But first tonight at 10, another beautiful
fall week wrapping up here in the D.C. region.
The temperatures, though, they are going to drop a bit
as we get closer to Halloween, which, yes, is just around the corner.
Let's get to meteorologist Mike Thomas now
for a first check on your holiday forecast.
Mike, I like the little pumpkin.
You got to be a little bit festive, right,
as we get ready for that Halloween holiday on a Saturday,
which means, you know, always in terms of being extra busy
whenever it falls on a Saturday with like extra kids out.
Trick or treat later, they get an extra hour of sleep
because it also is one of those rare times
that we will be falling back the exact same weekend.
So you get an extra hour
of sleep between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
77 today. What a day in Washington.
Beautiful afternoon. Pretty comfortable evening.
Now, a note.
Cooler for tomorrow compared to today.
It will be dry, though, so good news for the trick-or-treaters there.
Dulles 76, Baltimore 76 degrees, well above the seasonal average,
which is down to just 64 degrees this time of year.
Live look outside at the cap
of the wheel still turning at this late hour
and all aglow tonight.
Temperature is 61 now, Reagan National.
Dulles, same deal.
BWI, Thurgood Marshall already in the 50s,
and a lot of us will head for the 40s and even the 30s
in our far western zones during those overnight hours.
There's a big picture showing you not too much happening close to D.C.
As we continue to watch the satellite radar here,
there are a couple of cold fronts that have passed on by.
They came through what we call dry, meaning no rain along with them
and barely a cloud, to be completely honest with you.
So a little spoiled in that department.
We look ahead through the overnight hours.
Temperatures falling down even into the 40s here in D.C.
That's how much drier the air is.
Sun is back, especially first half of the day tomorrow.
It does look pretty bright.
It'll just be cooler with high temperatures only in those middle 60s.
Lower than middle 60s, in fact, and breezes, they
were a little gusty today, but they'll be lighter tomorrow just out
of the north, though, so that'll keep things on the cooler side.
So for that all-important trick-or-treat planner forecast, temperature
by about, oh, 6 o'clock in the evening, sun's going down 60 degrees,
trick-or-treaters come out, temperature's likely falling into the 50s,
suburbs, too, might be a little cool and chilly
for trick-or-treat time, 55 degrees there by 8 o'clock in the evening.
Happy Halloween, everybody.
Back to you, Sydney.
Good job, Mike.
Thank you.
All right, we want to get you to some breaking
news right now out of Prince George's County.
Where police are investigating a shooting at a rec center.
This is a live look now here from the scene
at Fort Foot Rec Center in Fort Washington.
PG Park police say a man was flown to the hospital
and is in critical condition right now.
We're told that shooting happened just outside
of the rec center around 7:30 tonight.
No word yet from police on a suspect at this time.
Be sure to stay with Fox 5 and Fox Local.
As we learn more, we will be sure to update you in real time.
Let's move now to a developing story out of Wheaton,
Maryland, where a car crashed
into a townhome, displacing two families.
Fox 5's Shamari Stone is at the scene now
with the very latest on that investigation.
Tonight this was incredibly scary for the driver of this luxury BMW SUV
and the people who were inside the townhouse when he slammed into it.
Take a look at this front end damage.
Debris right here. You can see the grill. It's dented.
Now you're asking yourself what exactly happened. Well
the driver may have got confused between the brake and the accelerator.
Jumping this curb and then coming right into the front lawn right here.
Missing this bush, slamming right into the kitchen.
Take a look at all of this damage.
This was brick.
You can see it collapsed on the ground there.
You have shattered glass.
And this is the kitchen in there.
You got the stove.
And the homeowner, thankfully,
he and his wife were not inside of the kitchen.
In fact, they were on the other side of the house.
But they heard that loud impact, and it definitely scared them.
Now, before we continue, let me show you this.
There are crews who are going to take this plywood
and they're going to come right over here, Jesse Burkett Hall,
and show them they're going to have to replace that wall right there
and put that over it while crews try to figure out what to do next.
Montgomery County fire officials say they responded
to the crash around 445 this afternoon.
When the firefighters arrived, they found that BMW SUV had hit
the building, causing damage to the structure.
The two people inside the SUV, the husband and wife.
They're okay. They were definitely shaken up. Neither was hurt.
No injuries were also reported for the couple who lives inside
of the townhouse. Fire officials say the impact may have,
however, affected the load-bearing parts of the building,
the actual structure, the stability.
Montgomery County code enforcement officials have been called out
to assess the damage and determine whether the home is safe.
For residents to return right now, there is no timeline
for when the residents will be allowed back inside.
Fire officials say there's no indication
of suspicious circumstances or unsafe driving.
They're trying to figure out what exactly caused this.
And as of tonight, this appears to be an accident.
And what's interesting is that the couple who lives here
and the driver who slammed into their house.
They've been friends for over 20 years,
so they're actually talking to each other,
trying to figure out what to do,
and the couple who lives here also tells me
that they do have homeowner's insurance,
so they're trying to sort everything out.
The good news, no one was hurt.
In Wheaton, I'm Shamari Stone.
Back to you.
