A member of the band Chat Pile gives a tour of the \"Swagoneers\"—two rented Jeep Wagoneers used to transport the band and their gear during their current run of shows. He describes the chaotic nature of life on the road, the band's peculiar music tastes during travel, and their logistical approach to touring before their official van tour begins in Denver.
I think everybody should read.
I hope y'all are reading. Anyone out there watching?
It's usually lots of like psychological warfare
that's going on, music-wise.
Alright,
this is the
car we're
traveling
in right
now, this
Wagoneer.
Typically, we're not driving.
It's our tour manager, Paul, who does everything.
But yeah, we're in this van for two days, and then, you know, it's...
It's kind of bare bones right now, so yeah.
Today we've been listening to Harder Rock and Roll
by Huey Lewis and the News,
and I think we listened to Honky Tonk Badonkadonk
on the way here.
It's usually lots of like psychological warfare
that's going on music-wise in the van.
It's not as much right now
because we've kind of been also listening to some,
we listened to two Tool records yesterday on the way in,
but usually when we're all together, it's just,
It's music that we can torment each other
with as a way to keep it fun, basically.
I'm usually, again, we're usually in a normal van,
so this is very funny to me that we're
doing this on a day in which we're
in these two weird Jeep Wagoneers that we will be,
this is the last day we're even using
these and getting into our normal van tomorrow,
which is usually then turns into like a nest of merch
and our personal belongings and stuff.
And it's, it's usually, uh...
Austin, or Stan, our bassist,
who is like kind of the co-pilot usually in the normal scenario, but
usually in charge of just navigating and stuff like that.
Here it is, the backseat. We have our two things of La Croix here.
We have some more water back there, a wet shirt from the other day.
My Gatorade from earlier, and you know,
this is how we do it in Chatfile.
Lots of water, you know, staying hydrated in the backseat, you know?
Hydration is key.
Yeah, hydration is key.
We usually listen to music in the van.
I don't have it with me, it's in our dressing room,
but I have like a little handheld game thing
that I've been playing some Sega Dreamcast games
on the past couple days.
But, uh...
Yeah, it's usually just like,
it's a lot of talking and, you know, just...
You know, joking around and then, again,
trying to listen to music that kind of torments each other.
And, you know, positive, torment, positive.
It's very positive.
But, yeah, that's usually it.
Yeah, reading.
I can never sleep like in vehicles like on planes
or cars or anything like that so it's really hard
for me to get any sleep it's like I'll start to hit it
and it's like I jolt awake like I'm in
trouble in class or something for some reason I don't know why
my body does that but so yeah lots
of just like sitting here and zoning out
when we're on the road for like seven hours to get
to the next city or whatever.
There's the trunk we got a single pelican case of course we've got two
Wet t-shirts that I have worn, the past couple,
they're soaking wet still, very gross.
Yeah, some whiskey and coffee that was from a previous show
that is just living in a bag now.
Oh, you can't forget the Ricolos.
Which we're all addicted to.
I do.
Coconut water, sparkling water, vegetable plate,
hummus and salsa, stuff like that.
Just like kind of snacky stuff.
Nothing too crazy, you know, just yeah
yeah of course yeah yeah I don't hate
M&M's completely literally
like boom what's up y'all
welcome to the true Swagoneer, Swagoneer 2,
white edition with the Idaho plate
sequels better than the original that's right
We played Minneapolis and these shows in Chicago
but technically our tour really starts in Denver.
So me and our tour tour manager Paul caravaned two vans
from Oklahoma City to Denver with all
our gear in it. Then we flew
and met up with everybody in Minneapolis. We rented these two
Wagoneers so that we could fit our gear and some merch in them.
And then after Riot Fest
we're flying back to Denver and the true van tour begins.
But in the meantime,
We've got these cool...
Swagoneers.
Yeah.
This ain't no mall crawler, all right?
This is a real Jeep that we're driving, okay?
Yeah.
Yeah.
No dicks in this ************.
That's right.
Want to cruise on this?
Well,
Well, our sound guy, Mark,
has been kind of the one driving and controlling the auxiliary
cable.
I've got to tell you, it whiplashes between some decent stuff
to some of the worst music
I've ever heard in my life.
Slava Hoochie is a standout.
I'm not recommending it.
No, but it did come up.
There's been some pornographic rap music
and a few other bad songs as well.
What's up? This is my seat here.
I got my shorts and a sack because they stink.
You know, I got my charger here.
I got my microphone.
I got my book.
I got Streets of Laredo by Larry McMurtry.
Enjoying the hell out of it right now.
I got my collection of cups and bottles here.
Pretty swagged out, honestly.
You know, I'm reading this book, Streets of Laredo.
I think everybody should read.
I hope y'all are reading.
Anyone out there watching,
Reagan Bush says, read a book.
Otherwise though we're usually curating,
actually Mark has sort of beat us to
the punch because we're usually trying
to gross each other out with the worst
possible music we can in the van so that's kind of a pastime but yeah
reading books is kind of a big part of our our pastime.
Here's all of our shirts
and things which we don't have many left
in fact we have to find a way to ship
this stuff back home.
But yeah, we're in the more gear heavy wagon here right now,
we've got the Pelican case
with our amps in it.
Guitars, of course, and some drum breakables.
So this is the first time ever in Chapelle history
that we have rented two vans,
and one will be just for passengers,
and then the other one's gonna be filled,
or is filled, to the ceiling with gear and merch
and that kind of stuff.
So we're against trailers, they're too easy to steal,
and trying to drive those around in a big city
or whatever could be a pain in the ass.
So hopefully two vans fixes that problem.
