As Brevard County recovers from historic flooding,
others are now worried about that water running into lakes and rivers.
Officials in Sanford are keeping a close eye
on Lake Monroe as water levels still rise.
Alexis Clevenger has more.
We can see those water levels rise above six feet,
which is creating concern for flooding right in this area.
I've got my tape measure here and I want to give you an idea
of what the water levels look like here in Lake Monroe.
It's kind of hard to see because it's so dark,
but I'm going to take my tape measure and let's see.
It is measuring about 20 inches below the seawall.
Andrew Campbell is no stranger to floodwaters.
When Ian was here, it basically covered everything,
including where you're standing now, it was covered by water.
His backyard is Lake Monroe,
where water levels are now higher than normal.
That's after heavy rainfall throughout the week.
Sanford officials say
the lake's water level measured 4.8 feet on Monday.
Now it's up to 5.22 feet.
And as those levels continue to climb, so does the risk for flooding.
We could have levels 6.8.
Something like that. Yes. And then it starts worrying me.
We're getting back to when we had Ian.
We had a lot of water in the roads. We had to set up tiger dams.
But it's not just at Lake Monroe.
Video from our Skyfox drone shows the water over at Lake Harney
flowing up the boat ramp and getting close to the parking lot.
Now, back here in Sanford, the fire chief says they
are watching everything closely.
We'd be setting up the tiger dam like we did
on Palmetto Ave going out there, Marine Isle.
We would set that up usually around that 6.4, 6.5 mark.
We'll be really watching it where we'll
be getting like one inch of water on Palmetto itself.
We also have to work with HCA.
I mean, HCA is another partner of ours.
We've got to watch flooding over there, too.
For now, Campbell is hopeful the water stops short of his property.
I don't anticipate it'll be that bad.
You know, I'm thinking maybe they'll come over to Seawall
and my lawn is probably done.
And if you need sandbags,
there are two spots here in Seminole
County that you can pick those up at.
One is at the old Geneva Volunteer
Fire Station and the other is
at the Boomba Sports Complex in
Sanford, Alexis Clevenger, Fox 35 news.
