Tonight, Dearborn dealing with a tragic accident.
A 16-year-old killed after crashing into a tree.
And Fox 2's Ingrid Kelly joining us live with the very latest.
That's right.
Well, hey, Amy, you know, this incident is still under investigation,
but witnesses say that vehicle was going at a high rate of speed
and somehow that teen driver lost control of the vehicle.
If you take a look right here, you can see the tire marks
and then that vehicle actually hit this tree.
I mean, you can only imagine that impact.
A person nearby heard a loud boom and ran to help the teen.
Now that good Samaritan does not want to be identified, but says
Speeding is an issue in this area.
The car was pretty well wrapped around the tree.
I looked in.
The driver was laid across both feet
and was not responsive to either voice or knocking on the window.
In this area, we have a lot of people who drive far too fast.
It's been a problem for us in the neighborhood,
and this is the unfortunate result.
Of things like that, people driving in excess of their capabilities
and it's just foolish to not wear a seat belt.
Yeah, back out here live. I was able to speak to the superintendent
and he cannot identify this student,
but he tells me that he was a junior and he also says there
are a number of resources available for the school community.
We're just heartbroken over this incident.
Yeah.
Well liked, well loved, it's going to be greatly missed.
A lot of staff and students over
at the high school today are obviously a pretty tough
day for not just his teachers but his friends, he had a lot of friends.
So our main goal as a district is to support the staff
and the students, we've also reached
Reached out to the family and offered support as well.
Back out here live the impact of that crash
was very significant as you can see it actually
destroyed knocked down and destroyed this signage right here
so just before five o'clock a crew DPW
crew came out and they put up
this caution tape they want people to avoid this area
right here and they say
a new sign will go up tomorrow. Back to you Amy.
Ingrid, just tragic.
You just feel for the family,
you feel for the school community, the officers on site.
I'm sure they're having counselors,
additional counselors at the schools for the kids.
Absolutely. A number of resources for the students,
staff, and this is a K through 12 issue
because according to the superintendent, you know,
some people in younger grades may have ties to this student.
And so therefore they're looking after the entire community
and also the victim's family.
And of course, our hearts and prayers go out to that family as well.
All right. Thank you so much. Ingrid Kelly. Appreciate you.
