Video Summary
AI GeneratedThis video provides a comprehensive guide on creating \"glowing potions\" art using chalk pastels and colored pencils. It covers techniques for blending colors, creating reflective surfaces, adding unique visual textures to potions, and finishing the piece with creative backgrounds and custom labels.
In this video, I'm going to go over some things to consider for your glowing potions project.
First, when coloring with your chalk pastels, really play with the color. Use at least two
different chalks for each of your potions, and you can also have some different effects coming
out of the bottle, and you can also color the glass bottle itself if you want it to be
Next, for the surface that the bottles are on, imagine it is a reflective surface of some kind,
so there is going to be a reflection of this glow in whatever color that you use in your
potion that would be underneath your bottle. So use plenty of color on top of that white
colored pencil, and for that tabletop or that surface that your bottles are on,
you're going to want to color that whole area as well. So make sure you have a horizon line
breaking up the space, showing you where that tabletop surface is starting, and if you don't
want to touch the chalk pastels, just wrap a finger and a paper towel and use that wrapped
finger to help you do your blending. With chalk pastels, you can easily cover up colors when you
place new colors on, so just keep in mind you can always go back and rework an area. You might need
to add more of that colored glow on top after filling in that tabletop surface. Next, I want to
remind you that each of your potions should have a different visual texture. What I'm doing right now
is I'm just trying to make it look like this potion is kind of fizzing, like there's little
spurts of color coming up from the surface. Other ideas are to add bubbles or swirls or flames or
smoke. In addition, you also want to do something creative with your background. I'm just going to
go in with a couple colors and add what looks kind of like a ribbon of smoke or like a little cloud
of smoke in a different color, kind of going across that page. This is just one idea though, so don't
feel like you have to do exactly what I'm doing. Add what feels right to you. I'm also going to add
a couple little starbursts, like a bit of a twinkle or a sparkle is also in that background.
A very easy way to do this is to start with two lines that are crisscrossing, make those lines a
little bit longer, and then an X through the center. Whenever you feel like you might be finished using
chalk pastels, I would recommend going back in with your white colored pencil and just going over some
of those white lines again, just to make them a little bit brighter. You can also go in with a
white chalk pastel and add some highlights back in. As a final step, I would like you to add a label to
each of your bottles to let us know what kind of potion is inside or what kind of powers it has.
So to do this, you're going to want to create a label on a separate sheet of black paper
using either a metallic or a white pencil or gel pen. Cut out your label and then you're going to
attach it where you'd like it to go. Your label could be on the front of the bottle or it could
appear to be hanging off of the bottle. I can't wait to see how your glowing potions end up and
I hope this video helps inspire you to continue your drawing.
