Tatum Just Did The UNTHINKABLE...
Oct 29, 2026
Right here. There it is. Right here.
Inbounds it to him. Jason Tatum for the win. Yes!
Jason Tatum just did the unthinkable,
folks. You all saw it.
You know what happened last night.
A game-winning shot to cap off
a 40-point performance against the Nets. But this is
not the first instance in Tatum's career where he has shown he can
be clutch. We have had many
discussions recently on the channel about if Tatum is the guy,
if he can be the guy that you go to
in these clutch moments in closing moments of the game
and he has proved yet again that he can be
that player but folks I am your host Kellen Frangione
with Celtics Digest and on today's
video we are going to break down this performance
as well as Tatum's clutch performances of the past
why he has one of the best clutch resumes in the entire league
and why people need to just stop
talking so crazy on Tatum's name
because this man shows you time and time again that he can be
trusted in these moments. Now,
the Celtics really should not have been in an overtime game with the
struggling Brooklyn Nets.
That's a game that realistically they should be winning by 30,
but you know what they say, a win is a win.
Sometimes in the NBA, people play really well.
Anyone can get the hot hand. These are the best
basketball players in the world.
it got a little out of hand tatum brought it back he closed things out
but folks before we break
down tatum's clutch resume as a whole i want
to tell you about Kalshi folks because on Kalshi
you're trading directly against other users
and not the house like traditional sports books
you're buying yes or no contracts on the outcome
of events across sports politics or even the
weather for example the boston celtics total wins
this season where you can go for 40 plus wins
50 plus wins 45 55 whatever you want folks
but that is only on Kalshi and if you wanted to pivot
to something else you didn't you don't have
to do celtics total wins this season you can do
something like the celtics to be conference champions where
a placement of 25 pays out
nearly 182 to folks that is only on Kalshi once again
and if you are interested in trying out
Kalshi. Make sure to use our code as you see it right here on screen,
DIGESTNBA in all caps. It
will be in the description and the pinned comment of this video.
You will get $55 added to your
account instantly when you trade your first 25 if you do use the code.
So we really appreciate it,
folks. Thank you to Kaushi for sponsoring this video.
And without further ado, let's get into
today's episode. Let's break down what just happened last night
and what it means moving
forward how it adds to Tatum's history well folks
we know what happened he capped a 40 point game
with an overtime winner just absolute scenes at TD Garden last night
when Tatum hit that shot
his final game line was 40 points five rebounds
eight assists plus five 10 for 20 from the field
only two for seven from three
so he's kind of still struggling efficiency wise from three this
season but 18 of 22 from the charity stripe he took
a lot of free throws got to the line that's
something that you like to see in 42 minutes and he
also had a block it was pretty impressive to
look at the full box score this game
was a lot closer than it should have been but there were
some good performances all around from the Celtics you see Paul George
also threw in 27 and 7 in 36
minutes Derek White 16 5 and 6 he
also had a huge dunk towards the end of regulation that really
should have won the Celtics the game Jordan Walsh started once again
and had 15 6 and 1 so some
positive signs from him Mitchell Robinson had 7 5
and 0 he only made one of his four free throws
including missing a pair that could have really sealed
the game for the Celtics it's unfortunate
that Mitchell Robinson is nearly unplayable in a lot
of these clutch scenarios because he cannot
hit free throws but we already knew that from his time
with the knicks sam hauser had 11 and 4 i
mean it was a solid performance pritchard had a very quiet night
but i was pleased and i was very
surprised honestly with the rookie Mikael Brown Jr
for the Nets he was just hitting huge shots
including the one that sent it to overtime Michael Porter Jr
was really hurting us from three point
range he shot 50 percent six of 12 from three with 27
and 12 and even Julius Randle played pretty well
with 24, nine and four.
He didn't shoot very efficiently, but he was getting his volume,
getting his shots in. So the Celtics really needed
to do a better job on the defensive end,
but obviously they ended up coming out with the win.
And just to, you know, get into more of the
narrative about Tatum and being clutch,
just take a look at this right here. I mean, Tatum just hit
another game winner. And since 1996, 1997,
no other player has a higher field goal percentage
on shots to tie or take the lead in the final 24 seconds of a game
and that is with a minimum of
60 field goal attempts Tatum is at the very top
of that list I'm not sure if you guys can see it
that well but there are some other big names
on there like Dirk Nowitzki Tim Duncan etc Tatum is
up there with some of the greats of this game
to get a little bit more of a look at Tatum shot
locations from this game this little diagram
is going to do that for us you can see a lot of
tatum's makes last night actually came from the paint
and the mid-range area not so much the three
he also had a ton of free throws 18 of his 40
were from the charity stripe eight at the rim four in
the paint four mid-range and then six from threes above
the break no corner threes or anything like
that now we already know tatum impacts winning a lot
but just to get a sense of it so far this year
with him on the floor you can see the defensive rating kind
of changes both ratings change there's
a little bit of a difference with Tatum on the floor off
the floor etc the Celtics winning streak
as a team is now at three games three straight wins since
that game versus the Knicks currently
undefeated at home with the next game coming up playing
the Chicago Bulls once again who they
just blew out the other day 134 to 99
so we're not too worried about that but moving forward here
folks, Jason Tatum's past moments, uh, we know Tatum has
been clutch in the past including this game
six performance versus the Bucks
and the Eastern Conference semis in 2022, I'm sure you guys
remember how historic this performance was, Tatum had 46
and 9 and 4 assists on 17 of 32 and 7 for
15 from three in a win or go home game in Milwaukee
when Milwaukee was really in their
prime with Giannis, with Drew Holiday, with Chris Middleton,
etc. Tatum has been doing this. So I'm
not sure why so many people keep saying Tatum cannot
be looked to as the guy. He has saved
the Celtics season multiple times,
which we're going to get into another example later. But I
mean, come on now. Tatum has shown he's shown what he can do.
