We begin tonight with You Decide on this midterm election day
and the results are
rolling in across the country.
This is the 10 o'clock news. I'm Sheba Russell.
Up first tonight, the race for Pennsylvania governor,
incumbent Democratic Governor Josh
Shapiro, projected as winning
his reelection over Republican challenger State Treasurer
Stacey Garrity. So with 57% of the estimated votes counted so far,
you can see Shapiro with
with the lead here, 69.
63 percent, rather, again, the projected winner.
All of our election results are based off
reporting from the Associated Press.
We've got you covered tonight for the big races in our area.
Chris O'Connell is in Bucks County.
Brittany Weir and Dylan Scott are up in the Lehigh Valley. But
we begin tonight with Shauntay Wilson
at Governor Josh Shapiro's election night watch party right
outside of Harrisburg. Shauntay,
this race was called for Shapiro just minutes after the polls
polls closed so quite early.
Yeah, about five after eight tonight, Sheba,
the race was called by the Associated Press.
And around 9:16 tonight, Governor Josh Shapiro took to the stage.
He spoke for about 20 minutes.
I mean, he came out to an electric crowd here cheering
that he has been reelected to a second term.
He started out by saying that he had received
a call from his opponent, Stacey Garrity,
and that she said, you know,
congratulations and that she was looking forward.
to working with him for the people of the Commonwealth.
He said that this is a good night for the Commonwealth,
as well as the fact that he says that voters tonight
have decided to take their voices back
and that they have decided
that they are gonna determine their future.
He called this a night of resolve and relief.
Saying that the voters want good schools for kids,
safe neighborhoods, jobs that pay them.
He got a laugh here saying that PA
is the swingiest swing state in the country.
Let's go ahead and pause and listen
to a bit of his victory speech tonight.
Thank you, Pennsylvania.
I could not be more humbled
and grateful for the opportunity
to keep serving our commonwealth.
Look, the results are still rolling in.
But the picture is starting to come into focus.
This is a good night for our commonwealth.
You kept the faith. You used your power.
You not only entrusted me with the opportunity
to continue to serve as your governor,
You did your part to help change the very trajectory of this country.
Pennsylvania, if we keep working
and keep fighting for what we believe in,
I promise you our best days are still out there in front of us.
That's the spirit that over the past four years
that's helped us take on the big fights.
I don't know if we lost it or if you could hear me,
but so the governor went on to say
that he will be right to work tomorrow,
working on some of those key things that he's been
talking about, talking about raising minimum wage to $15 an hour,
making sure that abortion
rights are protected in the Commonwealth.
We're continuing to look at numbers coming in here.
And these cheers are kind of indicative of what I
was just going to say the governor said, Sheba.
He said that the way the night looks, he's going to have plenty of GSD,
we'll say get stuff done, Democrats to push his mission through.
Yeah, get stuff done.
He said that many times on the campaign trail.
It caught me off guard quickly when I first heard him say it,
Sean, because I was like, what does that mean?
So now we do know.
And he has won a second term.
All right, Seanette, thank you.
Yeah, we're substituting the S there, yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Yes.
Yes, indeed.
