A South African judge on Friday allowed
a group organizing anti-migrant rallies to plan more
marches but under tighter conditions.
The government had sought to stop the rallies
on grounds that they harm public order.
Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the court in Durban
on Friday as the judge examined the police minister's application.
The group's leader denied it sought to create chaos.
You can't blame March on March for every single violence outbreak
because you want to do that.
We know and we've consistently been saying that in Durban,
KwaZulu-Natal, there's a lot of vandals that
live in the city. So if you're going
to say every single time they decide to do something
that is going to be blamed on March on March,
then you have to prove it.
Protesters sang and chanted outside the High Court,
waving placards, reading, quote,
Reclaim Our Country, end of quote,
and sticks as police officers kept a close watch.
Durban has become a focal point of anti-migrant agitation led
by the March on March movement.
I am not a member of any political party,
I don't give a damn about politics but I give
everything in my life towards ensuring that there is a peaceful
and a prosperous South
Africa where everyone lives in harmony and are equal before the law.
Some demonstrations have turned violent, including last week
when a mob of about 50 people beat a foreign national to death,
prompting President Cyril Ramaphosa
to deploy soldiers to support the police.
