This has massive implications for the San Antonio Spurs
as Dylan Harper in a recent interview has talked
being compared to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Stephon Castle.
Our Rookie of the Year was seen working out again
with the guard whisperer.
And this is going to be massive for him moving forward.
And we are going to discuss all of this here on Spurs Digest
with your host, Keenan Mourner.
And if you guys haven't yet, make sure

so you don't miss all the great content that me Josh
and Brian have coming for you we are coming
to you daily with great stuff
and we are on the road to 10k we were hoping to do it before the
season now we're hoping to do it before the first year
of the channel is officially here but this
guy Dylan Harper as we see here 6'6" 215 19 points about five rebounds
and four assists this was his
collegiate stat that we see here
and we obviously know all about Dylan Harper and how he plays the
way he got downhill he shut down for the summer league
but the two games that we saw from Dylan
Harper were great to see
and I mean he was asked in a recent little interview talking about his
comparison to Shea Gilgis Alexander
and to him he said that's a new one that's definitely someone I
watch his pace and how he gets to the rim
and I mean it's hard not to right here this is what you
see the Dylan Harper measurables in full about 6'6"
and shoes 6'4" about 213 about that 6'11"
wingspan standing reach there
when it comes to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander he is six foot
six and a half so around the same height that same-ish wingspan
so two guards that have strength
and he weighs around 195 in his playing days now he's up
to about 200 maybe even 202 203
guys that are similar in build in comparison with the long arms
and then we get into even more
This is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this year.
He leads the league in drives per game,
23.6, for the fourth straight season.
His field goal percentage on drives, 57.6,
is the highest mark over that stretch.
This is a guy who, as we well know,
with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, really can get downhill.
And as you see here, this is in the finals here, game six,
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is just able to get himself to the basket.
The way he's able to read off of that screen from Lou Dort,
get over even with Haliburton there, doesn't matter.
And then we see right here,
this is none other than our guy, Dylan Harper.
Look how he reads that screen
and is able to weave his way through the defense.
Dylan Harper has that same kind of ability to get downhill
and as you see there, finish in traffic.
but we not only does that showcase
in the video it showcases here with the statistics he finished
67.6 percent of his shots in the restricted area during
his collegiate career self-creation high
of these were off his self-creation only two out
of ten being assisted really 17.6 i believe
is the exact number on that and the half court
finishing he shot 62.5 percent at the rim in half
court situations and he draws fouls at a high rate
that obviously the foul baiting is something
that people really got onto Shai for but Shai
was able to get to the paint and get to the line
at a highly efficient level
and that is what Dylan Harper has showcased he could do in the
collegiate game and what he already showed he could
do in the two summer league games that we
saw so is it weird to think oh yeah we're now
comparing Dylan Harper, sorry about that, we're
comparing Dylan Harper to the MVP, yeah well look
at this here Shai Gilgeous-Alexander if for
people who obviously don't know it's he doesn't
just instantly become Shai, he has been getting
better and better and better every season, first season 26
and a half minutes only average 11
points three rebounds three assists Dylan Harper should eclipse
that this year and a spike up to
19, 6, and 3, then it's 24, then it's 25,
and then it's the three straight 30-point
seasons, culminating in this year with a 68-win Thunder team,
an MVP, and now himself a champion.
So, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has the kind
of trajectory that we hope for Dylan Harper.
Of course, we want him to be an MVP candidate someday,
but the thing is with Dylan Harper
is he shares a lot of the similarities with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The way that he plays, the way his mindset
of being able to get to the basket.
He gets to the basket efficiently.
He does it in a way that a lot of people haven't been able to.
I mean, Harper made his name for himself as a slashing guard,
which is not seen that much in the collegiate game for some time.
70% on 170, that's this year.
the 67 was over his totality
of his collegiate career, excellent body control and balance and
that's what you would say about Shai
the deceleration, the ability to stop on a dime
leave no change and get buckets there, so Dylan Harper
and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as you think
okay I don't know if he's at that level
or he can even get to that level of being maybe the
best player in the league but is a guy
who you could see comparisons to when it comes to the
game entirely but from one one guard on our roster
who hopefully can win rookie of the year to the
one who last year did win rookie of the year
and that is Stephon Castle and then we got Olin Simples
the guard whisperer, he's worked with a wide array of NBA
and WNBA players, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as
we just spoke on, Spencer Dinwiddie, Evan Mobley
Stephon Castle, KD, Caris LeVert, Reggie Bullock
Stephen Adams, the list goes on, there's even
there's way more than this, he's been working
with VJ Edgecombe over in the draft as well
this year, Aman Thompson's another guy and he is
a guy who really can focus
and get there with the buckets get there with the game and how he is
playing, he was talking with Stephon Castle about he
was talking with Stephon Castle during their
workout, this workout just happened
a little bit ago, he's worked out with him even before that
he said that all-star this year, he kept repeating it
that Stephon Castle can be an all-star this year
and he also should finish top four, the pressure
is on because of the talent, with Dylan Harper, with
Wemby, with De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, in the way he
is, he sees big things from Stephon Castle and they
have been getting in the lab
and they have really been working out, we've seen here, this is a report
from before, they don't call him the guard whisperer
by accident, he turns good guards into
stars, stars into all-stars, one
of the NBA's most trusted trainers he's helping Spurs
Stephon Castle take his game to the next level
and a little bit of a peek here, he's talking with
him about the way he was shooting I watched
this video, it's like a 17 minute video on YouTube but
I can link it down there in the comments there
but Stephon Castle making sure he keeps that guide
hand fully getting arc on that jump shot
the one thing with Stephon Castle that we all know
is that his jump shot has been the thing
that has left him the most throughout the entirety of his
career thus far I mean 14.7 points
a game four rebounds four assists we should he showcased how
he could really play getting downhill
the athleticism is unparalleled and obviously we
understand that his left to right sideline sideline
to sideline speed lateral quickness is elite
it's the 43% of shooting from the floor
because of that 28.5% shooting from the three-point line
only making less than 35% of his corner threes
and I mean when you're shooting a decent amount
of threes especially for the day's game you need
that to at least be around the 33% range
and a guy like the guard whisperer is going
to be able to make these things happen for Stephon
Castle but let me know in the comments what you
guys think about Stephon Castle really getting
work how good of a shooter do you think he can become can he get
to that 33 34 percent from the
three-point line this season do you believe
that and do you believe that he has all-star capabilities
this season I want to know your thoughts there
and what do you think about the Dylan Harper and
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander comparison do you believe
that it's warranted do you believe that it's real
or do you believe that it's a little bit too much let me know
in the comments down there but again
