This Reporter just CALLED OUT the Celtics...
Oct 23, 2026
This reporter just called out the Boston Celtics,
folks, as we all saw what happened
in the official season opener.
The Celtics fell to the Detroit Pistons after having
a major, major lead.
But now a reporter, an NBA legend, in fact,
has come out making a little bit of an interesting
statement about the Celtics, to say the least,
in particular about Jason Tatum.
And now I do disagree with this claim.
I heavily disagree with this claim.
I think he is jumping to conclusions,
but folks, here on today's episode of Celtics
Digest with yours truly, Kellen Frangione,
we are going to be breaking down what this
reporter and NBA legend said about Jason Tatum,
about the Boston Celtics following this really,
really bad loss.
I was extremely upset yesterday after the Celtics lost this game.
By the time you guys are seeing this,
the game, I believe, will be two days ago, but
it was just bad.
It was just bad, and it felt like the ghost
of the old Celtics all of a sudden came back.
you're up 20 blow the lead I mean we've seen it
how many times have us Celtics fans seen us go up
20 and not even feel comfortable
because we know that this team is always going to find a way to
blow it whether it's with Joe Mazzulla
and the team just chucking threes continuing to chuck
threes even though you're up 22 you know get
a little more physical get inside the paint
it was just like all the nightmares that we've seen
in the past rolled up into one but I still
disagree with what this reporter had to say about Jason Tatum
but folks before we get into that I do
want to tell you guys about Howshie
because folks if you're looking to place a little wager on
something like the Celtics to get 45 plus wins 50 plus wins
or even 55 plus wins this upcoming
regular season we're starting off 0-1
so odds might not be amazing right now but if you wanted
to do this folks you can do it
on Howshie where you're trading directly against other users and
not the house like traditional sports books
because on Howshie you're buying yes or no contracts
on the outcome of events across sports politics
or even the weather for example if you did not
want to do the celtics total wins you can instead look
to them to be eastern conference champions
where a little placement of 25 can pay out nearly 182 folks
but that is only on Howshie so please
if you are interested in trying out Howshie folks make sure
to use our code right here as you see
it on screen it is digest nba all caps
and when you use it it's in the description in the pin
comment of this video you will get 55 dollars added to your account instantly
when you trade your first
25 but once again folks that is only on calci
so thank you to them for sponsoring this video
and without further ado let's get into it today folks
who have i been talking about well
vince carter is questioning jason tatum's number one role
on this boston celtics team he said the
following I do disagree I agree with parts
of it but I disagree for the most part he said when you lose
a guy a scorer like Jalen Brown I'm not going to use the word clutch
but he was a guy when Jason
Tatum was not playing well
and rely on that guy tonight we saw PG be that guy who I was extremely
pleased with Paul George
and he nearly had 40 points most ever in a Celtics debut but tonight
we saw PG be that guy and when they started
to take away PG take away his looks now Tatum has
that opportunity so for me it's
who's going to be this consistent number two they have to stay
healthy and but you know
when you're in this position now we're always going to look at Jason
Tatum as that guy and can he deliver now I think it's
a little bit ridiculous of Vince Carter to
be talking about Tatum not being
the guy after he had one bad game yes it's the season opener yes it
was when a lot of eyes were on him yes it's
a horrible loss where you blew a lead it was a game
they should have won 100%. But to call out Tatum as not being the guy
because he shot poorly in one
singular game at the very, very start of the season,
that's where I have a little bit of a
disagreement, a little bit of a debacle here with Vince Carter.
Tatum played really bad, folks.
There's no sugarcoating it.
If we just look at the box score of the game, it's going to tell us
what we need to know. It's going to show us.
Paul George. Wow. What a debut for him. I was so
pleased. 38 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 12 for 21, 7 threes.
Extremely efficient. 5 steals as
well. I mean, PG literally looks like he turned back
the clock in this game. I couldn't have been
happier with him. Derek White played pretty okay.
Nothing crazy. Mitchell Robinson, not an amazing
debut. Jordan Walsh started in this game, didn't do much.
Pritchard, also solid, but kind of his
typical production. Nothing really stood out.
No other players really stood out, honestly,
besides Paul George and then you look at Tatum yes he had 11 assists
so his playmaking was really
on display it wasn't a complete terrible
no-show performance but 6 for 23 and 0 for 7 from if we
take a look at Tatum's shot map
from the game right here you can see really the only shots that
were falling for Tatum were the ones under
that three seven misses he didn't hit a single three
point shot and it's that same thing with Tatum
that it seems like we talk about all too much
Tatum you're literally about six foot ten
when your shot is not falling yes i know you're one
of the best players in the world i know you're confident
as you should be but i think once you
get to the point of maybe 0 for 5
from three just change it up a little bit go when you're up
22 especially drive to the paint go
in go inside you can get you can draw contact you're a big guy
you can score through contact I don't understand stop thinking
that you're Steph Curry please but
Joe Mazzulla also had the following to say after
the game I just want him to continue to make the
right play if he's open shoot it I don't care
if he's over 10 if you're open shoot fair enough
Tatum also did own up to his performance
a little bit obviously he said definitely not one of my
best nights I just have to play better he's
not wrong there's not much else to say you simply
have to be more efficient than that it's been a problem
in the past now folks Tatum made six of
23 shots as we know uh 0 of 3 that's not right it's 0 of 7
but he did have 11 assists
Paul George scored 38 five steals we had three assists Detroit came
from behind for the win as
always Celtics could not hold Charles Patrick commented
from our comments very true very
moving on Paul George a 38 point debut gives Tatum help
and it was a great debut from PG
I was extremely extremely pleased
as I already said I mean we saw the type of performance he had
this is a scoring before Boston
um you know we see he's had some good performances in the past
but in this game I mean PG extremely impressive
just absolute sharp shooting 7 for 12 7 for 8
from the line plus nine he was the best Celtic
on the floor in his debut in this season opener
Paul George kudos to you
also not number eight it's glitched PG 13 right now but wow Paul George
thank you for actually showing up
and showing heart compared to Jason Tatum and folks I just
want to go back to it though I mean I just I want
to go back a little bit to what Vince Carter said
I just disagree because I know that duo with Tatum
and Brown it was good to have one guy to lean on
when the other was not playing too well.
