to ship.
At least the difference,
because there was some things that they had to change on it.
So yeah, I totally get it.
This is in line with what I've been experiencing
in the industry with independent tech space.
So who's building it?
We've been making de-Googled phones since Brax 2,
which we launched more than five years
ago, and tens of thousands of people have used them.
Quantities and batch are limited,
so don't wait too long to secure yours.
And I believe it, because I've seen just how quickly some
of these things have been picked
up.
But all I'm trying to say is that.
Look what's happening with Apple,
and this is kind of with the JerryRigEverything episode that came out.
He dropped two of them, one that I wanted
to respond to because it angered me,
but I'll save that for some other time,
and some of you might know what that is.
But the other one is his follow-up
to the durability test of the iPhone Duo.
So then to try to get to the bottom of why is it
that the phone wasn't lasting according to the sand.
Some people are saying, oh, look at all the sand that's in that thing.
That Jerry put in there versus what he put in the Samsung.
It seems so unfair for him to weigh it that way.
Well, it turns out that a lot of the videos,
even the ones that I was seeing that were coming out early
on from those that got their phones, the iPhone duos,
were showing defects on the screen almost immediately, within hours.
And I'm like, okay, maybe that's a China batch
because they're like the first ones to get it.
But as time went on, I started seeing,
OK, that's not just the Asian market.
This is a little more beyond that.
And this seems to be a widespread problem.
And one of the common things that a lot
of us saw that we're actually paying attention
to this was that it was happening around the same spot of the screen.
And when Zach, he tore it down,
he found the likely culprit is this part of the hinge
mechanism that's puncturing the display.
So while Apple...
is responding by replacing the screen that's
a bandage to an actual um engineering defect to
this thing with this with the hinge most likely being the culprit
so replacing the screen will
not fix that issue unless the hinge is addressed itself
and i'm glad that zach brought that up for
science uh and hopefully apple was responsible
because they should apologize for what happened
if it wasn't for what zach did with the scratch gate remember that
If it wasn't for Zach bringing up the whole,
hey, look, the Galaxy Note 7 is exploding,
my goodness, there would be a lot of issues.
So kudos to Zach.
For that, it's a shame that we,
while we sharply disagree on political points,
that he goes a little more beyond that.
And that's to the extent of what I'll say,
because or else I'm going to get all riled up again,
because I tried doing this video multiple times today,
and every time I think about it, I'm like, damn it, Zach.
But that's one of the reasons why I don't follow him,
but I keep up with some of the important...
videos that I think are newsworthy
and the Apple iPhone Duo is definitely newsworthy. Now,
why do I bring this up? The iPhone Duo
is a first generation device. And for many people,
they're like, oh, look, Samsung built that device.
Well, then you have the Apple fanboy saying, no,
no, no, Apple actually built the screen.
And you actually hear Mr. Mobile, the way he interviewed
and discussed this with the engineers and execs over at Apple,
is that the screen itself comes
It comes from, it's supplied by Samsung, but...
The device itself is pure Apple engineering,
and that's a big deal, because that means
it really rests on Apple.
So the Apple fanboys are like,
this is not built by Samsung, this is built by Apple.
Yeah, but now that the phone has problems,
guess what they're trying to throw under the
bus?
Well, this thing's built by Samsung.
No way, hey, hey, hey, you guys said
this is fully engineered by Apple, but Samsung
only supplied the screens, and now Samsung's like,
whoa, whoa, whoa, leave us out of this,
man, all we did was supply the materials,
you guys did your own engineering.
So Apple has to own up to this.
This isn't AntennaGate.
This isn't Scratch.
All right.
Was it BendGate?
This one isn't the HairGate, you know,
where the phones are catching hair and stuff.
This is beyond that.
This is a super hyper expensive phone
with an actual issue that needs to be addressed.
And this is probably why Apple had so limited inventory
to send out there.
You probably heard the news,
oh my gosh, those phones sold out like immediately.
Yeah, they only have five.
You have 20 people in line or more,
which is often the case here in the LA area, then
what do you get?
