The Boston Bruins just got some very good news at the beginning of their training camp
and day one and two now over.
We've got some first looks at JJ Paterka, some quotes from David Poshnok, Matt Poitra
and Pavel Zakh and a whole bunch of news ahead of the regular season.
And folks, we're going to be touching on all this here in today's video.
Before we do get into it, though, if you haven't already, be sure to drop a sub on the channel.
We're covering everything Boston Bruins as the days go by during training camp, the pre-season,
ahead of the regular season and with so much coming up, you're not going to want to miss it.
Be sure to drop a sub and join me here on the channel.
Now, I want to get straight into this and I first want to touch on the groups that we
saw today and yesterday and what changes were made.
And we go ahead right here and look at this from Scott McLaughlin and look at group A.
Dylan McKinnon is here today, Billy Sweezy is not, but these are the lines.
Two lines that we normally see in the NHL.
Then you go Biasca, Poitra-Reichel, Bongiovanni, Gantz, Hellonen, Ivan and Mutters.
So, when we're looking at the offense, a lot of depth here on the third and fourth line,
I guess, and fifth line with no center.
But the big part about this, Matt Poitra and Lucas Reichel, both currently sitting outside
of the regular NHL lines.
Now, this is only day two.
There's no reason to panic just yet.
There's no need to worry whatsoever because we're going to see these guys rotate in and
ultimately see who plays best where, who plays best with who and all of this.
But right now, just getting a structure to the groups is what the Bruins are trying to do.
That is something that I desperately wanted to see and that has now made it a possibility.
Overall, very excited to see what kind of lines we look at on the defense as well because
they seem to be mixing those up pretty early to see where things can get rolling.
But when we look at group B right here, also from Scott McLaughlin, the only change is Gallagher
and Sweezy flip the groups.
Middlestat, Zaka, Piterka.
Keep that in mind, we're going to bounce back to that in a second.
So, we're looking at the offense here as well.
The top two lines also seemingly being the NHL pairings that this team is ready to go with.
But, JJ Piterka on a line with Pavel Zaka and Casey Middlestat.
I really like the way that seems because you're getting kind of a replacement for Victor Arvidson
who left in free agency to go to the Detroit Red Wings, but you're getting an upgrade.
JJ Piterka has a much better shot, hands, and speed and you're pairing him with Pavel Zaka
and Casey Middlestat and we saw how good those two with Arvidson were last year.
If you can upgrade a player on this line, they may really kind of take over as that primary line,
that primary scoring option for this Bruins offense.
Of course, it's hard to assume now because you want David Pasternak and you know David Pasternak
can really kind of heat things up by himself.
But if we're looking at one line in specific, I'm really liking the way that that one looks
not being changed from this regular look on the lineup from last season.
That was something that that team really liked.
There was kind of thoughts around perhaps James Hagans centering this team,
but that has not been the case.
I like the looks of that as he is seemingly going to be that number one center in the AHL to start,
but if we at least look at it right now,
we kind of look where things are.
This is what we're looking at for the Bruins lineup.
If this is without any changes, Gigi back on the first line like it was last year,
the second line having J.J. Paturkan instead of Arvidson, third line staying the same,
and the fourth line also kind of looking the same, which of course could have a change from Mikey Acemon,
could see some other names in there.
But the defense, Frederick Burnett, Charlie McEvoy, Amplison Dome, Will Borgen,
Nikita Zdorov, Connor Clifton, no Mason Lowry in there.
Something to keep an eye on and if that could indicate some sort of trade
that could be on the horizon for this team as it has been reported for how long now?
Well, you know, pretty much since March and the trade deadline last year.
So a lot of things to consider, but overall, I really do like the way that this team looks,
but I think the biggest surprise and kind of not even surprise,
but the thing that I really like to start off is J.J. Paturkan on that second line.
Like I kind of said a minute ago, it's just an upgrade from Victor Arvidson.
You're getting a lot of what you want to see, but for someone who's 24 years old as well
and is already as good as he is, is going to be getting better
and really just needs a little bit more experience on those lines with him,
he's going to be a very good option at the right wing slot on line 2,
but also be a left wing slot on line 2 depending on what they want to do in taking middle stat.
But even the first line, there is going to be that option of switching him and Geeky.
You put Paturkan on the first line alongside Elias Lindholm and David Pasternak.
