Before this conflict, Iran mined the Straits and threatened to blow up any ships who sailed through the area without their permission and an accompanying toll or fine. The mining and threats had severely disrupted traffic, creating a backlog that has threatened global energy prices and supply chains. Trump has announced that that game is now officially over.