Duh, they're going to sell out.
So they made the headlines, sure,
but they have very limited supply, okay?
And I think this is a good thing because Apple should recall it.
Everything that I've been seeing now, Apple should recall it.
So why the segue to the Apple Duo?
How does that connect to the Brax Wink?
The Brax Wink isn't just that it's
a touchscreen device that's four inches square, okay?
It's a modular phone with multiple parts,
therefore requiring an ecosystem all around it.
And I've seen it before.
And I say, I don't trust Brax.
I'm just saying that I've seen it before.
But we've been promised an ecosystem built around
a device that hasn't been launched yet,
which is the first gen.
And oftentimes, they don't live up to the expectations
because the ecosystem does not exist.
So I want to see the ecosystem built out beyond just what we've seen.
Like, it looks like a Blackberry, a lot smaller.
If it's just the little square that they're selling, if Brax,
if you are just literally pitching the little square screen,
that would be smart because what if the keyboard's not ready?
It's supposed to be touch sensitive.
What if the other modular parts aren't ready yet?
Because we've been told that BRAX 3 is a right-to-repair device,
and I haven't seen the store populated
with enough right-to-repair options
to be able to fix them.
So this is what I mean.
And we're talking about a team of, what, a dozen maybe over at BRAX
versus Samsung and Apple that have R&D departments
that rival some countries.
So with that in mind, I'm a firm believer in the mission.
That's where I was coming from in this.
I'm not questioning that I don't trust you to deliver a product.
I do.
It's just that now there's a promised ecosystem in light
of everything else you're going to try to accomplish.
And I'm definitely rooting for you.
I definitely want to be there.
That Walla thing is definitely one that I'm considering.
I don't know so much about the AI.
We'll see about that.
But I'm glad it's there.
These are great to have alternatives to the top dogs
because we're sick of the duopoly.
So I want this device to succeed.
That's why I was saying I'm not sure I'm going to pre-order it
because it is a first-gen device.
So that's where I was coming from in all
this because I don't want to be emotionally attached
because right now I'm I'm impatient about the clicks communicator.
It's it's gone a little
longer than I expected because I anticipated
that thing to be in my hands in August,
not in December. And I'm not sure that the OS is going
to be it's going to be as polished
as possible, but it's definitely going
to be something in beta because here we have
a software is being optimized for hardware
that has yet to be tested with Android.
Successfully like that and they're out they're also putting
and I brought this up in all those click communicator videos
I've asked these questions
and I haven't seen anyone from clicks give a direct answer just yet
And I'm sure they're working on it because they got Kevin Nicola
and Michael Fisher at the helm too
It's not just a Galloway. I forget
his first name Jeff Galloway. I think his name is
He's the one I've been doing all the circuits
and that I would love to have on the show to discuss this
But I want more pointed questions about the actual
Uh, owner experience that we should anticipate for the communicator.
Okay.
That to me is the biggest part
because these things are not meant like Apple devices or
Samsung devices that people are trading them
in like every six months to a year to get
the latest one, if at all possible in this economic climate,
but we don't have that luxury
with these independent tech spaces.
We don't get that.
So these devices are meant to last a little longer.
For example, the unplugged phone,
it's been two years now, and they're still on the same
phone, but the user experience
is significantly different than the first time it launched,
so it feels like a whole new phone experience.
And I know that they're working
some way somehow for the next generation of their device
which is going to be a big deal even though
it might be a smaller footprint i'm just assuming here
because what the audience has been asking for
but overall in their intent it's smart to try to optimize the software
as a priority instead of trying to get new hardware out
when there's still more potential
for the existing hardware. So longevity really matters.
The money doesn't come from the hardware,
it comes from the software.
So that's why for Brax, like I said, I'm rooting for them.
I didn't mean my video to be taken the wrong way
and I hope there's no hard feelings there, but
that's really what I wanted to address.
In this video, because of the email that came through,
is it safe to pre-order the Brax Wings?
Like, yes, I know. I know it is.
