Hi, welcome to Unsettled Pottery.
I'm Kim and I thought before I do a live Facebook
kiln opening, I would show you what's
on the top shelf. So I did some Desert Sky mugs. This
is a combination of four Ancient Copper,
the fourth coat, I don't go all the way to the
bottom, and three Obsidian
and three Seaweed.
I did Todd's mugs
in that next to the shelf.
Turned out
perfect.
So I think this
firing went well
and quite a bit.
Oh, I better
not show you
this one. This is an order.
Oh, we did show it though, didn't we? Okay. I guess we did show
you this one. So this was one out of the last kiln opening
and I had to refire it. So I just
added, I just added some, there's a little bit of missing,
a missing spot of where it had crawled.
So I just added more glaze and then I added more seaweed to everything.
And this one too, it had crawled all over the place
so I just took some extra thick obsidian
and put it in the spots where it crawled.
So that's why it's so thick there but I think it
still works for northern lights.
Not quite as nice but that's me being picky. This is
also a refire so I just added another coat of light flux
and all the blisters are gone.
Somebody asked in the last kiln opening what I do, what I fire to.
I just put it in the next
glaze load.
So I just fire it the same as what I did the first time.
Oh, I never said what this is.
So this is three firebrook red and then two winterwood
and one light flux over. The light
flux is just over the firebrook red on the top.
And this is the same combination, but Norse blue.
And this is raspberry mist instead
of Norris Blue.
And then I was trying to get it to not blister.
So I did River Birch, a coat of River Birch under the Light Flux.
But that didn't help anything.
So I'll just go back to doing the regular combination.
And then just know that it's probably
a mug I'm always going to have to refire.
But I think I'm okay with that.
It refires nice.
If it didn't refire, and people want it.
It's so pretty.
So, and then these, which is two shallot,
two bougainvillea, and two sunrise.
And then I
pour sandstone over,
overlapping
the shallot a bit
in the bottom of that.
I love that area there.
That's everything on the top shelf.
I will come back and show you the other pieces later.
All right so um yeah it was a pretty good kiln opening
um a few sad things oh I need to grab
I had a bunch
of Northern Lights pieces
from the last glaze load
that crawled and then I added some glaze to the pieces
and I'm not happy with them.
But it's kind of my fault because I was lazy
and didn't want to do a bunch of coats of glaze.
So I just grabbed the really thick obsidian on the side of the jar.
And so it left really dark spots like that and like that.
However, it's not terrible.
It just doesn't look like my other mugs.
So I don't feel like I could put that on the shelf
with or I mean, I don't feel like I
could sell it.
on the website but i could put it on the shelf or just put it on the
slightly flawed shelf but yeah see in here
it's so dark and there anyways they refired
they don't look like my regular regular
pieces anyways can't win them all um
these were also refires they were just on the bottom shelf
and turned out perfect this one as
I already told you the combination
at the beginning, so I won't do that again.
They turn out a little bit different on the bottom shelf,
like it seems a little yellowier
in here. I'm going to grab the other one and show you.
I don't know why that is, because the bottom
shelf is the coolest, always has been the coolest,
unless my elements are going. So I'm going to put
I'm going to put cones on all the shelves the next firing.
I know I need to replace the elements very soon so
maybe I should do it sooner than I thought.
So this one was the top shelf and this was
the bottom. So you can see it's definitely has more
of a yellow tinge in it. It's just overall different.
So I think the bottom might have gotten hotter
and this was the bottom and this was the top shelf.
So similar but it's almost like oops it's almost like
this got a little bit hotter
and this one too was the top shelf so I'm bad
for remembering to put cones into the kiln
really bad but I need to get better.
All right I did dessert plates in just the peppered plum
get four of them because I thought they would go really nice
with this combination.
And I don't think, I think just having
a solid dessert plate is actually nice
as well. So this one is two creme, or two peppered plum,
and then I dip it in studio white,
Over the Studio White. So the previous time that I did
and then I did one coat
this glaze combination, I did two Honeyflex,
of honey flux.
but I thought, oh, I wonder if I could get away with just one.
I got away with it, but I think
maybe two is nicer. Here's a, although that's pretty good.
That's perfect actually.
Yeah, I like that.
And I didn't bring all the mugs over here, but here's a soap.
It also turned out good. Yeah, if I had done two, it might have ran.
And then I did a satin patina,
three coats, and honey flex three coats,
just overlapping about a half an inch in the middle.
Turned out really, really good.
Something strange, though,
and I don't know if it's just because the belly is so big on this one,
but look at how different that is.
I could turn like a brown type color.
That's strange.
And I'm thinking it's just the belly
because the straight sided mugs never do that.
Yeah.
And actually, I never get that dark ridge on the belly mugs either.
I have another belly mug here.
Yeah, you can see a little bit, but it's not the same.
So I think the straight sided.
The straight sides makes
this glazed combination look a little bit different.
Here's another one.
Oh, look at that.
Oh, yeah, I know that's still not the same as the...
Yeah, how pretty is that?
And it has a very weird texture, though.
Like the satin patina is very satin.
This is a little rough.
Not rough, but feels...
You can hear that.
Oh, maybe you can hear that.
So it's kind of like, it feels like.
Underglaze maybe so maybe if I take a really fine sandpaper,
I could just sand it so that it's completely smooth
Oh, I did a bowl in the peppered plum
Combination and then I just did honey flux
on the actually, you know what?
I poured studio white on the inside of this and just did one coat
of honey flux on the inside as well
And I was worried that it would crawl just because whenever you paint
A paintable glaze over top of a dipping glaze,
you run the risk of it pulling away, but it did
fine. Studio White is the most amazing glaze I think I have.
It is by far the most versatile and
yeah, it just seems to always work properly,
no matter the conditions, no matter the temperature.
It's just such a good glaze, reliable, dependable glaze.
All right, so this is
four um ancient copper until about there
the fourth coat i only do i leave about a half an
inch from the bottom and then two winter wood
and one light flux and it also oh no it's not that
different but look at the belly on the belly how
red it can get that's nice i love the variation
turned out good and did a bunch of mugs
in that but i didn't bring them all over to show you
And I did a bowl.
This is a honking big bull.
It really is huge.
So yeah, be with that.
Yeah, there's no flaws.
This was a perfect, perfect kiln load,
except for the Northern Lights pieces.
And I mean, there was nothing wrong with them.
They just did not turn out what I wanted them to look like.
And this is just two Winterwood and one Light Flux.
Also turned out perfect.
So yeah, that's everything.
So today I worked on an ornament, making the mini mug ornaments off
the hump, so I will be posting that probably
around the same time as I post this video, or I'll try to.
Thank you.
So yeah, keep your eye open for that.