But think about the multiple performances Tatum has had in
the past 51 points in a game seven
He won that game six in Milwaukee when the Celtics backs were
against the wall he showed up he played fantastic
He's had plenty of moments he's
had that game winner in the 2020 season
in the season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks,
over Giannis Antetokounmpo.
He has had these clutch moments. He has had moments where he
showed up. But I don't completely disagree with Carter,
as I was saying, because Tatum does a
little bit too much sometimes like you got
to stop chucking the shot I know Joe Mazzulla instills the
confidence in him everyone has Connor he has
the confidence in himself to keep shooting when it's
not falling but like you simply have to pivot
because you let the Detroit Pistons completely
creep back into this game especially at the hands
of Duncan Robinson folks I also want to say that
the Celtics collapse in this game was bigger than Tatum shot it
was not entirely Jason Tatum's fault
the defense faltered i mean they just didn't have
the best effort in this game Joe Mazzulla also
said he's excited about the team
that we may become 25 30 35 games from now the open-mindedness
that the team has come in with the connectivity really excited about
the opportunity of and um
i'm excited as well it's important
to not overreact it is the first game of the season
after all and that's once again part
of why i disagree with Vince Carter and his little
sentiment it is one game it is the first game
of the season the Celtics ended at the two seed in
the eastern conference last season after starting
the season extremely extremely poorly i believe
they only had like two or three wins through 10 games
at the start of last season it looked
hopeless and they completely turned
the ship around they rallied that was behind Jalen Brown
of course but nevertheless folks looking forward
uh besides Jason Tatum's struggles in this first
game besides the amazing performance
from Paul George what's next well the Celtics are going to
be facing the Knicks in the first home opener
the home test against the defending champions who
fell to the new look Philadelphia 76ers
in their first game of the season just for some context if
you didn't watch the game or see what happened
the Knicks fell at home at Madison Square Garden
to this new Sixers team 106 to 100 Brunson led
the way for the Knicks with 21 points he was not
very efficient though Pat played well Andre
Drummond surprisingly played very well I was
actually I did not know Andre Drummond was only 33
by the way looking at him in this game I thought
he was damn near 40 years old no he's 33
and he looked really good honestly Maxey had 28 leading
the way for Philly Jalen Brown in his Philly debut 19-8-6
that's not as good as Paul George's
debut I must say not as good as how PG played
but this is going to be the next test for the Celtics
Now, in the past, we know. We know what the Celtics do to the Knicks.
We know it's belled most of the time. In recent years, that's shifted.
The Knicks have been the better team.
We saw that when the Celtics blew point leads in the playoffs.
We've seen it. We've seen it. The Knicks have been a fantastic team.
That is why they are the defending champions.
so it's a big big game for the Celtics in this game too
who's going to go one and one who's
going to unfortunately fall to oh
and two well it's not going to be the Celtics folks I think
that they're going to have a much better bounce
back performance against this tough Knicks team
hey folks who's to say Brian Windhorst
also chimed in on it he said he believes the Celtics are going
to win the Atlantic division ahead of the Knicks Sixers
and Raptors they're aligned to win a ton
of regular season games the Celtics take a lot
of three-pointers you know what they did they went
out and signed one of the best offensive rebounders
of this generation in Mitchell
Robinson extremely true Tatum will be healthy from the start
and if you look at their roster
they're totally built out with depth I actually think
the Celtics are going to win thank you
Brian Windhorst for that support
and I do have to you moving on folks what's next well from opener
collapse to response we know this is the timeline blew
a 22 point lead Detroit went on a 23-0 fourth
quarter run Vince Carter
is questioning whether Tatum can deliver as the number one option
he can Vince Carter just it's too early
to be talking like that next up Knicks are going to
be playing TD Garden on Friday extremely excited
for that game i hope that the Celtics can have
a bounce back performance i know that they're going
to come out hungry i know that Tatum wants
to show that he can do better than he did
in that first game we all know that he can but folks let
me know your thoughts in the comments before we
conclude today's video what is the right takeaway
from Tatum's season opener
from the Celtics overall season opener versus the Detroit Pistons
was it just one cold shooting night is it a real number one concern
or is it bigger issues with
closing games now folks I personally I'm gonna lean
with C it's a bigger issues with closing
games we have seen it
so so much in the past especially under Joe Mazzulla blowing the big
leads it needs to stop he needs to figure out
a way to stop the flow of the faucet don't let the
other team go on such a huge run at such a crucial time
in the game it can't happen it's unacceptable
but it's early on it's early on it's
a long season let me know your thoughts in the comments folks
once again I'm Kellen Frangio
and your host with Celtics Digest thank you all for watching
today's video and I'll see you all soon thank you
