Oct 20, 2026
Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to provide depth in their receiving corps. While not the blockbuster move some fans desired, the signing leverages familiarity with the coaching staff and quarterback. The team continues to monitor the trade market and manage several key injury returns to bolster their roster.
We have some big news to go over today as Pittsburgh Steelers
have just made a new signing as they have signed a wide receiver
and they finally get some help in the wide receiving department,
but it is not the signing that many fans were hoping for.
We're going to break down exactly who they signed and more importantly,
discuss what it means going forward for this team
as they continue to look at making more moves.
Folks, before we get into all of it, a very
quick reminder to hit that subscribe button.
You guys are in peace with the support.
We also have a ton of updates from practice today,
including a note surrounding Deshaun Elliott.
now I had a video earlier today we're talking about
the potential of a Quentin Johnson trade
the potential of so many moves that could
be happening today and you know they're calling
around they want to make trades and they go ahead
and they sign Marquez Valdes Scantling
veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes Scantling plans
to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers
a league source told The Athletic
so after all the hoopla that's been going on over the past few days
past few weeks here obviously with Roman Wilson being hurt
and Michael Pittman Jr. being hurt
They decide to go with the classic man who was on,
you know, he played on the Steelers
last year, Aaron Rodgers guy, M.V.S.
Now, you know, I don't love this move.
I don't think it's the end of the world that people are talking about.
He's going to provide more value than
Brandon Johnson and Brandon Smith, right?
And that's ultimately what this is.
And I believe he's going to start on the
practice squad and probably get elevated.
He has more talent, I think,
than Brandon Johnson and Brandon Smith, right?
He's had years of 500 plus yards.
He's been a decent wide receiver throughout his career at times.
Last year, didn't provide a whole lot.
Now, at the same time, we can look at what he's done this year
in a very, very limited stint, 22 receiving yards on two receptions.
So he's averaging 11 yards per reception.
He's age 32. Now he's not a young buck,
but clearly Aaron Rodgers loves Marquez Valdes Scantling.
That's basically the explanation
for this is that Aaron Rodgers loves him clearly, right?
Like that's the guy that Aaron Rodgers wants to have on the team.
It's not, you know, I mean, they could have kept with Brandon Johnson.
they could have went with Brandon Smith.
They could have went and signed someone else off a
practice squad. They could have signed a free agent.
At the end of the day, they clearly now
are going after Marquez Valdes Scantling.
And it's the familiarity that really makes this
interesting. Now I do want to make it clear.
I don't love the move. I see a lot of people
overreacting saying this is completely awful.
This isn't the big move to fix their wide receiving
core. I still think a trade is very, very possible.
I think there's a chance that they
make a bigger move for a potential, you know,
not offensive lineman, maybe potential offensive
line probably make a move for a you know
a bigger swing maybe a Jonathan Taylor who knows what
they're going to do like there's a lot of options for trades
but this is the first step on that now
we can talk about the reunion timeline obviously back
in November 4th of 2022 I had the video on
it he joined the Steelers practice squad back then
and then of course he was uh with the Chargers and
the Chargers released him and then he went
with uh I believe it was the Cowboys for a little bit
I don't exactly remember
but now of course he's planning with um or planning on signing with the
Steelers and he's expected to start on the practice squad
but I fully expect him to get elevated
on Saturday for Sunday's game I think
that's exactly where this is going to go ultimately
and we think back to his stint
with the Steelers it didn't really go great I mean it wasn't anything
to kind of you know ride home about
and it's interesting how this is going to affect some of
the other guys but you can see here he plans to sign
with Pittsburgh he's expected to begin the practice
squad and the active roster role is still to be determined
so as of now we don't exactly know
where he's going to be, if he's actually going to be playing on the,
you know, on the big team
for Sunday, but it's interesting.
So let's talk about why they did it. Familiarity. That's
obviously the biggest thing, right?