He was quoted after that saying
that game five was in the back of their minds
the whole time in game six. It fueled them. We saw what
happened. Tatum absolutely did his thing.
And then I'm sure you all remember this next example
equally well. Tatum set a game seven scoring record
when he had 51 points against the
Philadelphia 76ers in May of 2023 to send the Sixers home.
Game seven, 51 points, 13 rebounds,
five assists on 17 of 28 and six of 10 from three, 11
of 14 from the charity stripe, two steals and
this was all in 42 minutes folks, come
on like don't forget what Jason Tatum has done for this
team in the past what he has shown
in big moments now I'm, I haven't even included his game winner
against Brooklyn, a different game winner against Brooklyn
that was in the playoffs, I'm sure you
all remember that in game one they had Kyrie, they had KD all
of those you know those different eras
Tatum has shown he can do this folks, he is one
of the guys to be looked to and just another reminder
about this game against Philly you can see it
right here oh never mind folks apologies not
working out there but you know some more quotes back
from that era that Tatum was just relieved
to get another chance our season could have
been over after game six it's the best time of the year
as a competitor Tatum loves the opportunities he's talked about
this in the past and he even
got MB to say something good about him back
in the day he was fantastic tonight he chose to have a
great night to have that type of game
and make shots Tatum is more than capable he is clutch
and this is going to bring us to our final point
of the episode folks Jason Tatum is building his
clutch resume he already has been building it
for years now as i have just shown you guys i mean
once again to remind you of this stat
that i showed you earlier Tatum highest field goal
percentage on shots that take the lead
in the final 24 seconds there's some clutch numbers
as well to show you guys right here see it ice
in his veins i mean Tatum is clutch you see the
scoring efficiency daggers 97th percentile points
see it 58.3 percent field goal percentage in
clutch. Not the highest three-point percentage, 33.3.
Not the highest free throw percentage either
in the clutch, but you can see it.
Tatum has pretty good clutch numbers, folks. I don't know
why this narrative remains with guys like Vince Carter saying
that Tatum can't be the guy. Vince
Carter, you were never the guy, unfortunately.
You're an NBA legend, but you were never really
the guy on it. So I'm not sure if it's your place to speak on that.
Tatum has already done more in
his career there's plenty of people plenty of naysayers
but I have no doubt that Tatum is going
to keep doing this if he stays healthy
and once again just to remind you guys I mean 46 in the
game six versus Milwaukee the game seven record the next year
and then not even included on here
OT game winner against Brooklyn in the playoffs as well
and now he throws in another game winner
in the regular season versus Brooklyn Tatum I'm starting
to think he doesn't like the Nets very
much because he always has
a great performance against them Joe Mazzulla said yesterday I thought
He just gave the game exactly what it needed.
Paul George also said that we got the ball to the MVP,
and he took us home.
Paul George, once again, showing he has
that trust in Jason Tatum, showing how he knows
his role is to assist him.
Tatum said, I should have never missed a free throw,
so it was like a domino effect.
A bunch of little plays led us to that.
He's right.
He should not have missed one of those free throws
in the clutch, but to be fair, Mitchell
Robinson also missed both of his in the clutch.
unfortunately we already knew that was going
to happen the second he grabbed that rebound
and got fouled I instantly grimaced
because I knew what was coming but regardless Tatum absolutely
stunning buzzer beater absolutely love to see it I
was about to have a very very bad night and be
very upset that the Celtics lost
to this Brooklyn Nets team Tatum flipped the script with one shot
at the very very end of the game there's not there's
not much better it doesn't get much better
as an NBA fan as a Celtics fan watching something like
that so folks comment down below what's the
strongest proof of Tatum's clutch reputation is it
that OT buzzer beater he hit against Brooklyn
in the playoffs is it the 46 in a game six versus Milwaukee
or C is it the 51 in the game
seven versus Philly and I'm sure the most popular answer
from you guys is probably going to be C
51 in game seven versus Philly
but for me my favorite performance from Tatum in the past so
far is definitely going to be the 46
in game six versus Milwaukee i had just never seen a performance
like that where he really put the team on his back
and just hit everything it seemed like he was
hitting every single shot he was taking in that game even
though he actually had more points in
game seven versus Philly and i just felt like
the stakes were even higher in that game six versus
Milwaukee and we know that the Celtics did eventually reach
the finals in that 2022 season
but you love to see it folks thank you very much
for watching this video once again
i am your host Kellen Frangione
with Celtics Digest, it's been a pleasure
having you guys here today
and i'll see you guys in the next one, thank you for watching
