Election Day: Polling location wait times

Voters showed up in record numbers for early voting, shattering records across the state. And local officials are saying they expect more record turnout today. Fox 7 Austin's Cliff Thornton joins us live from the Gus Garcia Recreation Center in Travis County. Cliff, how's it looking out there? Yeah, Amanda, as you alluded to just a moment ago, the turnout for this midterm election, if you haven't seen the numbers, roughly half of all registered voters in Williamson County, Travis County, and Hays County have already voted in this midterm election cycle. But as you mentioned, today is election day. There is still time to vote. We've stopped by a handful of polling places this morning. Stopped at Williamson County Round Rock Jester Annex on Old Settlers Boulevard just east of 35. Pretty good time there, about 20 to 25-minute wait, getting in and out to vote. Then made our way down to East Austin, the Harris Branch neighborhood, Fire Station 41. Wait time there to get in and out was even less, right around 10 minutes. We are now at Gus Garcia Community Center. That's what you're seeing pictures of right now. Northeast Austin, we'll call it, here just off of East Rundberg Lane. Wait times here a little bit longer, about 45 to 50 minutes. But overall, things going pretty smoothly, at least at the locations that we visited this morning. Turnout for this midterm cycle is, of course, being spearheaded by two big-time state races, one for the U.S. Senate between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico. And, oh, yeah, Texas is electing a governor today, too. Long-time incumbent, the Republican Greg Abbott. being challenged by Democrat Gina Enosa. There is still time to vote. Polling place is closed at 7 o'clock. Now remember, that means you just have to be in line at your designated polling location by 7 o'clock. You don't have to be finished. You don't even have to be in the building. You just have to be in line by 7. Time's taken, Amanda.