But I'm not blind or naive to the men that are out there,
especially if you work with individuals in the past
or they have a past relationship here and
so forth. So that was not about this signing,
but that was earlier in the week. And they've
been today, actually, or yesterday
when he was asked about whether or not he thinks moves are
going to come. He said they're absolutely
no shopping moves and was asked about whether
relationships matter and for him to say
that obviously you prefer kind of to work with guys
in the past that's where the familiarity
of MBS probably uh outran some of the other uh the other
guys and again he's a performer in the playoffs
in theory right like these are obviously limited
sample sizes that was in 2025
but i don't know it's going to be interesting he did play for the
Steelers started that game against the Texans
so he is a decent name right like it's a decent name
what is his role who knows at this point like he's
a familiar option with Aaron Rodgers for perimeter
receiver work and he can support Jeremy Bernard
rather than replace his opportunity and i do
i do think that's the biggest thing Jeremy Bernard's role
is growing right now he's a very
very good young wide receiver in this league
better than McKay Lemon just gonna throw that
out there's a little bit of a jab
but Bernard clearly has earned the trust of the team and
you can see from Mike McCarthy i think what Jeremy did yesterday
was outstanding he was the game ball
winner on offense so that speaks volumes
of how everybody feels about where he is and his climb
and his contribution to the offense i think even
when Roman Wilson returns and even when Michael
Pittman Jr returns Jeremy's going to have to be the WR2
and this Marquez Valdez Marquez Valdez
Scantling signing is not going to change that he
is not going to change where Jeremy Bernard stands
but let's dive into his kind of tenure throughout his career
and with the Steelers so obviously
you can see here last year with the Steelers five games put up 80 yards
was actually pretty decent
really it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible
this year i say cowboys was the chargers 22 yards
two games pretty rough i mean we think back to his time
with kansas city obviously was good he's just
a fine wide receiver right that's what he
is at this point hopefully uh has the drop issues as
well but they still have questions like you needed
proper wide receiver three i think i don't know if
he's the the guy but um no report that pittsburgh has ended
its wide receiver search so keep in mind
more moves are probably going to come
and that's going to be uh that's going to be interesting
right so let us know down below but let's dive
into a few of the other injury updates before we
wrap up here mike mccarthy spoke about deshaun elliott
who boy could they get back if you get
Deshaun Elliott back, Jalen Ramsey's playing at a Pro Bowl level.
I mean, Daylon Everett looks really, really good.
He said, well, and Jamel Dean, of course.
He said, well, I hope so.
I thought he had a great week last week.
So, you know, those are the conversations that we're having.
So there is potential that Deshaun Elliott progresses
and progresses towards a return.
Was obviously placed in the IR to start the season.
His practice window opened.
Yeah, I mean, 21 days, right?
From that day, we're getting somewhat closer.
You have until like late, I think another week or so.
So maybe he could play the following Sunday.
and it's not confirmed right now whether or not he's going to play
this upcoming Sunday, but it would
look good, right? You have a decent safety core
now. Obviously, you have Jalen Ramsey.
You pair that with Jamel Dean as a cornerback.
Sunday Samuel looks slowly but surely better.
Jalen Everett looks like a star, kind of stud rookie.
Star may be a stretch, but
star in the making. And obviously, you have some other
guys there. I'm excited for it.
And it's slowly but surely
you're looking like a decent defense. And of course,
Jaquan Brisker had a decent game. I mean, Rayshon Jenkins
wasn't good, but he's not on the team anymore.
So it is going to be interesting.
there a few other things from practice today you can see here
from Peyton Wilson we just realized
what we were doing the first few weeks wasn't
really working we had to take it up a notch
talks about Patrick Graham getting aggressive I think it's just
a credit to him finally just to
let it open and being aggressive
so there's just a lot of good vibes right now right and at the end
of the day between McCarthy and Dowdle they're both going
to have to grind they're both going
to have to run you can see here specific
specifically sorry he says we really like
both running backs a lot and they need to touch the ball
and obviously Rico Dowdle had a hell of
a game I mean there's no doubt about it I mean he
played really really well and he looked like he
was shot out of a cannon you can see
the stats here like everyone's gonna have to play their
game yes Jalen Warren had double the carries
Dowdle looked like he was shot out of a cannon
Jeremy Bernard with 87 yards
and something that went under the radar was DK Metcalf and his ability
so at the end of the day here it's going
to be interesting to see what happens keep in mind now
they do plan to fly to Paris after Thursday's
practice there's some crazy stuff going on in
the world in paris right now and he spoke about
that and said we looked at both options and we
clearly feel like this one leaving thursday
is the best for us we'll have to see what happens
especially as the days progress
but folks huge huge game against the Saints you can go for your
third win in a row and hopefully remain on top of that division
because all of a sudden this AFC
division is looking very very winnable
although very very difficult that loss against the Browns
is staying a little bit you would have been alone
at the top next practice being tomorrow followed
by Thursday we'll see what happens
and Deshaun Elliott we'll see what happens on Marquez Vald
and Scantling you guys have an absolute beast
with the support but comment down below whether
you think they should make another trade thank you guys
or another move sorry after this potentially
a trade thank you guys for watching absolutely peace
