But we start tonight with the forecast.
Some communities in North Georgia
are dealing with strong storms tonight.
The Stephens County Sheriff's Office says one
of them brought down trees on Old Clarksville Road.
No word yet when that road might be reopened.
Good evening. Thank you for joining us tonight.
And we'll start with the weather. It's been a
really wet day all throughout the day. Right.
And the storms got even worse tonight, Jonathan.
And we're still looking at that threat increasing
as we go through the overnight hours. Just because
you haven't felt rain over the past six hours period doesn't mean
that there's not more to come.
Look at this line. It's a thin line, but it's packing up punches.
It crosses over the Alabama
Georgia state line. But all of the attention right now
in terms of where that rainfall is
It's just a bit too much across north central Georgia,
where we have active flood alerts.
In fact, in fact, this large polygon here that you see is a flash
flood warning and that goes until three o'clock in the morning.
That's three a.m. Thursday morning and that includes parts
of Murray County along with pretty much all of Fannin County,
Gilmer County and it stretches as far to the east as the northernmost
portions of Towns County and then right here smack dab
in the middle you have a flash flood warning but we up the ante
and we call that a considerable warning when we consider just how much
Much rain has already fallen
and how much the ground can possibly take with what is
left on radar.
You can see here, based on radar indications,
nearly 5 inches of rain in and along the Gilmer-Fannin
County line.
Most of this all occurring within the past three hours.
That particular flood warning going until 12:30 in the morning.
All eyes on this area as you could have anywhere between an inch.
To an inch and a half of rainfall
that can fall over the next hour
period of time. We're already getting
some indications that there could
possibly be flooded out roads
into the long 76 here.
Make your way up Blue Ridge Drive.
You're likely dealing with some flooding there
or at least some extreme ponding on the roadways.
Slow down if you're out and about tonight
and first thing tomorrow morning.
But just because our attention has been focused
across north central Georgia, that does not mean
that the metro or the south side
East will sleep easy tonight.
I'm tracking the threat through
the overnight hours in my complete forecast.
All right, Jonathan, thanks.
Turning now.
