Could parts of Massachusetts see their first taste of winter next week?
A storm system expected around Friday could bring rain and wind to eastern Massachusetts, while areas north and west of I-495 could see a wintry mix and potentially minor accumulations.
There’s still plenty of uncertainty in the storm track, which will ultimately determine who sees rain, a mix, or possibly snow. Boston 25 meteorologists are closely monitoring the system as it develops.

Alright folks, so day planner
for today has us basically sitting in the 50s most of the day.
We might briefly touch about 60 degrees, but we
do have some showers around during the morning hours in the afternoon.
Looks mostly cloudy, mostly dry.
Additional rainfall isn't going to be nearly what we saw.
I mean, we had a record over two inches of rain in Boston yesterday,
but some areas getting four inches upwards.
Today we're looking at about a tenth
to maybe a third of an inch of rain.
It is low impact, especially the stuff that we get later in the day.
So high temperatures today along
with our mostly dry conditions in the afternoon
will probably sit in the upper 50s, lower 60s.
Tomorrow a couple degrees cooler,
but you can see we're starting to dry out
and very slowly clear out as well.
So weather pattern this morning, we've got our morning showers
because we've still got this nearby front and low pressure.
As it pulls away this afternoon, we have the opportunity to dry out.
The reason I say it like that,
It's because it's still going to be mostly cloudy.
There could be a spot sprinkle or an isolated shower around.
But the chance is really going to go up again during the evening
and overnight as this disturbance goes through.
You can see by 10 p.m. we've got showers back,
maybe even a little graupel,
which is like soft,
squishy hail that you get when cold air starts moving in.
And this only goes through early tomorrow morning.
And then you're going to see tomorrow.
We very slowly clear out from west
to east as some cooler air moves on in.
Chance for rain is going to be much lower tomorrow,
though I do expect there will be a couple
of showers before about 8 a.m.
On Monday afternoon, there could be a spot shower in the afternoon.
Doesn't look like a big deal,
but we've got to put Friday on your radar.
We're talking about next Friday because all of our tools.
Indicate a storm with rain and wind at the coastline and the potential,
the potential for a wintry mix north and west, mostly north
and west of 495. Now that doesn't mean we're absolutely going
to see our first measurable snow.
The potential is there. You should know about it.
It's my job to keep you safe and informed. So there you go.
Current track looks like this, which would have rain across eastern
and southeastern mass and again, north and west of 495. The potential.
For some mixing in some minor accumulation,
sometimes this time of the year it's too warm for it to stick.
So we'll have to see how this plays out.
There's a lot of different ways this could run.
If it tracks a little further inland,
it would be a warmer track with more rain.
A more distant track would pull more cool air
in and give us a better chance for either snow or mixing,
but also the potential for more of a mess.
So we're going to want to keep an eye on it very closely.
I'm not certain enough to put an alert on Friday's forecast yet,
but you bet we're going to be watching it closely. Seven day forecast.
Again, always in view, has some lingering showers today and tonight,
tomorrow slow clearing, Monday little pop-up shower in the afternoon,
and then partly sunny with highs
in the 50s through the middle of the week.
