The one mistake every golfer makes that will definitely cost your score on the golf course
I am standing here at
Sandgolf club holds the ninth position and I thought I would use it to show five of the most common mistakes I see
Golfers play on golf courses where each stroke costs them money per round they play
Under which of these five things will you definitely lower your score and have fun golf shots out there
We start
once Tip number one
We are at ten
We will hit a shot with our longest club which is hard to keep straight
The most common mistake I see golfers make is not taking their swing into account
All golfers swing the ball
Many golfers do not want to screw the ball
That means they want to hit me right in the middle aim right at my color and dream is to knock out clocks in a straight drive
Sorry to say it probably won 't
happen that often There are small
margins a little space in the club It's hard
If you look at the women and men on the world stage most of them play with more or less a twist
Of course they can control and move in both directions but everyone tends to have a preference
You've definitely got that too
A natural ball flight
Even that might be a very big screw-up in some direction
So it's actually something you can make use of
For those of you who have seen me play you know that my shot is a
lefty What does that mean
This means that when you play with me you will probably see if I'm trying to do something else
Will I be teeing off on the left side of the tee box
I will aim for the right side of the fairway and let my spin take care of bringing the ball back into the fairway
Yes it doesn't feel like I'm missing anything
I see it as doing it as safely as possible
So here since I aim to the left and aim to the right I get as much room as possible in the fairway over there to hit
So even if I hit an exaggerated shot to the left side and turn more than usual I have taken that into account
I also know that the right side is quite rare that I miss
I certainly don't aim that far out that a single right miss costs me anything
From here I will have a safe shot many times and even if I don't hit a perfect clock
It will still be a battle or rather the result of the battle will be okay
Great example I aim to the right side It actually hits straight
Stay on the right side I'm in the game I've got the distance and the result is quite good
It's perfect but I can continue playing from there There's no need to be worried about a mistake in any way
The missing piece is that I often see out there that we always try to hit the ball as far as possible
Oh I see the idea We want to get as close as possible to that green over there but what we often sacrifice when we choose to hit the ball as far as possible
Always it's that we will beat the clubs we don't like
I have an Iron 3 here I have over 250 meters to the face
This is theoretically the longest club in the mountains and it would be a good spot to hit it to get as much distance as possible
Men what I take into account is how good I am at hitting a Iron 3 from the fairway
I have a little moisture as well Can I hit the ball well I don't think so
I choose a safer alternative I take my Iron 6 instead I choose to hit it
It will cost me a few meters out there but I will be safer and more comfortable with the shot and probably get a better result more often
That's exactly what we're after if we want to perform well out there
So instead of trying to risk anything I take the longest club in the mountains and try to chew as many meters as possible
Then we play safe We move forward keep the ball in play maintain the pressure feel that it's a good team play and pass it on from there
Additionally a lot depends on mistake number 3
Again I can take the screw into account here I aim to the right side let the screw come if it wants to and work my way from there
Hey Definitely
Problem 3 and 2 are very closely related
Short and simple because problem number 3 is about how we often hit the ball from distances to holes we don't like
We are so focused on hitting the ball as far as possible that we don't think about how much distance it gives me when the ball stops
Even if we make a good strike what happens then
Something that happens very often when I play with a club is that they get stuck in the area from 80 meters down to 20
One of the distances that many many golfers have a hard time with
I can tell they don't like the fight they need to get out of that situation
They probably do it because of problem number two that we don't hit the ball as far as possible
So instead of thinking about what kind of thing I want to bring into the matter one just focuses on length and ends up in a bad position
This is a great example I am about 60 meters up to the flag from here
If I'm not comfortable with a 60-meter shot why should I hit my ball 60 meters from the pin
You definitely have a distance you like and even if it may feel strange to be on the fairway of a par five
If you hit another shot 126 meters to land at a distance you like it's worth it many many times over
Don't have any problems with the short distances by all means take advantage of it
