AI GeneratedA news segment discusses Halloween preparations in the Houston area, focusing on weather forecasts and alternative trick-or-treating options. The hosts interact with viewers via text to share community events and address concerns about potential rain interfering with holiday plans.
All right, you guys, a couple of minutes ago,
I asked you to send us a text at 713-581-9914.
Let us know your Halloween plans,
because it's possible you might see some rain,
and then if you do have rain, do you have a backup plan, okay?
So I'm going to read one or two of those text
messages before we get back out there to Ramesha.
James, thanks for watching, my man.
He says, rain or shine, I'm taking my kids
to the Southwest Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Halloween party.
They are having face painting,
free trick-or-treating for the kids, also a costume contest,
lots of pictures in the pumpkin patch artisan vendors
as well for the market we did that last
year and it was a lot of fun not having
to do door-to-door thing that was awesome for parents
i'm sure if you can go it's a one-stop shop you know you go one place
and the kids get everything
it's not a bad day right as opposed to getting
a couple extra steps in and maybe even walking a
mile or two although that could probably get them tired
though if you think about it but still a lot
to do either way though make sure you guys
are planning for that so james i hope you guys have
awesome time there for your trick-or-treating now
what i found interesting here i got about two or
three text messages that are asking um elaine
for example elaine is in a league city she's asking me
if malls still offer uh trick-or-treating like they did back
in the 1970s i've gotten like four
text messages like that i didn't even know that was a thing
so um i don't believe like the galleria
for example has anything like that but if you guys know
of local malls doing trick-or-treating for
kids let me know but i have not seen
that i mean i've only been in Houston now for about three
years but um apparently back in the 1970s according
to Elaine that was quite the place to be you go to
the mall do all of your trick-or-treating there that is interesting
and i got up again like three
or four text messages asking that exact same question
um so either way it goes though make
sure you guys are safe um here we go uh Cloud Estrada says
um it's not going to rain on Halloween
so we'll be fine y'all always have
the weather wrong now listen don't pick a fight with me
tonight okay i'm having a good day
but hopefully it doesn't rain okay but sometimes the forecast
is tricky you know our meteorologists work really hard
and it all comes down to timing right some of
the conversation can be what it is today
but then the forecast can change tomorrow and then by the
time we get to trick-or-treating uh
which is on is that Sunday Saturday or Sunday uh this weekend
i think it's going to be you know hopefully
a beautiful day for you guys but we're telling you
this now because we want to give you the first alert
so that way you can prepare right proper
preparation prevents poor performance
so you want to make sure you guys are prepping um lots of
folks saying uh halloween is not the same anymore
as well you know um hopefully it is where you live
though uh maria in cyprus says it's not the same
so either way guys hopefully you're planning so
now okay i don't have a crystal ball
but i do have a meteorologist so let's get to Vermicia Shade for
a look at that Meech, what's going on? I see the folks
are watching you closely all right anthony
who said it wasn't going to rain on saturday where did they get
that forecast from hey i don't know
but they said the forecast is always wrong, Meech.
Oh, my goodness.
Well, we're trying to get it right.
We're trying to get it right.
And it does look like it is going to rain on Halloween,
but we're just hoping that the majority
of it can work its way out of here
by trick-or-treat time Saturday evening.
It's a close call.
We'll talk about that a little later.
I first want to show you what's going on right now.
We do have a few showers still lingering around College Station,
just south of 290, Brenham, Hempstead, one or two heavier downpours.
And it's mainly light rain in between Wharton and El Campo.
But this is just one of maybe multiple rounds
of showers that we're going to have to deal with.
I don't think it's much for tomorrow.
Drier air is going to be building in from the east.
So the best shot for the more significant rain is going
to be Friday afternoon through, I think, late Saturday afternoon.
Now, it is still a close call as to whether
or not this rain is going to roll out in time for trick-or-treating.
Saturday evening. So you may want to have a backup plan.
I was looking up some different
trick-or-treating events across town.
There are some cool things going on with businesses
holding trick-or-treating events around
the Rice Village area in the Heights. Discovery Green has
something going on. So there's plenty to do.
So if it's raining, hopefully you can find something
indoors. If it's nicer, hey,
get out there and have some fun and enjoy your Halloween.
Right now, though, it's just a few light rain showers.
Temperature's near 80 in Houston,
And we are looking at what's happening back across
the western part of the state.
Places like Midland, already under
a flood watch really for the next couple of days.
We're going to have this tropical moisture from the remnants of Vince,
or soon to be the remnants,
it's a tropical depression now, rolling into the state.
So that can kind of spook us maybe over the next day or two,
bringing us a higher flood threat from Midland to San Angelo.
It's a two out of four risk for tomorrow.
So jumping ahead to Saturday,
that low flood threat kind of starts to push into our area.
It's really east of Houston,
but does clip places like Liberty County, Chambers County.
So there could be some heavy downpours,
and there's a low chance for maybe a few flooded streets on Saturday.
Will that impact your Halloween plans?
Right now, it looks like the majority
if the rain stays off to our west tomorrow.
So if you're traveling over to Midland, San Antonio,
that's where you could run into some problems with flooding.
Kerrville, San Antonio getting hit again as we go into Friday morning.
By Friday evening, 7 p.m., it's not a ton of rain,
but there are some scattered showers popping up.
Saturday morning, it looks like it's even more rain,
up to about a 60% shot for those showers.
And even into Saturday afternoon, we are going to have
the threat for some of those showers sticking around.
By 9 p.m., though, on Saturday,
this model at least showing that the rain is pretty much over with.
So, to break it down, it's just isolated rain for tomorrow.
High temps around 84.
Friday, it is scattered rain.
Late in the day, temps in the low 80s.
Going into Saturday night, that's the important time frame.
You want to know when can you throw on your costume, go out,
and not have to worry about a lot of rain, a lot of storms.
Don't think it's going to be severe weather at all.
So, you don't have to worry about that.
I think by 6 p.m. Saturday evening, it's a 50% rain chance.
We'll have sunset around 635.
So, a lot of the kids heading out then.
By 8 o'clock, that chance is down to 20% for rain.
And then going into 10 p.m., it's only a 10% rain chance.
So, like I said earlier, the later you go out,
the better off you'll be as far as escaping the rain.
Also, keep in mind, we fall back this weekend,
so that earlier sunset time on Sunday, 5:34 p.m.,
and we're keeping a close eye on Election Day.
Could be a mess out there on the roads, and that could impact turnout
because a strong cold front may roll through,
so we'll talk more about that later in the show.
All right, Ramesha, before we go,
this is the beauty of our new and improved newscast
is that we are reading text messages from people at home.
Remember, I said I wasn't too sure about Halloween trick-or-treating.
Right.
So, Paula, thank you, Paula, for watching.
Paula says that First Colony Mall, in fact,
has trick-or-treating for kids from 12 to 3 on Saturday.
I'm looking at it right now.
Here, she is absolutely correct.
We also have another viewer saying, Deerbrook Mall in the Humble area,
they, too, will be having trick-or-treating for the kids at the mall.
so listen you just google find
the different locations where it's safe for you and your
family to enjoy that time
but Ramesha in fact yes there is some Halloween shopping though
it's great the kiddos have some backup indoor options i love
that i love that thank you guys
so much for sending those text messages
that you see i don't know everything i'm okay to
share with what i don't know all right mish thanks
a lot kiddo much appreciated
