This story again, the coastal flood warning is in effect
in Huntington Beach as dramatically high tides batter
the coastal community for a third straight day.
Residents are bracing for more flooding and more damage.
Fox 11's Nick Garcia joining us live.
Nick, what are the conditions there now?
Well, Christine, we're on Bayview Drive near Broadway here
on Sunset Island in Huntington Beach. You can see it is just damp here.
It's not nearly as flooded as it was earlier,
but we know at least a few homes have been yellow tagged as crews
make their way through here.
Like I said, it's looking a lot better than it did earlier. We'll
show you what that looks like now.
Beach communities dealing with a third day of flooding caused by
king tides. Streets in Huntington Beach underwater among
the hardest hit Bayview Drive. Yesterday we
had three inches in our garage. Today only one inch.
Not everybody was so lucky. All the water
coming up here is the one that came through the garage
and the driveway plus it's coming we just
noticed today it's coming up through the cracks
in the foundation she says this flooding is forcing
her to move i'm not going to be here i'm not coming back
so yeah no this was it for me
the sandbags and boards put up in anticipation
of the flooding no match for the fast rising water
And it was coming from all directions.
So it was, you know, the sandbags just it was coming through the sides.
It was coming through the back of the house. Officials warn
this is just a sneak peek of what the rest of the year will bring.
Yes, we're very worried, especially we know it's going to be higher
and I hope there's no rains because that'll make it even worse.
So we're very worried.
Amid the concerns, people are also keeping their chins up.
You crack a beer open and you come out and you
You know, we thank God for your blessings,
and nobody got hurt, and it's something we can come back from.
Certainly coming back from it,
as he said there, keeping a positive attitude.
One thing, though, Christina, I want to mention,
city officials really warning people about lithium batteries.
So think of electric vehicles or e-bikes, anything like that.
Once it touches saltwater,
those two have a kind of negative reaction and can actually combust.
That becomes a fire risk.
So if you've got an electric vehicle or an e-bike,
any other lithium battery in your garage,
you're going to want to get that out of there as soon as possible.
Live in Huntington Beach, I'm Nick Garcia. I'll send it back to you.
A newer concern. All right. Thank you so much.
