Insider drops new bombshell report around
a highly coveted player that will turn these
sweepstakes into a straight dogfight.
And for someone like Sonny Mehta,
whose plan is to make this team more offensive, he looks
like he just found some luck.

so we've known for a little bit Dylan Larkin wants out
of Detroit that experiment seems to be over
and we have some more news on it according
to Helene St. James Dylan Larkin has extended his
trade list to 10 teams and New Jersey's on it
so you're thinking about the Dylan Larkin situation
and you think about where it's gotten
to at this point he's still playing for the team he wants out
He's wanted out since pretty much, I mean,
now we're coming up on months, but he's still
playing for the team.
He's extended his trade, expanded his trade list to 10 teams.
Look, they're working together.
I mean, this is a lot different than
the Connor Hellebuyck situation in Winnipeg.
I mean, that's, you know, a note out there.
We've been trying to work at this for six months.
Hasn't happened.
And guess what?
I'm not playing either.
I have a contract here, but you know,
I don't want to play here anymore.
So I'm just not going to do it.
This seems like a more of a situation where Detroit,
Dylan Larkin, his agent, they want
to work together.
They want to get it done.
I mean, clearly, when you submit 10 more teams
that you'd rather be on than the team that
you're on, you want out of there.
But they're finding out a way to make this work for both sides.
So this becomes important
because Detroit feels like they can be a little bit more selective.
I mean, they have more teams they can talk to.
Dylan Larkin's still playing.
There's a lot more factors here.
That's going to make a Dylan Larkin trade probably
a little bit harder to do.
Now, it has been said, they haven't been able
to find something that they love out there
on the market.
Okay, nobody's came out here and given a big enough deal.
So for the devil's side, does this thing work?
Do the devils go out and they get Dylan Larkin?
Well, you think about what Sonny Mehta has right now.
He's got a superstar first line center.
He's got one of the best two-way centers on the second line.
he went out and got a third line center in Evan Rodriguez
and that made Cody Glass become the
fourth line center where it all evens out
so does Dylan Larkin find a way to work here well
I'm not a big fan of putting Jack Hughes a point
per game player over point per game player
switching up his position to the wing uh I've never never liked
that idea I think of a player
scoring you know at a hundred point pace
as a center keep him as a center makes a little bit
sense but when you get Dylan Larkin I mean you're talking about
a 30 goal scorer 30 goal scorer last
season um when looking at his number 67 points
and he's a 30 goal scorer every single year I mean
looking back just look at the numbers 31 32 33 30 34 don't let
the one fool you we're seven games
into this season he's gonna hit 30 again this year
so every team has their centers can they
get better they're sure but every team
also needs another 30 goal scorer i mean think about today's
nhl adding expansion teams uh you know rebuilds whatever you're trying
to do teams are always
looking for 30 goal scorers they always need 30 goal scorers i mean
the nhl right now the argument
is we can't go to another expansion team
because we don't think we have enough talent and you're
seeing it there's not as many 30 goal scorers
or going to be available Dylan Larkin well he's a
30 goal scorer and he's on a contract
that works great 8.7 till 2031 he'll be 34 years old even if
he dips down to a 25 goal scorer um you're looking where
the cap will be at that point this will work
throughout the whole entire contract
so for the devils does a Dylan Larkin trade make sense yeah
he's a 30 goal scorer do I think it makes sense
for him to stay at center no because you're
thinking about it Jack Hughes Nico Hischier you
know Evan Rodriguez Cody Glass I mean you kind
of have your centers figured out now if you want
to play him as a third line center playing third
line minutes I mean we saw New Jersey's lineup
last night against Colorado I mean Nico Hischier
was the only player who played over 17 minutes
so you could go a little bit more well balanced if
you wanted to put him at third line center
but putting that center for Jack Hughes I would never
do it so what would New Jersey need to do to get
a trade like this well when we look at what so far
he's Detroit has been trying to get from Minnesota
who's been very highly involved um it looks like
they want daniela euro
so when you think about Daniel Jaroslawski you know young center former
a first round pick um Detroit sees it more
as somebody's developing into you know that bottom
six center but when you think what Detroit needs
right now they need almost everything I mean
centers they need defense they need scoring
um you know you trade away a player like Dylan Larkin
and now the past three years have gone
and you continue to lose players I mean this is a team
that's going through a rebuild retool put it generously
so for Detroit to be looking for
you know a Daniel Jaroslawski how would you compare it
with New Jersey well this is the trade that
I put together that I think the devils could come
in and at least you know be with Minnesota
and that's Alexander Cumand, Seamus Casey, a first round pick
and I said Seamus Casey right now
because I'm going with him, or Lenny Hamanyoa.
