You’ve just landed at Pisa Airport (Galileo Galilei). It’s a small airport, so it can feel busy when you first step out of arrivals, but once you know the options, it’s one of the easiest airports in Europe to leave. In this video, I show you exactly what you see when you arrive, plus the cheapest, fastest, and best ways to get into Pisa city centre or continue on to Florence — including prices, times, and which option makes the most sense depending on your luggage.
What you’ll see: 👀 What arrivals actually looks like (and why it can feel chaotic) 🥪 Food options in arrivals if you need something after the flight 💱 Currency exchange + the app I recommend for the best rates 🇮🇹 PisaMover (the 5-minute shuttle to the station) 🚌 Local bus (cheapest) 🚕 Taxi (fixed fares) 🚶🏼♂️➡️ Walking 🚆 Onward trains/buses to Florence & Lucca 📲 My preferred eSIM

This is Pisa International Airport also known as Galileo Galilei.
The Italian scientist Galileo Galilei. Galileo. Galileo.
Galileo Galilei.
Today I'm showing you how we can get from this little airport
to the center of Pisa or elsewhere so you don't waste
any time when you arrive at this tiny little airport.
The arrivals can feel a bit chaotic when you first step out.
Lots of people, bags, taxis, shuttle signs,
buses but that's mainly because the airport is small.
Everything is squeezed into a compact terminal
so it looks busier than it really is.
Once you know where you're going it's one
of the easiest airports in Europe to get out of.
Straight ahead you'll see the exit.
Before you head outside there are a couple of things worth
knowing. If you're feeling peckish after
the usual crap airplane food there's actually some
decent food options right here in arrivals.
You can grab yourself a proper Italian coffee,
proper Italian sandwich
or something more substantial before you leave the terminal.
It's not gourmet but it's a step up
from what you just had on the plane and it's convenient
if you want to eat before dealing with the prospect of transport.
You'll also see some currency exchange places if you need Euros.
Don't just take the first rate you see, use the Money Maps app,
it shows the best rates nearby and helps you avoid the worst ones.
you can download it in the link in the description
or use the QR code on the screen. It's free to use
and useful wherever in the world you're traveling.
I recommend this app wherever you are traveling.
Right, once you're sorted,
Pisa City Central is only about two kilometers away. The Leaning Tower,
the Old Town, the Pisa Central Station are all right next door.
Whether you're staying in Pisa
or heading into Florence, these are four practical ways out.
The Pisa Mover. For most people this is
the best option. The Pisa Mover
is a driverless automated shuttle that runs from the airport
straight to Pisa Central Station.
It takes about 5 minutes and drops you in the main
train station.
Now we effectively wait for the monorail
to take us to the city centre. From the city
centre you can get trains all over Italy
or you can get buses. It's not cheap, it's one
mile, €6.50. But you know, they're going to make some money I guess.
signs for Pisa Mover or Stazione FS.
They're usually on the left as you come out of the
arrivals. You'll walk a short distance to the platform.
There are ticket machines there. A
single ticket is 6 euros 50 at the time of making this video.
A return is 13 euros. Cards and cash
both work. Now it runs every day from about 6 a.m to midnight
and the summer months it goes until
1 a.m. They come every few minutes when it's busy.
Once you're on it it's a short elevated ride and
you're at Pisa Central.
From the station it's an easy walk into the centre or you
can jump straight on a train to Florence
or maybe you're heading to Lucca or
anywhere else in Italy.
This is the one I take if you've got luggage or if you're
continuing by train.
Now if you're on a tighter budget there's the local bus. The
urban lines including the La Rossa are run
by Autoline Toscane. It costs around
1 euro 70 to 2 euros if you buy the ticket in advance
or a bit more from the
driver it takes about 10 minutes to the station or into the center.
The bus stops outside arrivals
it's the cheapest proper transport option fine if you're traveling light
and don't mind a short
wait. Not as seamless as the Pisa Mover but it works.
Now taxis are right outside arrivals you
can't miss the rank. Pisa has fixed fares
for short trips roughly €10.60 to Pisa Central Station
and about €14.20 to the Piazza del Duomo.
That's where you'll find the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
It's a quick door-to-door
and worth it if you've got heavy bags, kids or it's late.
For a couple or small group, the cost becomes very reasonable.
Just use the official rank,
ignore anyone approaching you inside the terminal.
Just to note, there is Uber here but looking at the prices,
it's twice the price of the taxis.
€43 to get to the Leaning Tower of Pisa
whereas I can get in a taxi probably it's gonna cost me 15 to 20 euros
that's a rare thing when you're
traveling just bear in mind but the best
way to do it you're not in a rush probably public transport take that
public transport you'll be very happy
that makes good financial sense good
advice an alternative you could walk all
the way to Pisa I just walked back from
Pisa to come to the airport hence
the continuity of a different outfit same
shades though. So you could walk to Pisa.
It would probably take you 35 to 40
minutes. But it's a free walk
and to be honest the first 15-20 minutes are pretty
boring. Once you get over
the railway bridge past Central Station then it
becomes very pretty.
So it's up to you which you choose to do. On a beautiful day
it's a nice walk. If you've got heavy bags I don't recommend it.
If you've got lots of
suitcases I don't recommend it.
But if you're after a little bit of exercise I
I do recommend it. It seems that Uber makes no sense here.
Uber makes zero sense here.
So if you want a taxi, the taxis are right up in front of the airport.
Sounds like good healthy
advice. Now you're probably heading to Florence
or maybe Lucca or somewhere else. A lot of people
land here just for those reasons.
The standard way is the Pisa mover to Pisa Central then a
regional train to Florence Santa Maria Novella.
The train part is usually around 9 to 10 euros.
so total roughly 16 euros
and about 70 to 90 minutes door-to-door depending on
the connection. Trains run frequently you can buy
the train ticket at station
machines or on the Trenitalia app or sometimes combined.
Just like that that's
how you navigate from the airport
to the main train system as easy as that.
There's also a direct bus option
that takes about an hour if you prefer not to
change. A taxi all the way to Florence
is expensive well over 150 euros so only
worth it for groups or special circumstances. Now as a quick recap the
Pisa mover 6 euros 50 takes five minutes
to the center best for most people
especially if you're going to a station
and then on to a place like Florence. The
bus the cheapest form of public transport,
taxi fastest and easiest with
luggage and then walking if you're looking to get those steps in and
completely free if you're not carrying heavy bags.
Note that Pisa Airport is
expanding. A new arrivals terminal
was recently inaugurated so follow the
signs carefully as the layout settles.
Always check current prices and times of
the day. That's the honest version
of getting from Pisa Airport into the city
or into Florence. No drama, just practical options.
