Rangers fans just got some BAD news...
Oct 28, 2026
So the Rangers have a new plan to solve the goaltending problem
and it's a pretty big one.
You might want to take a seat because when I first heard it,
I was pretty shocked as well.
David Panjota said yesterday on Morning Cup
of Hockey that he believes it's status quo for the
New York Rangers from the goaltending perspective
in terms of what they're going to do and what
they're looking at in terms of outside help.
They want to wait until Jonas Korpasalo comes back in.
That is allegedly what the plan is.
Jonas Korpasalo is on injured reserve right now with a foot infection.
And basically their plan is to wait for a goalie
who is hurt to get healthy to get back into the lineup
to fit him back into a goaltender situation that is hurting itself.
My name is Darius Dominguez.
This is Rangers Digest.
Guys, today the Rangers revealed their master plan.
plan. But before we get into what other updates
are going on with the Rangers, a quick reminder
to hit that subscribe button.
We've noticed that a large percentage of you guys are not subscribed
to the channel. We just reached over 12,000 subscribers
and I am doing a jersey giveaway
here on the channel for whatever comes first,
either 15,000 subscribers or the Rangers make
the playoffs. So here is how we got here.
After eight games, the New York Rangers were six and two
They are now 7-6-1, which is a 1-4-1 since that start,
and they just lost 6-3 to the Los Angeles Kings
on home ice after being perfect on home ice to start the year.
A team that has fallen off that hard this season with its starter out
for the entire year, and the plan is to look at the calendar and wait.
That is a very bold decision.
Igor Shesterkin is on long-term injury reserve with a knee injury
and he's getting knee surgery
Jonas Korpisalo is on injured reserve with a foot infection
and that is ESPN's injured list as of
today and here's a very interesting name that came out of everything
and these new reports the
Mug NHL posted that the Rangers have talked about
Jordan Binnington John Gibson and Anthony Stolarz
as potential goalie acquisitions
and that is per David Panjota right now the Rangers that are in
net are Dylan Grunt who has an .899 save percentage this season
and James Reimer who's actually listed
as day-to-day with an injury right now
and the best save percentage on the team of any Rangers
goalie still belongs to Igor Shesterkin at a .927
and he is not walking through that door he is not
coming back so the plan is wait till Korpasalo magically heals
from this foot infection he is
skating by the way that's a positive update
but let Dylan Garand and James Reimer have the crease
and see how things go from there
and that is what David Panjota has reported and see how things go
is pretty funny because we have been seeing how things are going
and i love Dylan Garand i think
that he was definitely going to be a fine option to be the backup
but the rangers have gone one
four and one in their last six in their first eight games
of the season the rangers outscored
teams 27 to 14 and in the six games since october 15th they have
been outscored 28 to 17 they gave
up five goals in a five to four loss
in toronto seven goals in a seven four loss in ottawa and
six goals of course on home ice
and a six to three loss to the los angeles kings and that
is 18 goals against in three games all three regulation losses here's
an even bigger problem
mike sullivan after the king's game said i don't
think we have enough guys that were ready to play
from the drop of the puck it wasn't everybody
but we just didn't have enough think about that for a
second as bad as the goalie situation is not ready
from the drop of the puck that's not even a goalie
problem. That is a whole team preparation problem,
and no goalie rumor report trade is going to fix
that specific problem. The night Shesterkin got hurt
was October 9th in Washington, a 3-1 loss,
and since that game, the Rangers are 3-4-1.
A 3-4-1 team is not necessarily a crisis. You can
work your way out of that,
but a 3-4-1 team that loses three games in a row in regulation gives up
18 goals in those games
and here's its own coach question their own mindset going into games
that's going to get talked about
and the plan we got today was to wait and see what happens
and wait and see what happens with Jonas Korpasalo I
do want to be somewhat fair here though nobody
can pull a franchise starting goaltender out
of their hat in October trades are going to take time
you need to find the right goaltender with the right deal
and a deal made in panic is how you
pay too much on the trade market
so that part of the plan isn't necessarily that crazy but they
have to get something done in pretty short order what bothers me
the most right now is that status
quo is not a plan they have six days before their next game
and they're just going to do everything
that they have been doing it's a pretty interesting thing
and it just doesn't seem like Chris Chevelier or
Mike Sullivan have much of a plan
and they don't give the media much either again the problem is
much bigger than goaltending Johnny Lazarus did some digging
with Hockey Info 19 and it's not
pretty okay so since Mike Sullivan took over
as head coach the Rangers are 8 16 and 3 without
Adam Fox they are 13 24 and 3 without Igor Shesterkin
and without both of them they are 2
13 and 1 now with them and Fox healthy since Mike
Sullivan took over they are 33 29 and 7 and with
Shesterkin they are 28 21 and 7 with their stars
in the lineup they are barely over 500 without them
it falls completely off a cliff Johnny Lazarus finished
his tweet with a very interesting quote
And he said that injuries are part of the game,
but you can't ignore the challenges Sullivan has had with this roster.
