In New York City, this particular election,
there are two party designation lines and one is stop
mom Donnie, the other is block mom Donnie.
How do you feel about having two voting lines named
after you? Well, I feel bad for them
because they're splitting the vote. It's going to be
hard for them to argue.
So they should have worked together to do one anti-me line, but
maybe they'll get it next time. We'll go to Hannah behind you.
When they say basketball,
they talk about containerization because my jump shot is trash.
Hi, Mayor.
Hey, how's it going?
Good. How are you?
Doing well.
Yesterday, the governor didn't shut down added tax hike next year
when she was questioned about it by a reporter.
Are you happy that she now seems open to increasing taxes next year?
I'm happy to continue working with the governor.
She is someone who has been committed to the health of this city.
I can tell you, I've been the mayor for a little over 10 months now.
And in that time, the eighth day, she came
in with one point two billion dollars to make universal child care
a reality for two year olds across the city.
And just six months in, she was a.
key reason why we were able to balance
our budget even after inheriting a significant
fiscal deficit. So I'm looking forward
to continuing to work with her. I know that in
the larger context of mayors and governors,
there hasn't always been that kind of a relationship.
We're excited to chart a new course where New Yorkers can see
that their representatives at
every level of government are working together
to deliver on the problems that they're facing.
Are you hopeful that she'll
Want to move forward with a tax on the wealthy next year?
I'm hopeful that the governor and I continue
to have a productive relationship
and that we deliver on the things that New Yorkers need.
She's spoken about how she's committed
to ensuring we don't just maintain our 2K program,
but expand that program, and that's something
that's incredibly exciting to me.
Okay, we've got time for one more.
We're going to go to Molly from Politico.
Morning. Morning. Afternoon, I guess. Afternoon.
Yes. So one of the things I love just as much
as political gossip is celebrity gossip.
Nicki Minaj came out and sort of tore into Governor Hochul.
Can you believe that's a sentence?
So...
Nikki's beef in the rap world is with Cardi B,
who you have come out with in support of your 2K program.
Wondering what your reaction is to Nikki coming into the governor,
if you're hoping to see Cardi, you know, come out in support
of her and just your reaction to all of this going on.
I think it's hard to believe that it's all real.
Um...
And I think...
I have said it before that New York City loves
and appreciates Cardi B not only for the music that she has made,
but also for her love of history and how passionate she is about music.
So much of the politics has helped to make the city what it is today.
She has been a partner in getting the word out about 2K
and about child care.
And I think that that's a beautiful use of her platform
as one to support working parents everywhere
and ensure that nobody leaves the city
because of the cost of raising a child.
Do one final question. Go back to Channel 7 for one last question.
A lot of Cardi support on the block.
Mr. Mayor, I know you were asked about this yesterday.
I just want to circle back.
Please.
Given the awful fire in the Bronx with the e-bike,
I think it was reported today that the bike
was used by the dad for work, I think.
What are we doing?
I know you mentioned it's been looked at.
It's been talked about.
In a complex such as NYCHA,
where are you supposed to store your e-bike?
Not just to recharge it,
but store it so that it is safely outside of the building.
Thank you.
It seems this would be, I know you mentioned it's been looked at, but.
No conversation is ever going to come to a conclusion
when the topic is how can we deliver
public safety for New Yorkers.
And so that conversation is one that is open
and continuing in our administration.
We are grieving with this family.
They lost a child.
Other family members are in critical condition at various hospitals.
Thank
It is devastating for that family.
And as you were saying, lithium-ion battery fires is at the source
of not only that fire, but also more than 400 fires across the city.
It's an increase of more than 100 since the year prior.
And our job is how to instruct New Yorkers
you.
of the safety that can come from proper charging.
I think our encouragement to every New Yorker
is to ensure that that device is outside of their home.
But even if it is inside the home,
you heard from the NYCHA CEO yesterday.
The importance of it not blocking a method of egress.
And we heard from a number of the firefighters yesterday about how they
had to risk their lives to get through that fire to get to the family.
So we are having a conversation internally as to whether there
are any additional ways we can combat this.
Because we also know that, as you said, for many New Yorkers,
these bikes are a part of their livelihood.
And so this is something that is going
to continue to be a part of our lives.
We ask New Yorkers to stay as safe as possible,
and we're going to look
at if there's any other way for us to help them.
Thank you all.
Thank you so much.
