Rangers make MULTIPLE moves... HUGE trade INCOMING | NYR News
Oct 24, 2026
28 seconds. That's how close the Rangers
were to securing yet another point in one of the hottest
starts we've seen from this team in recent memory.
But before we get into that and two players in
particular that are propping up this team,
there's actually a lot going on with the Rangers right now
from a brand new signing to a goalie trade
that is coming from multiple reports because of a
serious update that the Rangers just gave us on one of the goalies.
So about an hour before puck
drop last night, the Rangers made it official.
They have officially signed Luke Glendening to
a regular one-year contract. And like I mentioned on the goalie front,
the Corollary news continues
to get worse and the truth behind why the Rangers
are actually looking for a goaltender has been
revealed. All right,
so there's been a lot of questions about Luke Glendening. So here's the
deal. Let's get into who he is as a player.
Luke Glendening signed a professional tryout deal with
the Rangers on Monday. He's practiced with the team all week,
and then last night it became
official a one-year contract, $850,000,
which is now the league minimum. He is 37 years old. He's
played 934 NHL games between the Red Wings,
the Lightning, the Devils, and the Flyers, and he
started his fall on a tryout with the Lightning
and was released from that PTO. There is two
reasons in particular that the Rangers wanted to sign this player.
First of all, Joe Veleno's
injury status, who is supposed to be the fourth line center,
and the fact that this guy is actually
really good at face-offs and killing penalties.
Joe Veleno got hurt on October 4th against the
Utah Mammoth. The team says that he's out at least three months,
which is obviously very significant,
so we'll be talking mid-January at the earliest at this point,
and he was the guy they signed
this summer to a one-year,
$1.2 million contract to be the fourth-line center. Since then, the
Rangers have tried a couple different options,
including Cole Baldwin and most recently,
Justin Dowling, to be the fourth-line center for this team.
And Justin Dowling actually set up
Oliver Bjorkstrand for a goal last night,
and that was his first NHL point since March of 2025.
But the Rangers need someone there that can play
a role for this team, that can win face-offs,
that can skate. And Justin Dowling has won just 36%
of his face-offs this season. Luke Glendening
Glendening has won 55.6% of his face-offs over
his whole NHL career in 934 games. That is not a hot
streak. That is a guy who knows how to win face-offs.
This is a big deal for the Rangers
because you need guys that can play different roles.
You need a guy that can kill penalties
and win face-offs on the penalty kill.
And not just that, a defensive zone face-off.
You need to be able to trust your fourth line at times.
What if you ice the puck, right?
What if you are just in a defensive zone face-off
and the rest of your team is gassed?
You need a guy you can trust in some of those situations.
Now, I've also mentioned the penalty kill
and he's a huge factor on the penalty kill.
Not just killing penalties,
but in Philadelphia last season,
he played two minutes a night on average shorthanded
and he scored eight shorthanded goals in his career.
The rangers penalty kill is actually one of the best so far this season
They are top five in the nhl and right now it is at 91.7
And Glendening is the kind of guy
who's going to be able to keep it there and keep it running
Well now he's certainly not the most skilled player.
He's not going to be here to score goals
But he's here to play a role. He's here to win face-offs
He's here to play on the fourth line
and this is the type of move that normally i'd be like
Oh, here we go again Chris Drury,
but to be honest with a couple injuries
i think it's a sneaky good move that brings
in some experience to work with some of the younger
guys in that situation as well to prep some
of the younger guys within this organization within
this team to be able to take on situations like that in the future
so that's exactly what he's
going to be for this team a fourth line center he's going
to be slotted in with Oliver Bjorkstrand
and Taylor Raddysh probably on the fourth line
and the obvious move here is to put Luke Glendening
in for Justin Dowling send Justin Dowling back
to the Hartford Wolf Pack and guys at the end of the
day. They have the cap space to make this work.
Igor Shesterkin is out due to an injury for the
rest of the season. They have a little bit of cap space.
Jovelin's $1.2 million is sitting on
long-term injury reserved right now,
and it basically costs them nothing at $850,000.
He didn't play last night because obviously they signed him
to a contract just before the game
started, but his first game with the Rangers
is probably going to be this Saturday against the
Ottawa Senators in their next game.
Guys, really quickly, before we get into a major update on
Jonas Korpisalo. I am doing a jersey giveaway here on the channel.
Thank you so much for the
support on the channel. We're now over 12,200 subscribers.
Thank you so much for the support
the last couple of years and wherever you're
watching, whether it's YouTube or Facebook.
But again, I'm doing a jersey giveaway here
on the channel for whatever comes first,
either 15,000 subscribers or the Rangers make the playoffs.
So make sure you are subscribed here
on the YouTube channel. All right,
let's get into this goaltending situation because this is the
one that's going to make me go gray.
This is the one that's been stressing me out ever since the
offseason when they traded for Jonas Korpisalo.
So if you're just catching up to everything that's
happened, star goaltender Igor Shesterkin is out
for the season with a knee injury. Jonas Korpisalo,
who was the original backup plan for the backup goaltender position,
who was traded for this
summer, still hasn't played a game and he's
also out due to an injury. Earlier this month,
Elliot Friedman revealed that Jonas Korpisalo would
be out for four weeks, and The Athletic
reported that it's a foot infection that he's dealing with.
We talked about that a little bit
yesterday, and he still hasn't started skating,
and that original timeline is already halfway
gone. We are two weeks in to that original timeline.
So now, originally, I was really
upset because why would you trade for another goalie
to replace Dylan Grann, who's actually
been playing very well, but now it's become obvious
the Rangers are still in the goalie market
because we have no idea if Jonas Correleis is going to play, period.
