This Is Interesting....
Sep 2, 2026
This is interesting, as we are slowly getting closer and closer to the season's start.
And there are still a lot of questions to be asked.
And one of them is, will Peyton Pritchard start this year, or will he come off of the
bench?
Well, we're going to talk about all that and more here on Celtics Digest.

And without further ado, let's get into this video.
As we're talking about Peyton Pritchard, we're talking about a very interesting question
here because this is one where last year it seemed like Peyton Pritchard was going
to be the starter.
And then towards the end of the year, he started coming off of the bench once again.
So we are in one of those years now where is Peyton Pritchard going to get back into
the starting lineup or does Joe Mazzuolo still just love him coming off of the bench?
Well, let's talk into this as we had an article from SB Nation talking about this and Peyton
Pritchard if he's going to come off of the bench this year.
As they state here, there are some givens for next year's Celtics starting lineup as
JT and Derek White will be a part of the opening five and you can pretty much pencil in PG
at the three as Joe Mazzuolo has options at center with Nunez Cato being a revelation
to last year and signing that four-year extension to keep him long term.
And obviously he will be competing with Mitchell Robinson for playing time.
Then heading into training camp, that fifth starter is a big mystery.
As last year with Sam Hauser as the fifth Beatle before Tatum's return, Baylor Scheinman
got some run as a point forward with Peyton Pritchard moving to the bench after Anthony
Simons was dealt to Chicago for Vooch.
So will Peyton Pritchard regain his starting spot or remain the team's super six man?
And I mean, last year, especially in the beginning of the year, we saw a ton of different starting
lineups where we definitely saw Hugo Gonzalez, Baylor, Peyton Pritchard.
We saw some Ron Harper.
We saw Josh Minot.
We saw Jordan Walsh.
They were doing so many things to figure things out.
But now this year with a lot more locked in spots to the starting lineup, where does this
put Peyton Pritchard?
Well, they did a vote on what they believe and 55% of Celtics fans think that Peyton
Pritchard will start next season, which is a pretty much split vote.
And I think that's where a lot of people may stand.
So you guys let me know down in the comments below where you stand with Peyton Pritchard.
Do you believe he's going to start or do you believe he will come off of the bench?
And they go on to talk about one of the reader's opinions on what they think.
And they voted a shaky no.
The reason why a fast Peyton Pritchard is a very good starting guard.
And I would be certainly supportive of his start if this was the decision, though, in
my opinion, I think he's an elite when subbing in because one, he is just far superior of
an all around player against opposing bench guards to the flow and energy of the game
stays positive.
If the starters are playing well or recalibrates positively when he enters off, the start is
more flat.
And three, it is possible for him to end all four quarters in rhythm where his play at
times has been magical.
I think that he recognizes this as well as since he repeatedly has shared that he is
OK with any role as long as he plays.
Another factor, I think George Tatum and big country Robinson, unlike unlikely to playing
back to backs, is what I'm guessing Tatum George offset on B2B or play together in one
and sit together in the other.
We would probably go much smaller when Robinson sits.
As a result, I can see Pritchard getting starts sprinkled in throughout the season.
And I can totally see that, too.
I think the Boston Celtics are going to play around with a little bit of things, especially
the beginning of the season.
I believe whatever starting lineup they roll out there will probably be the starting lineup
for a couple of weeks.
And if things aren't going well, they will move things around.
But I think we all know what type of energy Peyton Pritchard brings off the bench.
As Joe Mizzoula has talked about the energy that he brings off of the bench and how it
changes so much for this team.
As I do agree that sometimes he does start the game off a little bit flat.
But I think that he really appreciates the six man role in coming out and bringing energy
that team needs because the Celtics have come out very slow many different times.
And then Peyton Pritchard comes in, he starts getting into a groove and now all of a sudden
everybody's mentality changes.
They're right back into everything and everyone starts finding their flow.
So I think that there's positives to both sides of these things and I can totally agree
with either one.
Like the reader said, I truly think that both options are fantastic options.
I think that either way, he will be playing the same amount of minutes per game regardless.
So I think just whatever they are most comfortable with for Peyton Pritchard, I think that they
will go with and what they think will be best for their team.
So if we look at some of his stats from last year, as this is in 29 games off the bench.
Of course, since he started too many games, he was unable to be eligible for six man of
the year.
As he averaged 17.2 points, five assists and 3.3 rebounds in his 29 games off the bench.
And remember, a lot of these games he came out absolutely firing.
And then we look at the other side of things.
When he started in games, he averaged 16.9 points, 5.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 50
games.
And these stats are pretty similar.
I guess when it comes to points for games, he's a little bit better off the bench.
The assists are pretty much the same, 0.3 more when starting.
And then when it comes to rebounds, a little bit less when coming off of the bench.
But we're not going to be nitpicky here.
It's almost like we are seeing the same player.
But when it comes to that energy factor, once again, I absolutely love when Peyton Pritchard
comes off the bench and brings the energy and changes everything for this team.
And I think it's something that they truly need.
Then we take a look at the Celtics depth chart per ESPN.
And this is their starting five that they have listed.
They have Derek White at the one with Baylor Shireman going into that starting lineup at
the two guard, followed by PGJT and Namias Keita.
And this is probably a lineup that we probably will see come game one of the season.
I think Baylor Shireman has shown a lot of promise.
I think that he's shown that he belongs in the starting lineup as he started multiple
games.
He's a high motor guy.
His shooting at all three levels is really starting to come into fruition.
I think just him being in the lineup, knowing his role and bringing some energy to this
team and to start games is a great move.
I think Sam Hauser will probably find his way into the starting lineup as well.
So I really feel as if if they're going to make starting lineups and they have to choose
between the three of them, I think that Peyton Pritchard could be third on this list just
because of how much they love Peyton Pritchard coming off of the bench.
So you guys let me know down in the comments below.
I read every single one of the comments.
So you let me know what your thoughts are on all of this.
Should Peyton Pritchard start next year or should he come off the bench and continue
to be that energy spurt off the bench that he always is?
And guys, that's going to do it for this quick little video.

And I will see all of you in the next video.