You know, pick which one you want, because Detroit needs scoring,
they need centers, they need defense.
There's a ton of things that Detroit needs.
With Dylan Larkin, you'd be giving up your first-round pick last year.
New Jersey would be giving up one of their younger defensemen.
They already have too many, and there's
another guy in Minnesota that they want.
And, you know, we'll see how that works out.
um Lenny Emmanuele, look he's probably become
the 15th 16th forward for this team right now I mean
for a 30 goal scorer you know not losing too much sleep over it
and then a 2027 first round pick I
put Vegas is there you know if they're more interested
in the devil's pick so be it just
pick one 30 goal scorer you know wherever they're picking
um as long as it's top 10 protected it
doesn't really matter
which one it is for the devils to you know do this trade and it opening
up now to 10 teams total that Dylan Larkin
is willing to go to right now could even expand um
the bidding war is going to start
because few players like this come on the market want out
and you have a chance to go get them
and if you're one of those 10 teams you're kind of saying
yourself you know what we're not maybe in the biggest rush
but Larkin and Detroit they're
working together it's not a hold-up situation
so could this open up more could they maybe get
a trade from another team that's really good
and Dylan Larkin's like you know what I don't mind
going there there's actually 11 teams I'd rather
be playing for than the Red Wings that's definitely
a possibility but Dylan Larkin is expanding
his vision on teams that he would go to so you're
gonna have to get aggressive here i mean
this is just a trade i'm putting together right now
it could be completely different if the devils decide
to go trade for him but this is something
i feel you know comparing it with minnesota you know
for first round pick center young talent
upside those type of things and if they view right
now somebody like Daniel Yurovev as more of that
bottom six center well sunny meta compared out there
to kuzmenko hoping to become like a lendl
player so when you look at it um the devils will need
to get aggressive here if they want to make
this work but i mean this is a player you want he's somebody
who fits the team his contract fits
I know, you know, right now the Devils looking at their cap space,
I mean, you know, that
number doesn't fit right now,
but this is not a trade where you try to figure out cap
space.
I mean, you can't be all
into getting everything you want to trade like this.
Now, would they have to move off a player to go and get Dylan Larkin?
Yes, that would probably need to happen.
But do I need to do it in this trade?
No, I think you're focusing on trying to get a 30 goal scorer
who scores 30 goals every
single season.
And when you look at, you know, just take it a little bit deeper,
it's not a fluke either.
I mean, this guy scores.
He knows how to score.
He's been a proven 30-goal scorer every single year.
He scores more often than he should for the most part.
I mean, this is a guy you want.
Sweepstakes will get interesting there with Detroit.
Dylan Larkin, he wants out.
10-team trade list right now, and New Jersey's on it.
Their name's on it.
Now, if you're saying, you know,
the whole entire Minnesota situation, how Quinny
signs if they get Dylan Larkin, I don't believe that for a second.
I think it sounds honestly ridiculous
because you're saying go get a center and Quinn Hughes
is like, oh, well, you know what?
We're in a better spot, which they would be, and I'm going to resign.
Well, who's the Devils' number one center?
Oh, his brother, who's better?
Okay, that makes sense.
