Oh, it's going to be an action-packed weekend in Sarasota
as more than 200 BMX racers from all over the world come here
to compete for a chance to go to the Olympics.
Yeah, these athletes, they're at the top of their game. They are.
And Fox 13's Kimberly Quezon tells us how points earned here
could actually help bring them to their greatest competition yet.
The UCI BMX Racing World Cup is a qualifier event to the 2028 Olympics,
and this weekend you can see athletes from across
the world competing here in Sarasota.
This has been a 10 round international series. Now they're
at the final weekend and the only stop in the United States.
You're going to see the best of the best from BMX athletes.
That includes Jeremy Smith, who is based in Myakka and Tyler Henry,
who recently moved to Sarasota to be closer to the track and to train.
These BMX athletes have trained some their entire lives
for this moment. It's taken not only hard work,
but dedication and a lot of racing to get here.
I started racing when I was five and it's
This has kind of been the dream,
just being able to race around guys that aren't from
here and be on the highest level.
I mean, that's what this is,
is the highest level of BMX racing, and it's a blessing.
Honestly, it's a dream come true
from a five-year-old little kid, you know?
The riders from the other country
are going to fall in love with Florida.
I've seen it already from them on social media going to the beaches
and the palm trees and
such, but I also think it's great for...
The local riders
and local families as well to see such a professional event.
The World Cup is taking place at Sarasota BMX's track,
which is the oldest continuously running BMX track
in the United States.
Races will be held this Saturday and Sunday,
and you can come on out
and see these athletes in action here at Sarasota BMX.
