Republicans redrew this Texas district to win - it narrowly worked

In a sea of Democratic wins,
one district in Texas actually did the opposite.
A Republican flipped a blue seat red,
but this victory wasn't exactly random.
District 32 used to be a Dallas-based district,
and it was a Democratic-leaning district,
but it was radically reconfigured in the 2025 redistricting.
So basically, Republicans redrew the boundaries
on the map to stretch from the suburbs of Dallas
into East rural Texas,
which brought in a whole lot more Republican voters.
But even with that advantage,
Republican Jace Yarborough still faced a surprisingly close race.
He only won by around three points for an area
that elected President Donald Trump by
around 18 points back in 2024.
I talked to a political scientist here at Southern
Methodist University in Dallas,
and he said part of what also helped Yarborough was shifting his
political messaging. And so he did talk a lot about lowering prices.
He did talk a lot about
About things that were of
concern more to voters in the center of the electorate
and I think that was a good strategy.
And then in Rockwall County, which is one
of the more conservative Republican parts of that
district, I met a lady who is a business owner
and she said that those are the exact priorities that
matter to her community. It comes down to family, kids.
Can we provide for kids? Is it cost-effective
to raise our families here and is our kids safe?
So Republicans got the seat that they wanted,
but the fact that they came this close
to losing it shows just how much ground Democrats really
season, even in Texas.