On October 10th, ESPN's Emily Kaplan revealed
that the Rangers are in the market for a goaltender.
They were expected to look for a goalie on the trade market,
and this week, Elliot Friedman revealed
a couple goalies that they've scouted
in Buffalo's Ukko Peltonen, Utah's Karel Vejmelka,
and maybe even Ville Husso in Anaheim.
Something that I was worried about,
and I don't want to get lost in all of this,
is it's become clear to me now that again they're
not replacing Dylan Grann he's playing well but
they need to get him a backup option
because I just don't think you can trust Spencer Martin to
back up Dylan Grann you need another option there
and I thought that that was going to be Jonas
Corposalo Dylan Grann is now 4-3-1 on the season he has
a 9-15 save percentage after a tough game
against the Leafs last night he made 30 saves
and Adam Fox said himself that Grann had to make some
big saves in that game because of what the team
in front of him was giving up it was a really tough
game for the Rangers actually Grann has been good
and he's carried the load he's played six straight
games since Shesterkin went down with an injury
on October 9th six straight he's 24 years old and
he's basically doing this alone with Spencer Martin backing him up
and i'm definitely teetering
towards the Rangers should trade for a goalie
at this point you have no idea when Jonas Corpusalo
is coming back, and even when he does come back,
let's be real about what he is. I thought it was
going to be fine, but at the end of the day,
he is a career 900 save percentage goalie over 334
games, and he was under an 895 save percentage
in each of his last three seasons. I am the biggest
Dylan Grann stand that there is, but unfortunately,
at some point, you are going to, and I've seen it
in the comments, run this kid into the ground.
He's starting way too many games in a row.
he is playing well but at some point he's going to need a break
and you need another goalie there so
you have no timeline on Jonas Corpasaloma you have to go out
and trade for a goalie now and
things are starting to percolate
and i feel like things can move very quickly and now that Connor
Hellebuyck has reportedly been traded
to the New Jersey Devils the one part that does sting about
these trade reports is if you're looking at Karel
the Melka if you're looking at Ukko Peltonen and
both of them have worse stats than
the Rangers current starting goaltender Dylan Garand one other
fun thing that Emily Kaplan has
also floated out there is that apparently Jonathan Quick could be
open to coming out of retirement he's 40 years old he's
the Rangers director of goaltending
development now and he's played 25 games
for them last season he's obviously a Stanley Cup champion
um i don't love that idea especially
because he's retired now but apparently if the Rangers
absolutely needed it, he'd be open to the idea.
Let me know how you feel about this whole situation
in the comments. There's no way you have any idea
of when Jonas Corpasaloma is coming back. The
Rangers are in a tough situation.
I feel like Dylan Garand bought them some time, but unfortunately
now I have to say it, they have to trade for a goaltender.
Now we have to talk about two guys
in particular that are leading the way for this team,
even after, yes, it was a very disappointing
loss, but there's still so much positive to take out
of this team this season. Last night in Toronto,
the Rangers fell behind three different times in the game
but each time they came back Lafreniere
ended up tying it 4-4 with about five
and a half minutes left with his eighth goal of the season
by the way and then with 28 seconds left Troy
Stetcher beats Garand up high which hasn't
happened too often and the Leafs end up winning 5-4
in regulation Mika Zibanejad continues his
hard start and he had a goal
and an assist they are still showing fight they are showing that
they are a team that is playing for each other
and bought into a system now Mike Sullivan did
not like it he called it a loose game
and that it was a game that they did not want to play and
honestly he's right toronto outshot them 35 to 25
and Garand was the reason that it was even close
at some points in this game making some big saves Adam Fox has
been an absolute beast for this team
again this season and the hate that he gets
is unbelievable he had four assists in this game and
and that's his third four assist game
of his career he has 14 assists in 12 games that's the
second in the entire league only behind Connor McDavid after how slow
the rangers started last
season and only won their sixth home game
in january 14 assists in october is quite good
Adam Fox is the employee of the month for october he
also hasn't scored a goal yet this season but
he's continuing to make plays and just be who he is and he's
so underrated defensively as well i
think Adam Fox gets such a bad reputation somehow he's one
of the best defensemen in the entire
league definitely top five defensemen by the way i thought
this was insane there's a Norris Trophy
winner whose career high is 63 assists
and right now he's on pace for 96 assists this season and
guys i have to mention Alexi Lafreniere
who's off to the hottest start of his entire career he did
start slow this season with zero points in his first three games
but since then eight goals and
14 points in nine games, including a hat trick against the Islanders.
He leads the Rangers in
goals and he's tied with Fox for the team lead in points.
I talked about this the other day.
It might not be sustainable, but his career high in goals is 28.
And right now this season,
he's on pace for 55 goals. And again, it might not be sustainable.
He's shooting at like almost
35% right now. That is sure to come down.
But again, it's the hottest start of his career
and he's playing more minutes whether it's five on five
or the power play he's being put in a
position to be a star and he's taking advantage of that moment
and I absolutely love it. All Rangers
fans have been waiting for this and Lafreniere has
been great to start the year, so with the
loss last night, the Rangers are now 7-4
and one second still in the Metropolitan Division
but two of the Rangers players are playing very well: Adam Fox
and Alexi Lafreniere, but one
player in particular and we're going to have
to talk about it is absolutely snakebitten and that
is Pavel Dorofeyev. The next Rangers game
is coming up on Saturday in Ottawa, it's going to
be a big one. It could include Luke Glendening, it's probably going
to include Dylan Garand in goal
but guys I'll keep you updated the rest of the way
for any moves that they make. Let me know how
you feel about everything we discussed
