It will be a rush at the polls across the nation.
Huge midterm here.
Fox News national correspondent Rebecca Castor
is on Capitol Hill this morning.
Rebecca, Democrats seem poll-wise
to be well-positioned to win the House tonight.
The Senate, though, seems to be kind of a toss-up at this point.
What states are the ones to watch?
Thank you very much.
Hey, good morning, guys.
Yeah, tonight will likely come down to seven states that have
competitive races that could determine
the balance of power here in Washington.
For those taking notes, these are the ones to watch.
Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan,
South Carolina, and Texas.
Those are the seven battleground states. They're states that Trump
won in 2024. He won all of those besides Maine.
But a lot has changed in the last two years,
And tonight is going to be a major check.
on President Trump's policies, his economy,
and the unresolved war in Iran.
Historically, Rebecca, midterm elections,
as you said, are a judgment day
for the party in power. Typically, they do not do well.
President Trump's approval rating,
on top of that, the lowest it's ever been.
But he was very active on the campaign trail,
endorsing a whole lot of candidates despite that.
Tell us what he was doing last night.
Yes. So last night he was here in Washington.
He had a final message to voters across the country that he delivered
from the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool. But over the last month,
we've seen him hold more than 30 rallies across the country.
And the whole purpose of it was really to energize the MAGA base
and get them to turn out on Election Day,
even without President Trump on the ballot.
He's not, you know, shying away here. He's been out front
for this midterm season and he's really been trying to hammer home.
to voters some of the things he believes
his administration has done well
He's really hammered
right
back.
those MAGA voters are going to stay loyal to President Trump
and show up even when he's not on the ballot.
And should there be some kind of blue wave,
as many polls have predicted here, Rebecca,
how will this impact the end of President Trump's term?
Yeah, so he becomes what we call here
in Washington a lame duck president.
He has already said that he would become Mr. Veto
if Democrats win control in Congress.
He's already planning to veto a lot of those Democrat-backed bills.
He'll have to rely heavily on executive orders
to push through the rest of his agenda.
But of course, you know, that's
a tool we've seen him use time and time again.
It's helped him ramp up U.S. energy production.
That's how he's gotten the widespread tariffs passed.
And it's also how we shut down the border as well.
So that's a tool we'll definitely see President Trump have
to tap into more if Democrats perform well tonight.
Okay, Rebecca Castor,
thank you very much for that preview from inside the rotunda there.
