Jordan Love: Talent vs. Inconsistency in Quarterbacks

David, I want to ask you about Jordan Love because Jordan Love to me,
he's just such a fascinating quarterback because I think I've told John
this, but there are moments where I look at Jordan Love and I'm like,
man, this guy's uber talented.
He should be a top three quarterback in this league
with how he plays sometimes. And then other times he throws
a pick in the end zone like he did on Thursday night.
And it's like, brother, did you not see the double coverage?
Do you not see the safety come over from the top?
Like it was clear as day.
And I just don't know where I go with Jordan Love.
Like, I don't know where I'm at with him.
And I need your help on figuring out where you're at with him.
I mean, Grant, to answer your question, the answer is no.
Did Jordan Love see the double coverage?
No.
Did Jordan Love see the safety stepping in?
No.
Did Jordan Love see the linebacker?
No.
He has this ability to forget how many players are on the defense.
And he can go from, you're right.
He looks like the reincarnation of Brett Favre,
Bart Starr, Aaron Rodgers, and then
he's Jameis Winston.
The problem isn't the talent.
It's the inconsistency,
and I think that it's less about what he can do and more about
what's up here, and it's hard
because the Packers don't have a team that they can game
manage, right?
Right. We've seen many teams go far over the years on.
Even look at what the Vikings are doing.
Obviously, it's not Kyler Murray that's leading them there,
but they have a team that if you put the right quarterback
in the right system, you can game manage.
But here's another thing, though.
Sometimes you're just good, and that's it.
Sometimes the next level, you just,
like, Jared Goff's a good quarterback.
As a level, he will never get
to because it's just not in the cards for him.
Jordan Love may be that good.
He may be able to put up great numbers,
but he'll never really satisfy the taste.
That you are hoping that you can get out of him.
I know that sounds crazy when I put it like that.
I mean, you said it, not me.
I mean, my bad.
Tim Parker, that's on me.
That's on me, Tim.
Tim would have been talking about salad.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's on me.
But I think that there are a couple of players,
a couple of quarterbacks in this position
that they're just not going to meet the moment
at the level that you want them to.
And we have to, at some point, let that go.
Yo, like Jared Goff.
I think Jordan Love is what he is.
We've all accepted Jameis Winston as a great case study for this.
Him and Geno Smith.
We've accepted what they are.
This is what they are.
Sam Darnold.
And we've moved on from it.
Sam Darnold.
We've accepted what he is.
Sam Darnold.
And we've moved on from it.
And people keep expecting Jordan Love to hit another level.
We've accepted what Dak Prescott is.
It's true.
I think we have by now.
He's not going to another level.
It doesn't matter what talent you put around him.
The coach might make him go a little bit higher,
but Dak is what he is at this point.
And so when we look around the league
and some of these young guys coming in,
we don't know how great Jaden Daniels can be.
We don't know what's going to happen with Drake Maye.
We're still in the dark about Bo Nix.
We are kind of figuring out about Caleb Williams.
I think we're all getting to a consensus.
I don't like it, but Brock Purdy's really good.
And Trevor Lawrence, too.
With the right set.
Trevor Lawrence may actually be really good
when you put him in the right setting,
like all quarterbacks.
And so I just don't think Jordan Love
will ever surpass those guys
when it comes to playing quarterback.
Yeah, like David, you know, obviously,
he's never, I don't think,
ever going to be an MVP-tier quarterback.
But like I said,
There's just moments, there's flashes
where you do see that potential.
You see it.
And that's what's just so,
I wouldn't even say frustrating to me
because I don't have a rooting interest in the Packers.
But he also has some pretty darn good receivers.
Matthew Golden's been good this year.
Christian Watson was awesome until he jumped.
Thinks that he faked a hospital trip,
but he's been really good this year.
So he circled the stadium in an ambulance.
So David,
like really quick before we go on to the next segment
and we'll actually
bring you back on for the next segment too,
to talk about the trade deadline.
But do you think he's just a beneficiary of like the receivers at this
point?
Or is he just kind of good at times?
Jordan Love being a beneficiary of his receivers is a sentence.
I never thought that I'd hear.
I think.
No matter who you put around him,
this is the first time really ever the Packers have
had to game plan around a quarterback that wasn't everything.
