Sean Payton on Carolina QB Bryce Young's Development, Play of Rookie RB Jonah Coleman
Nov 5, 2026
Sean, what do you think of the evolution of Bryce Young
and where he is now and like him coming up?
Yeah, listen, you've definitely seen his ascension
and he's very comfortable with what they're doing.
It's an explosive team.
I think they're seventh or eighth in explosives.
They do a great job mixing the play action, the RPO game.
They've drafted well.
And so all those numbers are different today
Some people, maybe I, think that running back
as a rookie is one position where you can jump right in,
but I know pass pro is so important to you. With Jonah missing time,
what has impressed you the most about how he's doing?
Well, we had those glimpses in the spring and in training camp
and in the preseason. Atlanta, there's a run. It just stood out to you.
And so the one thing that was unique about him.
Is oftentimes you don't get to see them in third down protection plans,
but he was someone that we had quite a bit of tape on,
you know, advanced protection plans and he's built,
you know, to handle the blitz.
And it's one thing to know who I have,
but then also to be strong enough to do it.
To build the trust.
Yeah. Yeah. And I would say that there were three backs.
We just saw one of them that we really had visions for,
and each one maybe a little differently,
but his versatility, to your point,
that doesn't always, like, you don't get to stamp that
with a lot of rookie backs that you feel like,
hey, you feel like they're going to develop into,
but we saw enough that we felt like, you know,
he was going to be a good third down protecting back as well
with the way he was built.
