But first, tonight we continue our coverage
of the devastating flooding in North Georgia.
We've now learned one person has died
and another is injured as a result of those floods.
Thank you for joining us tonight at 6. I'm Russ Spence.
I'm Courtney Bryant. We have team coverage tonight,
starting with Fox 5's Larry Spruill,
who is in McCaysville with a look at the cleanup.
But we actually want to get out to Tara Jabbour first.
She has the latest updates on the flooding from state officials. Tara?
That's right. Director Josh, Director Josh Lamb says he went
to North Georgia yesterday to see the results of that flooding there.
We learned this afternoon that one person died
because of that flooding in North Georgia just earlier this week.
Now, Director Lamb says in Murray County,
a car was swept away by the flooding and that driver died.
So far, there have been about 100 rescues reported during the flooding.
Director Lamb says one of the things the state has
been helping with is debris cleanup.
He says the state is helping remove debris to clear state
and local roads and restore access to those roads.
Now he says several volunteer and non-profit organizations
are helping people with essential supplies like food and water.
Director Lamb says there are more resources available
to people like food cleanup kits, infant care supplies,
and household necessities as needed.
Here are some of the resources Director Lamb says
the state has sent so far.
We help coordinate the swift water rescue teams.
We've helped coordinate the Department
of Transportation that's up there cleaning.
DPS who come in and had overflight, the TFRs put in place.
We had a drone mitigation team that was from DPS.
Yes.
So all those state agencies, including DNR,
DNR was there with their boats
and anything from chainsaw teams to any other need that may come
that we can provide either through state resources or other,
even that be private.
Now we did just learn the name of that victim.
They say her name was Julie Bars
and that she was 56 years old from LJ.
Reporting live in Atlanta, Tara Jabbour, Fox 5 News.
Sorry to hear it, Tara.