And this is very different than, say, the early Kickstarter days.
There are a lot of growing pains there that we all went through.
But we hung in there. We hung in there.
But there's members of the community
that chimed in significantly in my videos
throughout the entire process, including now with the OpenSlate.
So I will be doing the video to announce
the bummer news about the OpenSlate
and talk some other tech things that are coming up.
So I'm going to save that one for a future episode
because I got a lot of tech stuff happening in the background.
And if you didn't see my unboxing video,
then I'll just show you here now.
This is the Sleek Phone, and it is a Google Pixel device.
I believe it's an 8.
So that's not entirely the point.
The point is what's this thing's running
and I have yet to set it up
because I'm going to be getting my real reaction
and I've already spoken to the team
and I intend to have the founders of Sleek and Odyssey OS
because I was connected to Enough Phone
on the program and we talked about this.
So stay tuned.
We're trying to make it happen in November
and a lot of it really depends on my schedule at this point
because they're all game to come on the show
and also to answer your questions
which I'll be piling up.
Stay tuned for that, but until then,
I just wanted to put that out there for Brax to get
us out of the way, and because I'm doing this from my home gym,
excuse me, my garage, for those of
you that are wondering what the heck
is that I'm wearing, I know it's not a Batman thing.
Because I haven't got my Batman stuff next to me.
It's like, how dare I have something that's not Batman?
Well, I have Batman stuff here.
This is my cowl.
It doesn't fit me though.
And the desk that it's on is a Dark Knight themed desk from Secret Lab.
But this here is from Super X.
Super X is a gym apparel company.
And now they have gym equipment.
So there's...
A weighted vest, there's kettle bells,
and there's more things that are coming, and a lot of these things
are styled in the way of either comic book heroes
or in some cases Star Wars, which is the latest thing.
So as soon as this video goes up,
a new Star Wars line of apparel will be announced by
Super X.
And you can go to superxapparel.com so you
can check out the entire lineup.
And I just wanted to clarify how some of this works.
For the new lineup, it's an announcement just like it
is with the Brax devices.
You're reserving something for the future.
So it's being announced now, but it won't launch until about spring.
So sometime March, I believe.
But that doesn't mean they don't have stuff that's in stock.
They have other stuff that's in stock.
Different characters from the DC Universe,
the Marvel Universe, Star Wars stuff, and
you're going to love the whole Darth Maul lineup
with this next Star Wars stuff.
And I mean Star Wars.
Not Disney Star Wars, okay?
So thank you, SuperX, for getting that right.
Awesome game.
You know it.
You know it.
But keep an eye out because I think we're going
to get a very special gym equipment
coming out in November.
But definitely go check out superxgymapparel.com.
If you like what you see, use promo code DeAndre Segovia to go there.
I'm an ambassador with them.
You can save at checkout.
They invited me to be part of the program.
And believe me, it's maybe a psychological thing.
But the whole, the hero's journey,
or even coming back from falling, like being defeated,
that's how I feel in my own health journey.
Because I've had so many health problems
over the past 18 months that I've been very mum about.
And I couldn't let that go by much longer.
And I had to take things really serious this year.
Some of it comes with age.
Other stuff is just, you know, it's just life happens.
So it's more about life happens and having to cope with it.
And I haven't given up.
I haven't given up.
So I just try to keep showing up,
and that's what I'm going to keep doing.
And SuperX is helping me along the way.
Anyway, that's it.
Remember to like, share, and subscribe if you didn't know.
Make sure to follow me across socials.
If you're on Instagram, follow me on Instagram.
Help me get to 1,000 followers so I can get back
to be able to livestream over there too.
I would appreciate you guys all there.
And honestly, that is my number one social media.
Followed closely by Parter, Pickaxe, X, and Gab.
Yes, that truly is on Gab, and I'm on Google.
Plus there are social media platforms and video platforms
because I don't like to depend on just one,
but I appreciate wherever you are tuning into my program.
Believe me, everyone that you count.
Anyway, that's it.
See you next time.
