The 2026 midterm election shocking the nation
as Texas turned blue for the first time in decades.
What we're seeing is for the first time the Latino vote came out.
According to the League of United Latin American Citizens in Texas,
900,000 Latinos voted in the last midterm election.
But this election cycle,
those numbers almost doubled with 1,600,000 Latinos voting.
We are literally the majority,
and I think our Latino population needs to understand that,
that we do make a difference,
and we need to make sure that education matters.
Texas also saw Latino-leading counties
that voted red in previous elections
flip blue, voting for Hinojosa and Talarico.
Do you think it was just more Latino voters?
Do you think it was Latino voters switching
from Republican to Democrat?
What do you think it was that made this switch happen?
Yeah, I think it was all of the above.
I think voters, regardless of who you voted for in 24,
or even before then in 22, voters,
Latino voters, what they care about most.
Emmanuel Leal Santillan with Somos Votantes tells me his organization
went door to door and spoke with close to 97,000 people,
where voters told them their main struggles were cost of living,
gas, food prices, health care, and fear in their communities,
which is where the desire for a change continued to grow.
And so candidates like.
Gina Hinojosa, James Talarico, and House candidates like Bobby Pulido,
Johnny Garcia, and others were very successful in tapping
into that anger, but also were very successful in transforming
that anger into the belief that something better is possible.
As for what's next for the state,
LULAC wants to hold our newly elected leaders accountable.
The Democratic Party and its elected officials
are going to have to deliver
to the working class families of Texas and Tejanos.
They have to make sure that everything is affordable.
