The owner of that food truck that exploded in St. Paul last weekend
is opening up about his harrowing experience.
In all, three people were hospitalized with severe burns,
and the St. Paul Fire Department says the cause
of the blast is still under investigation.
But as Maury Glover explains,
the owner says he has a lot to be grateful for.
I'm doing well, man. I'm doing well. A little emotional.

It's a mental struggle.

But just days after buying a used food truck
to serve up southern comfort food,
much.
that dream took an unexpected detour.
It was shocking, it was overwhelming,
but I'm blessed. Shahid says he, his fiance,
and a friend were doing a test run on the truck
last Sunday behind his house on St. Paul's East Side
when something went terribly wrong.
He says he had turned on the propane tank
and was about to light the pilot light for the deep fryer
when an explosion blew him out of the truck.
I knew as being around kitchen,
I knew to stop, drop and roll.
So at that time, that was on my mind. I was rolling
to make sure that this fire is put out.
Shahid says he suffered second and third
degree burns on his face,
hands and legs and has undergone surgery to repair the damage.
He says all three of them will be at Regions Hospital for weeks,
and the road to recovery won't be an easy one.
It's hurting, it's killing me,
but they definitely taking care of me.
Shahid's family has started to go fund me
to help with medical bills and living expenses
while he and his fiance are out of work.
But he hopes he'll still be able to launch
his food truck business once he's back on his feet.
Yeah, I'm definitely lucky to be alive.
I feel like God got a plan for me.
He ain't finished with me yet.
He burn me up, but he ain't burn me down.
