insider drops massive report
that has the whole entire hockey world on the edge of their seats
right now because a Dylan Larkin trade is imminent
and there are only select few teams
who could make this outcome possible welcome
in to Devil's Digest appreciate you guys being here
today always love when you guys decide
to stick around hit the subscribe button talk more hockey
likes don't hurt too much either
and both help out the channel a ton so in the past little bit today
uh things are heating up around the Dylan Larkin situation
and uh it's just gotten ugly Detroit
coach Todd McClellan just told reporters Dylan Larkin will
not play tonight and general manager
Steve Yzerman will address the media on this situation
so it's a little interesting I find
it a little bit ironic because a couple
of days ago I came out here and said oh no the Dylan
Larkin situation isn't like Connor Hullabuck's
they're completely different yes they both
both requested a trade but Connor Hullabuck has
a message out here um he's not playing for the team
he's been suspended no training camp you know
this is a completely different situation from
Dylan Larkin and things kind of felt that way until today
because today uh it just got ugly
and Pierre LeBrun reporting kind
of the same thing we heard with Connor Hullabuck you know
requesting a trade for a while felt
that it could get done didn't get done and uh we're following
in the same footsteps I mean one goaltender wants
a trade uh says he's wanted it for a while
things kind of stayed a little bit quiet
and then all of a sudden it's like well you know I'm just
not gonna play anymore I mean we're seeing this thing boil over
and it's all of a sudden starting
to boil over quicker and quicker
because we knew Dylan Larkin has a no trade clause and there were
certain teams he was going to go to now just over
a little bit over a week ago it was uh reported
that he expanded it to 10 teams
so if I look all right you know what these two sides they're
working together they're trying to find
a way out now whether that has been because Dylan Larkin
just like, hey, I want out of here, or it's like,
you know what, I've been the captain
here, I was drafted here, I've been here for the past decade,
you know, let's try and make
this work for both of us, well, today,
how today's gone, it's making me lean a little
bit more toward one way that he wants out,
and Sean Horkov, look, he knows he wants out,
I mean, like I said,
he hasn't addressed the media on the situation yet, but we all know
where this is going.
This is a trade up.
It's being reported that, you know what,
Detroit, they're checking back in with teams,
teams that have interest, teams that,
you know, could make this trade work.
Detroit's like, look, just get rid of this.
We need to rip the bandaid off because there's no change of heart here.
You know, remember how quickly things changed with Connor Hellebuyck?
Oh, you know what?
He might want to come back to the team.
There is a change of heart.
Well, how long did that last?
Because Connor Hellebuyck is now a New Jersey Devil.
And Winnipeg, you know, players are saying,
you know, well, we're happy.
We want guys who want to be here.
I mean, we'll hear the same thing with wherever Dylan Larkin goes.
We're going to hear the same exact thing.
Now, which teams can make this work?
Because he doesn't have no trade clause.
There's 10 teams on this list.
And that also came out a little bit more into that.
David Panjota, Dylan Larkin, the Capitals, Wild, Devils
and Hurricanes are among the teams that
have been engaged in talks with Dylan Larkin this week per sources
while the Montreal Canadiens
continue to hold out hope now Montreal would
be interesting I would not be surprised if they had
the best offer out there
um you know they're they need probably another center they know they're
contending Jeremy Fowler looks like they found their goaltender
so Montreal probably has a strong
offer but Dylan Larkin has not yet you know given the green light
so you look around this and you
say okay which teams feel like they need Dylan Larkin the most
and it kind of comes almost from
an outside type of pressure that Minnesota's that team
because Minnesota's been trying to find a
first-line center you know
for the past decade decade plus I mean you think about it they were
trying to find their way through
the draft you know they drafted Marco Rossi you know they've
gone with you know Yurov as well two top picks you know in their drafts
and it just didn't work
because one of them they traded away for Quinn Hughes
and the other one well you know what good
start to the year but so far he hasn't lived up to it
and could definitely be in this in this trade
now the other part to it
is look Minnesota they know you know they see what the Devils are doing
and they know that you know they want Quinn Hughes
so if they want to keep Quinn Hughes you
know Dylan Larkin probably is a step toward
that now I've always said it you know I think the
argument doesn't make a ton of sense
because you're saying oh well you know what if they get
that center his friend you know he signs on the dotted line tomorrow
or today well I play Devils
advocate here and I go well there's a better center
who also seems to be Quinn Hughes's friend
in New Jersey actually it's also his brother
so that doesn't make as much sense but you know
Minnesota they clearly they want to make a move if they have any chance
and they'll be interesting
because do they make the trade
if they don't get you know Quinn Hughes saying that I'm signing here
and maybe that holds it back
and one of these other teams can become aggressive you know we
I heard that Carolina was really aggressive
in the Connor Hellebuyck sweepstakes.
