U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed to back the AI sector,
saying he's going to work with states that,
quote, want to become rich with the tech.
Our White House correspondent,
Kimberly Halkett, is joining us live now.
You should remember, of course,
Donald Trump has also been backed by tech giants
who support and develop research and development into AI.
He now seems determined that AI is the way forward.
That's right. The president doubling down on his support for AI
or what he rebranded as
super intelligence.
That's the name he's given it as of back in late September. In fact,
the U.S. president is tweeting about this or posting
on his True Social platform. What he said
As president, I am 100% in favor of super intelligence,
SI, and will work with the many states
in the U.S. that want to become rich by having them.
They are gold, and only foolish leadership will say
no to the riches they bring.
This is from President Donald J. Trump.
Now, again, why is the U.S. president posting this now?
It has a lot to do with that tech sell-off
that took place on Thursday that you mentioned,
the S&P 500, the NASDAQ,
both down substantially because of concerns of the shift in political
headwinds and the lack of support.
That could be coming from state governments moving forward,
given the fact that the congressional
election showed that Americans are squarely concerned
in very high numbers all across
the United States about having data centers in their neighborhoods.
In fact, 72 percent opposing it.
58% of those are from the president's own Republican Party.
So the concern from taxpayers is that they'll be stuck with the bill
for these huge facilities where all of this AI data is stored.
For example, that they could be paying
the high electricity costs, the water costs.
And then there is the concern about the environmental impact.
So what we have with this post and the president saying that he has not
shifted his position despite the overwhelming message from
Thank you
very much
indeed.
