Good morning to both of you. We are walking up and down the line.
I'm trying to find some folks to talk to. Some aren't quite awake yet.
Some told me they called out sick out of work today,
so they don't want to be on camera either.
Hey, guys, what about channel two?
Is there anyone we can talk to about being in line today?
Try again. Anyone we can talk to about being in line?
All right, we got a lot of shy birds out here today, but...
Here is the idea that we have been learning from, from some
of the folks that we have been able to just kind of chit-chat with.
Today is a big day for anyone who is super,
super big fan of the Pokemon trading card game.
Of course, we know this year is the 30th year anniversary
of the game's creation, but also this month in particular.
It's an even bigger deal because there
are several exclusive products that are coming
out on sale this morning,
and some of those releases have slowly been rolling out over
the last few weeks.
Today, six different limited edition bundles go on sale,
and it's all part of that same
trading card game.
There are some collectible items ranging
in price from about $30 to $70, whereas the big
bundles of actual playing cards,
that can cost up to $200, and all of that is in limited
availability.
So it's all expected to be sold out pretty quickly,
which is why some of these folks
have been here since late last night,
putting chairs down, putting some tents down.
Even if I bring you out here live again,
there's a guy with a cart of snacks, he's
selling out snacks to some of the people who are bracing the cold.
I see gloves worn, I see the hoodies,
I see blankets, I see people very much bundled up
to go get the bundles that are going to be on sale.
All right, I am going to try to walk down this very,
very long line and from the start
of the door, it goes around the corner of the building,
goes down for quite a bit here.
I'm going to try to see who isn't too shy to talk,
who is not supposed to be somewhere
else and available to talk.
Andre, Pam, give me a moment to try to figure that out.
A lot of these folks here,
they weren't here about 15 minutes ago because they were still
asleep, maybe even just staying warm in their cars too.
Do you guys want to talk?
Can I talk to you?
In Valkyrie's jacket, first off, nice hoodie.
I went to Game 7. It was great.
Oh, was it awesome?
What's your name, man?
Henry.
Henry.
Why are you out here this morning?
I just want to get some Pokemon cards.
I've been waiting to get back into the hobby for a long time.
And it's just, I mean, it's crazy out here because you get up.
I got here at 9 p.m.
9 p.m. last night.
9 p.m. last night.
And, you know, I just got off of school and I came here.
And it's a crazy time to be in the Pokemon hobby just
because they release so much cool stuff.
But it just feels like there's a so restricted quantity where
not everyone can get what they want.
Well, you can get Pokemon cards any day at any store.
What is the big deal about today for people
who don't understand this world?
I mean, it comes down to a lot of people wanting
to get stuff at cheaper prices,
especially with how the economy is going.
But it's just a little bit of a community as well.
People out here are really respectful a lot of the time.
They let you use their seats.
They buy you food for you.
A lot of people just want to create a community.
I love Pokemon card lovers, and I feel like that's a good general
state, as well as the prices being a lot lower than other stores.
For the Pokemon card lovers,
what is it that you're getting today that you don't get any other time?
They're releasing official what's called the Pokemon Center.
I mean, the 30th Celebrations UPC,
which is like this big new thing that they're just releasing today,
is releasing at Best Buy and Target today as well, so officially.
And they've been releasing a bunch
of these in kind of different times, right?
Did a big release in September, another one
in October, there's another one next Friday.
Yeah, it's very scattered.
This drop is supposedly lower than the other drop,
so you kind of don't know.
You kind of just show up and you kind of hope.
That's what a lot of people here did, I think.
They showed up and you're basically hoping that you get the cards.
How much money are you willing to spend today?
I mean, I don't know if I want to say that in front of my parents,
but if I could spend $300 and get everything I want, that'd be great.
Tell me your first and last name again.
Henry Jaffe.
And where are you coming from?
Moraga, California.
Moraga.
Henry, thanks a lot, man.
Thanks a lot for taking the time.
Since 9 p.m. last night here, and he's about halfway through the line,
so I can only imagine what the guys up front had
to do to make sure they had their spot.
We will be checking in with the folks who are in line here today.
We will keep bringing you the stories
for why this Pokemon release is so special.
Pam and Andre, I'll send it back to you.
All right, we'll take it.
Thank you so much.
Appreciate it.
Time now is 7.07.