We now know police have recovered the gun connected to a crime scene
of a shooting that left a congressional intern dead in D.C.
New court filings tonight showing U.S. Park Police recovered
the pistol during a traffic stop on October 21st back in June of 2025.
21-year-old Eric Tarpenian-Jockem died in a drive-by shooting near
the Mount Vernon Square Metro Station.
Three suspects were arrested in that case.
And in Prince George's County, a teen will spend seven years
in prison for killing a mother while driving a stolen car.
But tonight, her family says the punishment, it doesn't go far enough.
Michael Collins was 16 when he killed Shante Denise Canty
in a Landover crash in August of 2025.
Canty's nonverbal son was with her in the car during the crash.
She also has a six-year-old daughter.
It is difficult for family members sometimes
to understand why the sentences are less severe.
I'm just, I don't know.
Collins' sentence includes community service
for eight hours every year on the anniversary of the crash.
An 18-year-old who was shot
and killed in Langley Park has been identified now.
Omar Ajal was found dead in Langley Park just before 11 a.m. yesterday.
Police say he was found dismembered by maintenance workers.
Still no word yet on a suspect or motive.
This was one of just three deadly shootings
in Prince George's County yesterday alone.
And a man is facing murder charges in connection
with a deadly bus stop shooting in northeast D.C.,
which led to an officer-involved shooting.
Police say William Chase Jr. shot and killed Jefferson Moreno
Jimenez around 5 a.m. yesterday along Minnesota Avenue.
Police opened fire on Chase.
Minutes later, after he was accused of shooting toward another person,
he remains in the hospital tonight.
And a former Arlington substitute teacher
is heading behind bars now. A judge sentenced
Timothy McGee today to five years in prison
for having an inappropriate relationship with a 16
year old Washington Liberty student that began
while he was teaching and tutoring her. Upon
release, McGee faces three years of supervised probation
and must register as a sex offender.
Fairfax County police are investigating the theft
of $2,400 as a suspected bank jugging scheme.
Police believe the suspect watched
the victim withdraw cash from an Annandale bank about a
week ago, then followed them to a gas station.
Then while that victim was inside the gas station,
the suspect allegedly took the money.
To avoid becoming a victim, police suggest you just
conceal cash and avoid leaving any of your money unattended in a car.
A FedEx driver has been fired after a hit-and-run
in Maryland was caught all on camera.
You see it here.
Cassius Johnson says he was just barbecuing on his patio in Waldorf
when a neighbor alerted him
that his car parked near sophomore court had been smashed.
Within hours of Fox 5 reaching out to FedEx, he got results.
I'm just assuming with these young people on their cell phones
and smoking marijuana,
But when the neighbor pulled up the video, the show.
FedEx truck. I was shocked.
I just want to thank Fox.
Directly with Johnson to cover the damages to his car.
And this just in, the legal battle over
the future of the Kennedy Center is heating up
in federal court. Democratic Congresswoman Joyce Beattie filed
a brief today opposing
renewed efforts to close the historic venue for two years,
accusing officials of concealing key
evidence to mask financial mismanagement.
Beattie claims trustees were never shown
assessments from their own construction
manager showing closure was unnecessary.
She is asking a judge to keep renovations blocked
and bar any attempts to demolish the landmark.
And a federal judge is now calling for an investigation
into whether Justice Department attorneys misled her about President
Trump's plans to close and renovate East Potomac Golf Course.
And that is not the only Trump project facing legal scrutiny today.
Fox 5's Shirin Rajay is at East Potomac with the very latest.
President Trump wants to turn this public golf course
into a world-class championship golf course.
But the biggest question today
in federal court was not about renovations.
It was about whether or not the Justice Department
was being honest with the judge about the president's plan.
And yes, today there was a lot of back and forth.
It got tense at times, and the judge has now ordered
an independent investigation into the matter.
The judge is troubled and rightly so by these
misrepresentations that appear to have been made
and has appointed a special master to look into the matter.
It's an extraordinary course of conduct,
but it's part of a larger pattern.
So here's why the judge is raising questions.
President Trump announced
the course would close November 15th for a major overhaul.
But government attorneys initially told Judge Ana Reyes
no closure plan existed.
The DOJ has since acknowledged
the president directed officials to move forward.
So the judge has now appointed a special master
to conduct an independent investigation
into whether or not the DOJ attorneys misled the court.
Meantime, the judge has also restricted further tree...
Removal after hundreds were cut down and in another federal
courtroom today, a separate legal challenge to President Trump's
proposed 250 foot arch near Arlington National Cemetery.
Opponents argue Congress must approve that project.
But back here in East Potomac,
golfers say there's more at stake than just a renovation.
This closes down golfers that want to come out, practice play.
You're probably looking 40, 45 minutes as kind of.
the next best option. There's a lot of exclusive memberships
and exclusive places to play golf but
there's not many public courses
or places where everyone can come and enjoy it or even just sit
here and enjoy the views.
Now the Department of Justice has confirmed the November 15th closure
but still there's a lot of confusion out here whether
or not the legal back and forth
will actually allow them to move forward with that timeline. Guys.
