Brenda Kirk-Carroll, here we go.
Listen, I have been in rinks around the world with these two,
and there have been hints that maybe they didn't
get everything they wanted out of their skates.
That wasn't the case last night.
A breakout season last year.
They are different people.
They are different skaters.
Athleticism and artistry personified.
And if they can duplicate the short program.
They might just win a Skate Canada title tonight.
Showing
the confidence
that Devon
was talking about.
Their triple twist up the different side
of the ice than most of the competitors.
Side by side
not working
for Trent
this evening.
Another one coming.
He's focused now.
Again he struggles.
He did rotate
and he did
not fall so...
We get something.
Yeah.
Beautiful choreographic
moment matching the partner.
That has to be different every time
depending on how she lands the jump.
I love how many intricate sort of little pieces
of business there are in between the elements.
Just subtle and well done and totally in keeping with the music.
Choreographed by ice dancers Madison Hubbell and Adrien Diaz.
Sophisticated.
And completely different from what we saw in the short the other day.
The Canadian champions, world bronze medalists,
Leah Pereira and Trent Michaud.
Was that enough to give them
the second Grand Prix victory of their careers?
So great to see them push themselves in different directions.
As we said, it's the start of another quad.
Now's the time to take chances,
and maybe you'll find something you never even thought about.
So exciting.
Maddie and Adrien.
Both ice dancers bringing a different perspective to a pair team.
Mm-hmm, for sure.
For sure.
Alison Perkis, coach.
Yeah, that's okay.
You just got to trust yourself in the law.
Yeah, I know.
You just got to trust yourself in the law.
How many times have we heard that one?
And it's true.
Beautiful twist.
Another example of recovery
from early mistakes to execute a good program.
He almost over-jumped it.
He almost worked too hard.
Alison is right. It's like, dude, you got good.
It's good.
It's good.
Leave it alone.
You just gotta trust it.
I think this is a big improvement for Leah.
She has struggled with the throw jumps in the past,
but she's been super solid.
Well, she's staying with it longer.
She used to break at the waist a little sooner.
She's like, OK, I got to protect this landing.
Now she's saying, I don't have to protect it.
I can stay over it.
She's also getting a higher quality landing.
The free leg sometimes swings a little low for me,
just as far as selling it to the judges.
But great program, well-costumed.
I love these guys.
Keep doing what you're doing.
You're on the right track, that's for sure.
But it's funny because I was like, okay, do I text Trent and say,
I want to have a conversation with you or something,
and then his coach, Alison, said what I was going to say anyway, so.
Yeah, it's amazing how that happens.
Trent, you don't have to call me to help.
Ha, ha, ha.
Sometimes just the power of a different voice is all it takes.
Wow, it's so easy on the couch, isn't it?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Happy Halloween, everybody.
Thank you, everybody.
Oh yeah, Trent is a huge Halloween guy.
Yes, he is.
Disappointed he's missing it tonight.
Good night.
The free program score for Leah Pereira and Trent Michaud from Canada.
They got it.
Season's best in the three,
and they win the second Grand Prix title of their careers,
and they do it, this one at home.
You can hear them go Kelowna crazy right there.
We are in first place.
So the Americans will finish in second place, the Swiss team in third.
But what a thrill it is for them.
Thank
And you see they do it comfortably
by about nine points over the Americans.
you
I can't say.
Andy, a great way to end or almost end this Halloween night.
very
much.