And what makes waiting and not pushing forward from even
a business perspective not make any sense is that Mike Voronkov posted
from the MSG Rangers SEC filing, the Rangers have lost
about $30.5 million in 2026 and $23.3 million in 2025.
in 2024 they actually made a profit of 26 million the company came out
and said that we are likely
not to be profitable in the near term unless
the rangers make an extended playoff run like they did
in 2024 so you have to ask the question
that if Igor Shesterkin not just on the ice but off the
ice his injury completely decimated this organization top down i'm
also not saying that
the goaltending is 100% the issue.
There's a lot of issues with the team itself. And speaking of
the team itself, the team gave us a bunch of updates today
and a lot of players were actually
not at practice or dealing with injuries.
Colin Stevenson reported that defenseman Sean Durzi
is not skated. He's listed as maintenance
and goalie James Reimer is now out day-to-day
with an upper body injury as well.
He also reported that Eli Tolvanen is not practicing
and the reason listed is personal
this is the second personal day he's had this week on Reimer
specifically Vince Marcagliano says
that Sullivan told reporters holding him out was precautionary
after he came in feeling a little something
and that it does not sound like anything too serious
and then Mike Sullivan was asked whether splitting up Marcus Pettersson
and Sean Durzi was just for
last night or something he might stick
with and he said we might experiment with other looks but
we're having those discussions right now i haven't made decisions yet
on that so mike sullivan
continues to be the king of nothing burgers
no decisions yet on lineup no decisions on defense
pairings no decisions in goaltending
and it's exactly what it is ladies and gentlemen it is
the master plan a lot of people are pointing fingers
at Dylan Garan and Dylan Garan was
asked about his last few games after starting hot
and he said my work ethic and my compete is there
I'm just making a couple of mental errors
and mental mistakes just not executing at the level
I know i'm capable of he said that he thinks he played well in toronto
Which I would agree with but he said in ottawa
He did not love his game and he said i'm excited to get a break reset
and then get back at it and
Man, does he over everyone else definitely need a break?
I respect that and i've always loved how open and transparent
and honest this goaltender is and he always has been since his days
in the American Hockey League.
One other really good piece of news from the Rangers organization
today is the Hartford Wolfpack have announced
that Mark DelGazzo is the new captain of the
Hartford Wolfpack, the 16th captain in team history.
And we talked a lot about him and his
tenacity in the preseason this year.
Congratulations to him on becoming the newest captain. And he's
the only guy in the entire organization they
were actually able to make a decision on today.
So a break is coming. The Rangers do not play again until Sunday,
November 1st against the Edmonton Oilers.
And after that, it is St. Louis on November 3rd
and Philadelphia on November 5th, all of these games being at home.
Right now, they are second still in the Metropolitan Division
with 15 points, but they have played 14 games.
Carolina has 20 points in 13 games.
New Jersey is right behind them with 14 points in only 11 games.
So if they don't go out and trade for a goalie in the next five days,
the master plan is going to get tested in seven games, three at home,
four road games across Western Canada and Seattle with Garand
and a day-to-day James Reimer if Corpus Allo is not back by then.
And we will find out exactly what that report means by status quo.
now them being in second place is still obviously
the best part of all of this but there are teams
behind them that have a lot of games in hand
and things are about to get very serious very quickly
so if corpus allo can come back relatively soon
and back up dylan garan i think they can run with
that but we don't have a definite timeline on dylan garan
and i think that is something that is
very scary and we can talk about a bunch
of goaltenders till we're blue in the face and
there's only a few that actually make sense, right?
I mean, Gibson makes sense. We've talked
about Bennington. Obviously,
Anthony Stolarz was mentioned as well, though he has term on his
contract. But by all reports,
Chris Drury wants to ride this out and see if Jonas Corpusalo can
come back. But let me say this.
When your franchise starting goaltender is out for the season,
one of your best defense pairings
and top defense pairings is being tinkered with. One of those guys
is injured right now you have a rookie goaltender
as your starter you have a couple players on
injury reserve and your team just gave up 18 goals
in three games i can understand why the
fan base would want a plan
that is a little bit more than just preaching patience but let me know
how you feel in the comments below I'm waiting
for Corutsa lo a real plan or should the Rangers go
out and trade for a goaltender
this week i'm leaning towards trade for a goaltender and see
if you can attach Jonas Corutsa lo to a rocket
to whatever team that is and a quick reminder once
again to hit that subscribe button guys we
are at just over 12,000 subscribers my name is Darius
Dominguez this is Rangers Digest
and we will see you for another video tomorrow
