On October 19th, just after 1:30 in the morning,
surveillance cameras captured this man
on your screen exiting this red car
and heading towards a parked vehicle on Avenue J and East 106th Street.
He then breaks in through a back seat before driving off.
I felt angry.
I'm frustrated.
Shattered glass still left on the ground today.
My thought was, why would anyone do something like this?
You know, there's so much that goes into getting a car.
Some people put their life savings towards
even just getting the down payment.
It's only been a year since
this lifelong Canarsie resident and her family
purchased the brand new 2025 Honda CR-V.
So whether it's installing a low jack,
a steering wheel lock, or using an air tag,
She's warning her neighbors to make sure they're on high alert.
What I'd want to see most happen right now is
A crackdown on all of these auto theft rings.
No one should have to go through so much lengths to protect their car
simply because they know that police
are going to be very slow about it.
Their thought process is that, oh, insurance is going to cover this.
If it's not the car theft, it's the violent home invasion that happened
just a few blocks away from here days after.
Or the man's body that was left on the sidewalk about a mile away.
That's leaving people worried.
About crime in this neighborhood becoming an issue
It's just been very scary.
Sometimes it's hard for me to like go to sleep properly at night.
Her family was last able to see
that their car headed towards the Bronx.
If anyone spots the car with the license plate LUK5469,
please contact police.