New Jersey won those.
Probably, I'd say all four of these teams are aggressive right now.
They all want to get Dylan Larkin.
Look, Dylan Larkin, I mean, the guy,
he scores 30 goals every single season.
He's a 30-goal scorer every single year.
Those don't come by too often.
Those don't come by on trade markets,
with term, with not a bad contract.
It's tough to get those guys.
I mean, especially with the cap going up,
you know, Dylan Larkin, he signed his contract
before the cap went up.
So you're thinking value wise,
you're probably getting pretty good value here for a consistent
30 goal score.
And I mean, all those teams on that list,
look, they're looking to contend right now.
They want to contend right now.
You know, Washington probably feels toward the end.
uh you know they're doing a good job going out
and getting guys like you know Tucker Kyrou uh you
know some of the younger guys leonard
but with washington they're another team that look we need
to win right now minnesota they're thinking about
it we don't know what's going on with quinn we need
to win right now um carolina just won last year new jersey just got
their franchise goaltender
so all these teams are going to create a bidding war it's just
which team comes out on top and
when i think about it from the devil's perspective
because i'd love to come out here and make a mock
trade for you guys
and show what i think they would do well the cap pretty much makes that
impossible you know to make a complete mock trade
this feels impossible completely not impossible
to go trade for him but you're gonna need somebody
to waive their no trade call and i think it's
tougher to get a player to waive a no trade clause
when your team is playing well you just made a
trade for Connor Hellebuyck
and oh wow now this team's gonna go get Dylan Larkin and i'm the guy
out you know that becomes a little bit tougher harder to navigate
so i mean trying to make a
mock trade out of this uh all i can give you
is that a first round pick is gonna be involved
can't give you much more than that um can Steve Yzerman make
this work absolutely uh there are ways
to figure this out in terms of you know
those no trade clauses moving a player out um you know
who that would be like that's where it becomes difficult
because a lot of them have the no trade
clause a lot of them have you know contracts
that you know maybe don't work out in 2026 2027
um but who would be that that'd be just a guessing game
and Steve Yzerman clearly would
have to figure that out now would you need
to do a three-way team trade involved i mean we heard
rumors of that with Connor Hellebuyck um potentially
because detroit might not want to
take on that cap but that's something that we'll have to wait
and see i mean look they want to deal
out of this it's clear when
when he gets to a point where you know a player is not going to
play games anymore and you know it's pretty much
bring up one more thing why not um being said
he will not play again until a trade is finalized i mean it's
the end detroit knows that they need
to find a way to move off of this get out of it
um there's going to be no you know makeup here
uh it's it's done so dylan larkin out of detroit
a few teams involved look a lot of metro teams
don't be surprised with vegas look vegas always finds
a way to come in at the end
and make things interesting so you know take them out of the equation
but right now we're hearing
you know new jersey washington carolina minnesota
um you know montreal they want to be in it i
i think dylan larkin necessarily wants them to be in it
so you have those teams right now if i get
another update i'll definitely come on again
and uh we'll share it and see where he's gonna go
but uh dylan larkin looks like detroit uh it
doesn't look like it detroit's done okay detroit's
done with dylan larkin it's over there let me know
if you have a someone maybe a mock trade
maybe a contract you suggest to get off
the books to go make a dylan larkin trade work