Remember which distance you prefer and use it to your advantage
We just want to chase the flag and nothing else when you end up in such a situation
So mistake number three you end up at the distances you like which we really want to avoid
Fourth common mistake I see so many golfers make that out there is that we choose far too difficult shots in our approach play
We use much more space than we need and we don't think particularly smartly in these critical situations
A chip like this a position like this in the close game could be what gives me the chance to maybe save a few
Or save two points or whatever they may be or risk simply being left with nothing
I am 15-20 meters from the flag a pretty tight spot this one might be a bit shorter in the semiruff
I see many golfers hit from here when I choose a club with a lot of loft
This means I need to hit it quite hard to get it to last all the way through
It also increases the risk of things going wrong and that's exactly what we want to avoid
We want to make it as safe as possible as often as possible
I have never and I have never chosen a 58 56 or 60 degree
Even for me sometimes I can do it in front of the camera even though it's fun to play all the way through
Then the risk will be very high that it ends up there
Too short I hit it very well but I don't hit it hard enough it's harder to control
What I will do instead is choose a much less lofted club this time a Iron 8
My ball I'm going to hit this little chip and run that just rolls out because I do it as reliably as possible
I know that even though this is a game that's a bit more boring one that isn't as exciting for us
The more often I do this the better it will be leading to better results out here
So I take my little chip and try to roll it as close as possible
Even if I make a half-decent chip shot it usually means the result is at least acceptable
And I can be satisfied and secure it from there
If I hit it really really well then there's actually a risk it might go out from here
It's a bit half-bad a bit half-cracked maybe it's a bit thick or is it just a little bit on the top
The result is still okay and that's what we're after
Missing number five as I see it is that they simply
have the wrong attitude towards their long putts
The goal is always for the ball to go in the hole when we putt and I agree with that
The chance that the ball will go into the hole is huge
and even more so what happens if it doesn't go in
The best players in the world and professionals at all levels really know this today
They are extremely skilled at one thing on the ring
And that's what we call lag putting or getting both close to the hole from long distances
It's what saves them three putts and makes it more like two putts
Men that's what can help us maybe take four puts four down to three
Or three more points for us down to two and it's very much about my attitude
So if I have a putt that's five or six meters in front of me like this
I know my goal is to hit the ball into the hole but I
also know the chance that I hit it into the hole is very small
For we know that the pros also hit a very small percentage from here
This doesn't mean I shouldn't try to get it in the hole but I do need to think a bit more about it
How do I get this ball in if it doesn't go in I want it as close to the hole as possible
It shouldn't cost what it costs
It means that my focus when I'm here should be to get the ball in the hole
And number two if it doesn't go in I'll stay as close as possible simply put
Then I also know that for me on a club golf level it's actually
not the length that the ball needs to go past hole one must
If I'm a pro I know that the ball has to go past the hole otherwise I won't make a birdie
And it will cost me money
If you are a club golfer say 18 years old and have a handicap it doesn't matter if the ball goes past or not
It's more about taking it close than making many birdie putts
Because you need to save in the short game not lower your birdies and make fewer bogeys and so on
Eller forget it you don't need to lower your birdies you need to make fewer boogies
We do this by hitting the ball closer to the hole more often
That is I prefer to hit the ball short but close to the hole
I was just about to leave
Of course I'd like to hit it that way but I prefer to play short or near the hole
stead of hitting it near the hole for a short while and getting it to go past
Carefully align almost at the flagpole and then stop 4-5 meters back on the other side
Just a 1.5-meter margin is enough to significantly reduce the risk of you hitting the ball into the hole
So mistake number 5 play smart instead of taking it in close range
As long as you are not within your security zone proximity is what we are really looking for
These are five things I see so many amateur golfers do on the club level
So they cost a lot out there and there are many savings we
can make just by following and avoiding these five mistakes
Try it out and see if it doesn't help you play
better get a better score out there and have even more fun
Thank you very much for watching good luck with your training take care