You put on the second line what we saw last year, except for more Geeky down there.
That's the benefit of having someone like J.J. Paturkan.
He can fit into multiple different scenarios,
and we're going to see a lot of different tests about J.J. Paturkan
throughout this beginning of training camp and into the actual games of preseason.
That's going to be the biggest kind of look here.
To see what may change, where is best for J.J. Paturkan,
and if he'll jump onto a power play, which it's hard to assume he won't,
and kind of build this lineup to be as good as it can be.
But the other player that I mentioned, Mason Ulrich.
Pretty interesting situation going on with him because if we're looking at his contract,
we know that he's expiring, we know that a lot of teams are already interested in him,
and from what we know, it doesn't seem like the Bruins are all that willing
to go out and confirm a contract extension, but we know things can change.
If we're looking at how this type of player, like Mason Ulrich, could go into the trade.
We've spoken about it here before.
You're getting value from Mason Ulrich pretty much no matter where he goes
because of how many teams are going to be in a sense of a bidding war for him.
If you like the defense the way it looks right now, and of course throughout training camp,
you're really going to get a much bigger decision from Don Sweeney and Marco Sturm on the future.
Of Mason Lowry, this is going to open another big door for the Bruins,
so that will also be something to keep an eye on,
and we're going to have it right here on the channel,
so be sure to drop us a sub if you want to stay up to date with all of that,
on top of everything else.
We have a bunch of quotes here today as well,
and I first want to start off with this one from David Postner.
He said,
To be honest, there is no room for mistakes in our division.
Everybody's getting better, including us.
So yeah, 100 points to the new 90 points to make the playoffs, I would say.
Postner, kind of speaking of last year of this team,
the question was asked, does he think that the 100 points is going to be good enough,
or do they need to exceed that?
Looking at how the Atlantic was last year, really compared to the Metro,
and you look at the top three in the Central,
100 points in today's NHL, kind of crazy to say,
that almost puts you in the border of a playoff spot,
and we know that, like you saw David Postner say,
teams in the Atlantic are getting better.
You cannot afford to drop a lot of games,
and you need to be on your best at all times,
and that's where someone like Matt Plotcher may come in,
and what he had to say surrounding his quote with being with the team
after signing his brand new extension.
See, every year's a big year, but yeah, I mean,
I really want to work hard here in the camp and earn an opportunity to play here,
kind of prove that I'm confident in myself,
and I am an everyday NHL player,
but just prove to everybody that I can be in the lineup every night and be relied on,
and it was kind of spoken as well from Don Sweeney
that the fact that he's on a one-way deal
or excuse me, he's on a two-way deal but has to clear waivers,
it's going to be harder to have to send him down to the AHL,
knowing that he could be claimed,
so that is going to work in the benefit for Matt Plotcher,
but that doesn't mean that he's a mainstay at the NHL, guaranteed.
If you're not playing your way, you're going to be either traded
or you're going to be sent down to the AHL,
so certainly good opportunities for guys like Matt Plotcher, Lucas Reichel,
who know they have to make the team
But with another option,
Pawel Zaka, who's still waiting for that contract extension,
he spoke out on it as well,
and we're going to have a full video on this,
so if you want to stay up to date with Pawel Zaka's contract situation,
be sure to drop us off on the channel as well,
but he said,
Pawel Zaka does not seem too concerned whatsoever with this,
he wants to be here,
he knows that this is the goal, he wants to stay,
and right now, if I'm the Bruins,
we've seen a lot of opportunities where it could be a better time to trade,
it could be a better time to keep him,
and we know how deep the center is with this team.
Pawel Zaka is a very tough guy to lose on this team,
especially with the way he played last year,
so it's going to be something to keep an eye on,
with training camp, preseason,
the early part of the regular season with his contract on the brink of expiring,
and one more thing, folks,
said that the Bruins will announce a captain before opening night,
so that is also confirmed now,
we are getting a captain,
and we're going to touch on all of this news,
every update that we have,
when it drops immediately on the channel,
so folks, if you do want to stay up to date with everything going on,
be sure to drop us off here,
we have a lot of stuff coming,
you will not want to miss it,
but that is all I have here on this one,
I hope you did enjoy,
give it a like,
hit the sub button as well,
I'm signing out,
thank you for watching,
hope you have a great day.
