Tonight, a developing story now, a closer look at the warning signs
hours before the deadly Citibank shooting this week in the Tampa area.
From the initial threat to the communication chain,
we're digging deeper into that response that happened that day.
Marie Ettinger joining us live in the Alert Center now.
So, Marie, you've been trying
to learn more about the suspected shooter.
Getting information about Jacob Pearson has been extremely difficult,
but I did get some
insight as to why that is.
I reached out to both of his parents with no response, his wife too.
I was able to talk with his middle school girlfriend over
the phone. She didn't want
to do an informal interview
because she isn't kept up with Pearson. She just knew him as a
child, but she told me he didn't have many friends.
He was always odd. When I told her
what happened at Citibank,
she said the story itself was sad and shocking.
In the hours and days since the attack on Citibank,
the timeline for everything that
happened that day is becoming clearer.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says
this was all about a court summons Jacob Pearson received,
saying he owed $2,500 on a Best Buy Visa
credit card. Citibank filed that complaint October 23rd,
and court records show a summons was served
to Pearson's wife on the 29th.
About a week later, this past Wednesday, Pearson called the attorney
on that complaint. Unless you want me to go over there with my AR-15.
My bulletproof vest and my insanity, you MF and cancel this court case.
That attorney contacted security at Citibank,
who asked Orlando police to go to Pearson's house and check on him.
His wife told police Pearson had already left.
He didn't say where he was going,
just he appeared to be angry, got in his car and left.
Orlando police called Citibank security to let them know.
So that guard called the Hillsborough
County Sheriff's Office just before noon.
So a supervisor and a deputy sheriff.
Within minutes, arrive on scene on campus.
At 12.10, Pearson came crashing through
the gates at Citibank with murder on his mind.
Employees hadn't been evacuated, and he was able to kill Leanne
Selman before deputies arrived one minute later at 12.11.
The vice president of Citibank, who's also an armed guard,
John Fraley, shot Pearson down.
Deputies started administering aid at 12.16.
He was pronounced dead at 1.12 p.m.
The Department of Juvenile Justice in Tallahassee confirmed Pearson
was an employee there until June of 2025.
They wouldn't answer when I asked what
his position there was or why he stopped working there.
