Members of the band The Iron Roses give a detailed tour of their tour van while promoting their new album, *Molotov Nights*. They share the practicalities of life on the road, including their driving dynamics, snack preferences, personal comfort essentials, and the challenges of budgeting for travel and lodging.
The family gold bonds.
Sponsor us.
And this is my omeprazole.
So that I don't have heartburn.
Burn.
I'm
Natasha.
And I'm Becky.
And we are from The Iron Roses.
We have a new album out called Molotov Nights.
And we are currently on tour in this.
To play those songs across the world.
Oh God.
The bright guitar god who
also happens to be the safest driver in the van.
The only one we trust.
That's true.
Yeah.
And the best trailer backer-upper ever.
This is true.
He can park on a dime.
Oh, absolutely.
Yes.
Yeah.
So, I like driving.
It's the most comfortable seat.
It also keeps me off my phone for hours on end,
which is the only time I'm off my phone.
I'm not sure about it.
Co-captain has to be not on Bluetooth, not on sleeping.
Has to be someone that,
when I point out signs, they have to react to them.
And if you don't, I feel betrayed.
Yeah.
Also someone to help navigate.
If there's a change in the route and someone needs to get
Get drumsticks or go to the bathroom, they'll be like,
Instead of me playing with the phone, they'll say,
hey, take the next exit, or text me an address,
I can just click, and it'll reroute.
Drive-by Truckers.
I exclusively listen to Drive-by Truckers
with Jason Isbell when I drive the van.
It's true.
I now know almost every lyric to every Drive-by Truckers album
that I have never known before in my life.
I had never heard them before,
and now I know every ******* song.
It's become my comfort sound when I drive.
On this tour, it's been Devin.
Yeah.
Devin a lot, trade driving duties.
We also, so when Devin sits up here,
We tend to stray from the Americana to the hair metal.
Yeah, Kevin's a big hair metal lover.
If we need a change of taste, I also love hair metal, so.
Yeah.
So this is our seat, this is our bench,
this is where we are all the time.
One of those reasons is because?
Because I get car sick, and if I'm not driving,
being in this seat,
It makes my brain still think I'm driving.
It's the same view so I don't get car sick.
But also this is like a good meeting spot.
I have this workout.
Everything I need is right here.
This is not the most comfortable spot,
but it is the closest spot to the snack bag.
We have plenty of water flavorings because water is boring,
but you have to drink it.
You have to.
Peanut butter filled pretzels have been our crack on this one.
Peanut butter plays a big role in our touring.
And we would like sponsored by this.
Yes.
We have a nerd's deficiency.
So we have to eat these from time to time as supplements.
It's, uh...
But yeah, everything peanut butter goes on everything.
So yeah, we right now have our bandmates on the six bandmates
and our our Chelsea, who is our travel photographer and videographer.
And sometimes we just can't hear any more things.
So we don't watch TV just because we like to.
Decompress a bit when we're in the van.
Also, it'd be very annoying for the driver
if we're watching a show and they have to...
Like, do you want to see anything?
Also, we have business class.
Yeah, we have some people that work from the road, so yeah.
This is where...
Yeah, I needed a snack. They were there.
They were there.
This is my little Spritz Sprite.
So I don't smell like ----.
It's vanilla and cashmere.
It's a delight.
But this is usually where my glasses and my phone go.
And this is my water, and this is my omeprazole.
So that I don't have heartburn.
I have really bad acid reflux,
and if I don't take this every day, I die.
A little bit inside.
Yeah.
Mine is also very specific and scaled down.
I don't like clutter, but I am a woman over 45 and I get hot,
so I need my own fan.
I need this because I, again, can't hear.
I can only hear so many things before I start to melt down.
Ginger juice, because tummy aches, and my stuffy, because I...
Oh yeah, stuffies.
Stuffy, weighted blanket for a panic attack,
and then a cooling blanket.
Yeah, very important.
Probably nothing we wanted to show.
You mean that body under there?
Do you see that?
Don't don't look don't look
If you follow the floor, there's a trail of Olivier's guitar picks.
Yes. Look right now on the floor
Or do you want to see some art pics?
Guaranteed there's some guitars picks back there
that belong to our other guitarist Olivia
Yes, and probably some sweaty socks.
Yeah
But that's where Kate and Olivier set up their,
our bass player and other guitarists,
set up their workstations because they work from the road.
This is Kate's area. That's Olivia's area back there.
And they just set up their computers
on the road. They have sort of like
a whole thing with silencing headphones,
noise cancelling headphones, and Olivia has these glasses.
they're like they're like computer screens yeah
yeah what oh yeah here's the plug that runs to the
generator that we plug everything
into because otherwise it'd get really annoying something
really important
that every touring band like gold bonds
sponsor us please we don't want to
smell each other's feet this is very important
so we rent this van from our friend sean uh vandem
M&M LLC in Baltimore.
Right now in the back of this thing we have a lot of dirty clothes
because we are halfway
through our tour right now and we have some of our merch.
We like our merch station to be extra.
We don't want it to look like anybody else's.
We have a lot of glitter, a lot of glam,
a lot of glitz. Also we are, like I said,
a touring party of seven and we only get one
hotel room a night.
So we sleep air mattresses, we've got a couple of those, pillows.
We jam it all in there because we aren't getting paid enough
for two hotel rooms yet.
Someday, someday, but not today.
Look, the aforementioned dirty socks.
They're not crunchy so that's good.
Here's my, here's my hoodie that picked up some mold smell
from a hotel that we had and
I cannot wear it right now.
Here's the bleach we never did.
Oh yeah, look at my hair.
We never did it.
It looks terrible.
so in here is anything that we will want to wear to show
or we will want to grab
quick when we go to the hotel um especially
because when you're a touring band you don't
want to open that and show what's in it a lot
when you're in weird spaces so we try to keep that shut
um when we go to a hotel we don't want
to open that Pedro always back it up
against the wall or something
so in here it's just stuff that's like easy grabs for
Stumbling into a hotel room or a green room.
Yeah.
And the beds.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
We're on beds.
Yeah.
Thanks for coming to check out the van.
We're the Iron Roses.
And our van doesn't stink.
And if you would like, you should check out our new album,
Molotov Nights, and check out
any of our social media pages, Instagram,
Facebook, your parents can check us out on
Facebook.
Not Instagram, because we're too old for that ----.
No, TikTok.
TikTok.
Instagram, yes.
Oh, there's a B.
Oh, hi B. And then from there,
you can just check us out on Bands in Town, wherever, to
see where we'll be playing in your town.
Yes, if you go on Bandsintown and you request us to come to your city,
and your friends do also, maybe we will.
Yep.
