Blais and Sarault collect 500-metre silver and bronze medals at World Tour stop in Montreal
Nov 1, 2026
Beating Sandra Velsibor in the 500 meters has
been just about an impossibility for the rest of the world,
but hope springs eternal for four skaters against her on the line.
Velsibor, Blais, Brunel, Seurat, and Hwang.
Go to the start.
And it's another fantastic start for Danae Blais,
she's done it all day long, and this
time it's put Velzibor in an unfamiliar position, she has to chase.
We're not used to seeing this,
what a blazing start from Danae Blais, incredible.
Velzibor got down to third, came back to second.
Two laps to go here. Cassandra Belzebore looking
for the inside opportunity.
And she makes it stick.
Cassandra Belzebore now has three Canadian Ice Maples chasing her.
She is completely outnumbered.
But right now, in this distance, Belzebore is on another level.
It doesn't matter the situation.
We're not used to seeing Cassandra Belzebore
in third off a start in the 500-meter.
But it's not going to stop her.
The line. It was gut-check time.
And I think she responded just fine.
It is silver for Blais, bronze for Serrault,
fourth for Floros Brunel-Longuet in fifth.
It's about throwing everything they could at her,
but when you're feeling it, you're feeling it.
Sandra Velzabord just showing her versatility.
It doesn't just have to be the start.
She can respond with speed and passing.
Look at this, back in third here.
One lap at a time, chipping away at it.
Beautiful execution on both of her inside passes, done so cleanly.
She was third in the Crystal Globe coming into today.
Sarou will get a good chunk of points with another bronze medal,
but the gap will come down a little bit.
El Zabor in her distance, never mind that, in her element.
