The president of the NAACP coming to Detroit,
hoping to get out the vote tomorrow.
Fox News' Amy Lang is live at Wayne State University.
And Amy, what did Derek Johnson have to say about Haley Stevens today?
Well, this is a nonpartisan organization, right?
The NAACP was about phone banking today.
They were making calls. They
were encouraging people to get out the vote. They say,
we're not here to tell people how to vote.
We want them to just make sure they exercise their
right to vote. However, we did ask Derek Johnson
what he thought about what happened. And he said
his concern was.
About the church, the black church being used in this way.
Using of the black community, the black church as a prop to make
a political statement, something that shouldn't be tolerated.
What I witnessed yesterday, and I was in Mississippi, I say
this is unbelievable that you would use a black church for such antics.
At the end of the day, I'm sure Michiganders as well as people across
the country, they're concerned with the price of gas.
They're concerned with the cost of things,
quality of life, and future aspirations,
and to use the black church and the black community as a...
A prop, which is just frustrating to see that.
So NAACP gathering here,
we had young people from Wayne State and elsewhere throughout the area,
and they were here to make phone calls.
They said they made about 300, really just shy of 300 phone
calls to really encourage black voters to exercise their right to vote.
They say their polling,
their conversations really have revealed
that people are very concerned about the economy.
That seems to be the number one issue.
And so they just want to make sure
that everybody gets out there.
As we know, we've got more than 2 million people who have
already voted, some absentee, some early voting,
and tomorrow is the last day for this. So
we've got people young and old ready to get to the polls.
18. First time voting. Yes. How's that feeling?
Nervous, but excited at the same time.
Whatever you want to do in life, you have to vote.
You know, that is our dream. That is what the American promise
that we are able to vote for a democracy.
We're teaching them that their vote counts.
And as they vote, they need to be telling their friends,
hey, you need to get out and vote.
You know, this is not a race this time
that you sit on the couch, you play games.
It's time for you to get out and go vote,
get your buddies out and go vote.
We want to ensure that we're able to push
an increase in black voter turnout.
We understand that Michigan voters are...
They're tired, they're exhausted.
We've seen the videos, people saying we need change currently.
So overall, this is the point, purpose of these conversations.
I think Michigan will decide whether
or not we're going to have a democracy.
And in this moment, it's important for every eligible voter to go
and ensure their voices are heard.
And that's what it's all about
as Election Day now just hours away.
For now, live in Detroit, I'm Amy Lang. Back to you.
