This is absolutely delusional from them. Austin Reeves coming to the San Antonio Spurs in a mock trade for Stephon Castle, Jeremy Sohan, and Devin Vassell? What are we even doing here? Why is this a thing? We're going to discuss the trade, how it would look, and why it's ridiculous even more so than what it is on his face here on Spurs Digest with your host Keenan Warner. and if you guys haven't yet make sure you guys take a spur of the moment to get every spurs moment by hitting the subscribe button so you don't miss all the great content we've got coming for you tomorrow marks the official first year of spurs digest and i want to just say thank you to everybody who was here for the first year all the new subscribers the first last and everybody in between we appreciate everybody who has been here with us and we're hopeful to make this one of many years and it all starts with you guys thank you I know we're going to go live more soon especially during the year we're going to try to be doing more with the channel there's going to be great things to come we appreciate everybody and we hope that you guys are here to see everything that's going to be going on but now back to some humor real quick guys now back to some humor we understand it is the middle of summer and so obviously this the very very in-depth news of the San Antonio Spurs and the NBA doesn't really always find itself there people on vacation doing their things trade deadline everything's over but when you see things like this you just can't help but laugh you just can't help but have a mock trade LA deal sending Austin Reeves to the San Antonio Spurs at first you're like hmm Austin Reeves on the Spurs you get a better version of Vassell with the way he can actually create 20 point per game score but when you look at the package you're like oh wait let's talk about it obviously Reeves last year the true third option for the Lakers he was one of three players to average 20 um on that roster which I think it's the first time ever that three players have actually averaged 20 plus I could be wrong on that but it's a rare feat nonetheless outperformed many of his expectations especially when he entered the NBA Lakers are not likely looking to really move him but at the same time they're in a position right now was do they build for the future do they try to stay for the present how LeBron all that good stuff and Reeves last year just to give a little show here in full 20 points four and a half rebounds 5.8 assists 46 percent from three 37.7 percent from the three-point line he didn't have a great playoffs but hey it's okay it is perfectly fine and it's very understandable because he was playing a tough Minnesota team and that team really got out physical by that minnesota team but he would be a great addition honestly i would really love Austin Reeves on this roster he fits he can be an iso scorer but he also can play off the ball he would really fit what we need and he's a legitimate shooter but but when you offer trade packages like this when we're about to get into you're like wait we're not even going to we wouldn't even pick up a phone the next time they called but obviously we have a bunch of young assets and we have a lot of things that we can do moving forward are we going to keep everybody are we going to try to move off of something to upgrade at certain positions or what what are we going to do we have a lot of different options well right now we love the fact that we can just stay as we are see how the season goes and we have the year to trade people we have until February to go trade people but let's look at this guys sorry let's not look at Austin Reaves stats real quick let's look at this so the Spurs we would receive Austin Reeves, Gabe Vincent, Jared Vanderbilt, Maxi Kleba. The Lakers would be getting Devin Vassell, Stephon Castle, Jeremy Sohan, and a first round pick. So three of the top four players in this trade are going to the Lakers. Not even for debate or argument. The only argument is is Austin Reaves the best player here as of right now yeah at the end of next year probably Stephon Castle if we're going to be quite honest with you for the Lakers if they did this they're instant contenders you get the defensive guard that's young and Stephon Castle you get a guy who can mimic Austin Reeves and Devin Vassell and you get a very versatile defender in Jeremy Sohan with a pick yeah if I'm the Lakers I'm loving this deal and the second you sign up on it But just because they were able to lock into great business with Luka and have that on a silver platter, like, yeah, we'll give you our super-duper star just for an injury-prone Anthony Davis, who's obviously a superstar in his own right. But Max Christie's not really the piece that you're like, oh, great. But for the Spurs, what would we even think about this? We're getting rid of Stephon Castle, who we weren't wanting to get rid of Stephon Castle for Kevin Durant, We weren't wanting to even really get rid of him for Giannis if we didn't have to. We were going to try to keep Stephon for Giannis, and we're like, nah, Austin Reaves, we'll just take him. That's perfectly fine. Okay, cool. Gabe Vincent hasn't been great since the 2023 NBA Finals when he played against them. He's been injured. He's a fine shooter. But if we're getting a guy, we don't really need that point guard. That point guard's not a necessity to us. We have players who could fill in the Gabe Vincent role. Jared Vanderbilt, the idea of Jared Vanderbilt would be really nice. He's a better defender than Jeremy Sohan. Like, he's actually, even though Jeremy Sohan's a very good defender, and Jared Vanderbilt, I mean, maybe not better, but he is a very good defender, I should say, not in comparison to anything. Very good defender. He can't stay on the court. And then Maxi Kleber, pick and pop big. Oh, that would be really cool if we didn't already have a pick and pop big in Kelly Olynyk and we're getting a second-round pick out of it. That would be really cool. why this was the way they would put this trade is insanity to me take out Stephon Castle take out Jeremy Sochan add in Harrison Barnes take out literally Gabe Vincent Jared Vanderbilt keep Maxi Kleba in the second round pick and it'd be Devin Vassell and Harrison Barnes for Austin Reeves Kleber second and we maybe give them that Hawks first pick this um next year a trade like that that I could see that could work and maybe that's something that they would be able to do but this this is an atrocity this is an atrocity why does this make sense for the Spurs let's just see why they think this makes sense the Spurs add Reeves will go all in now with Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox Reeves proves he can serve as a strong third option to show his brightest moment yes he can be a third option that's why he would work on this team but why would we give up what we were going to be giving up in that trade they also have a handful of role players who can fill the void trading away Vanderbilt's elite defender when healthy Vincent another proven big game player let's not act like Gabe Vincent would get more than eight minutes on this roster when we have Dylan Harper and De'Aaron Fox already playing your one and then we'd have Austin Reeves playing like it's not like make that obviously he can play he can shoot threes this trade could turn the Spurs into legitimate contenders this season if everything falls into place the cool thing is the Spurs can be legitimate contenders this season if everything falls in place without making a move on the roster if Stephon Castle takes that next step after a winning rookie of the year if Victor Wembanyama can really just become and cement himself as a top five player in the game De'Aaron Fox stays the same Dylan Harper's as good as advertised Devin Vassell buys into the defense defensive side of the football defensive side of basketball he actually plays on that end of the court at a high level Jeremy Sohan develops the shot all of those stuff is actually in reality and if that happens they're going to be there a legitimate contender anyway actually guys just like take a look at this first these uh the starting five and then the second unit you'd have Fox, Reeves, Barnes, Vanderbilt, Wemby, Harper, Champagnie, Keldon Johnson, Olynyk, and Cornet Is that better than if you put Vassell in there, if you put Sohan in there, and if you put Stephon Castle in there? It's not. But right here, this is sometimes why not everybody should be making trades. And I completely understand that everybody has their own ideas. And the great thing about the world is we have opinions, we have ideas, we have things that we can bounce off of each other. And a lot of people who may not be qualified do have really good ideas and really good things that they put out there in the ether, in the earth. then we can talk about it and go back and forth with it because not everybody's perfect. But this is just one of those moments where a mock trade doesn't work out well. Let me know what you guys think. Do you guys think that... Does anyone think that this would be a good trade?
