It's been quite a while since we've dealt
with at least a widespread threat of severe weather in
North Texas. In fact, the last time that we saw
a severe thunderstorm watch issued was way back on
July the 5th, so nearly four months ago.
I do expect a nearly solid line of storms to move
through here, generally from west to east across the area.
They will bring the potential of severe
weather with the primary threat being strong wind gusts.
Those storms, here's the good news, move
out early Tuesday morning, so it shouldn't have a big impact
on voting tomorrow, and then the rest of the week does look nice.
Now, let's discuss the timing here.
Now, this doesn't mean that all of the stormy weather will fall
in the times that you see here.
It's just I expect the bulk of the most active weather to be 7 o'clock
to 11 o'clock here in areas west of the I-35 corridor, 10 p.m. to 2
a.m. here for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and up and down I-35.
And then finally, 1am.
to 5am for areas east and southeast of the metroplex. Breaking it down here looking
at our severe weather threats again. You see that yellow
bar indicating the damaging wind gust threat 55 to 65 mile per
hour gusts in some of the strongest storms up
to half dollar size hail. Here
There's a potential we could see hail
a little larger than that in some of the first storms
back.
that develop off to the west of Dallas and Fort Worth.
But as this line consolidates as we head through this evening,
then the shift will be to wind gusts.
A couple brief tornadoes are possible.
Now, that threat is much lower,
but there is a lot of low-level turning of the winds here.
Those wind fields are fairly impressive, and so it's not out
of the question we could see a couple brief spin-ups.
We do need the rain.
deficit now for the year. It's topped five inches.
Currently, we've got mostly cloudy skies. It's very breezy.
South winds pumping up a lot of Gulf moisture.
Temperatures between 80
and 81 around the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area.
It's 80 at Meridian, 80 at Corsicana,
78 Bonham, and 77 at this hour in Bowie.
Do have some severe storms lurking off to our northwest.
These are on the west side of Wichita Falls.
They are heading northeastward.
They're packing wind gusts up to 60 and quarter-sized hail.
So I don't see these posing a severe weather threat for us.
But you can see the trend here.
Notice more storms now.
Starting to develop down towards southwest between Midland
and Abilene right now.
And eventually, I think we're going to see
a line of storms that will consolidate.
And move east and it's ahead of a cold front and a very strong upper
level low that's associated with strong winds in the upper atmosphere.
So let's time it out with Futurecast.
This is eight o'clock this evening.
There's the line of storms just starting to develop and notice how
it starts to fill in as we head towards 10 o'clock tonight here
with a threat of severe weather, especially for our western counties.
Then as we head closer to 11 o'clock tonight,
that's when areas especially
Western Denton County, Western Tarrant County,
Granbury, you'll see the potential of severe
weather. These will slowly move to the east.
That's midnight tonight, one o'clock in the
morning, just beginning, I think,
to clear eastern portions of the Metroplex. Two o'clock
in the morning, now that severe weather threat
is really impacting our eastern counties. That's
five o'clock in the morning.
They're already out towards Canton, Athens, and Fairfield. And then
And then by early tomorrow morning, I think, most of that story...
Stormy weather is gone.
Tomorrow should be a very breezy,
fall-like day with temperatures topping out in the 70s
and really quiet weather for the rest of the week.
And you'll see that here in the seven-day forecast.
Just a chance of storms very early tomorrow morning to our east.
The rest of the week looks very much like fall
with temperatures in the low to mid 70s.
