🔴 LIVE - We are out collecting invertebrates

Looks like we're maybe alive. All right, we've been pushing the net through the water. Caught in the rain. You see I got soaking wet. We're gonna go over and catch up with Frank and Jeffrey in a minute. But I wanted to show you what we've been able to come up with so far. Some pretty cool little little animals there's our gobies shrimp gobies toadfish see us a sea urchin there's a big toad fish there little tiny pygmy seahorse big pipe fish somewhere in here see him maybe got out so that's there's the pipe fish down the bottom with a seahorse attached to his nose so that's what we got so far and we're gonna uh i'm gonna grab this jar close up here i've got to go pick up frank's cigarettes which are over there give you a look at the water because we're in sarasota bay there's a little sailing club going by us we'll go get his cigarettes we'll go over there let's see i can see lots of father fishes but i can't really tell I can't read who they're from, so I'm sorry. I can see Hi Mary, Hi Father Fish, I can't really tell, I'm just reading names that people are posting, so I can't read the blue. It's too tiny. But if you post a hello, then I'll be happy to read the hellos. It's a little early, but I wanted to kind of get going on this because it's such a beautiful day here. we just had a storm that went through real hard rain and a lot of wind but it's gone now the water here's frank's stuff the water is just crystal clear little wavy so you can't really see it because it's a little a little wind but the water is just as clear as the bell all right let me get his stuff here and we're gonna go over and see if we can catch up with these guys they're out here i think i'm not going to be pushing the net anymore i'll let them do it and i'll just show show what they're doing i can see i can see jeff way over there in the water you probably can't see him he's about 100 yards away and i'm a little slow so bear with me it's hard to read this screen with us in the sunlight i'm coming under a canopy in a minute so we'll uh oh be able to see it a little better let's see hello father fish this is exciting beautiful it is pretty it's very pretty looks like a perfect day yes indeed it's just lovely really pretty day that's Sarasota in the distance it's if you can see the bridge coming over to uh oh uh that's the Ringling Bridge it's where John Ringling's home was built originally I think his sister had a place on that island right in front of us look at that that pretty when all these pictures are at the bottom if i can get down to the water there there's an embankment i guess we'll see when we get there i just want to keep my camera out of the water mostly they've gone down a bit further look at this look at this what do you do what are you doing yeah they're down a ways i'm gonna i'm not gonna walk in the water because i don't want to fall down and lose the camera or lose my phone Let's just walk along here. I can get down to it through a pathway down here. And I might get shaded enough to be able to see your comments. This is a little park at the end of City Island. City Island houses a Pelican Man Sanctuary. It's a bird sanctuary. And also houses a big restaurant, a marina. Ernie's in back of us. and a Mote aquarium the Mote research lab and aquarium and i've got a stone in my shoe that really hurts and i can't do much about it yeah yeah you looks like a little rain there i can hear i can hear Frank this will be interesting through a little glade area here on a deck really nice i don't know if i'm gonna be able to get down to the water we'll see this is cool i can hear the boys i think i'll look at this oh cool a little oh hey guys i'm coming mangroves a mangrove we're in a mangrove swamp here and it's kind of underwater i guess this is tidal i don't know if i'm gonna be able to get to them i might not mangrove might have me blocked from the water i hear them hey you guys i'm on the other side of the mangrove yeah i think i can see a way to get to you okay all right got it oh okay yeah this is all tidal the tide's really high here we are right back where we started that was a nice little walk we should do the whole path it was kind of cool redfish bluefish did a walk through a park like that a while back it was pretty nice all right a lot of comments afraid i can't read any of them though it's just too much too much overhead light so you guys can entertain yourself there they are right there look at that i got your cigarettes let me leave them here we're gonna get wet so it's all mud down there um what if have you gotten anything else interesting i guess we'll get out here see what they're doing i'm in water up to my waist ah look at that come around right in front of jeff is that kumaran gonna eat you look at him there's a kumaran right in front of jeff baby snapper yeah they are pretty they're also totally illegal well yeah well it's a game fish so it's a size limit thing let me show yeah uh yeah sure is there they are pretty little fish gorgeous yeah yeah they are pretty but i can't pick the net up no you can't keep them i'd love to be able to okay so we're getting a lot of shrimp we're getting a lot of shrimp we're getting some gelatinous material that's kind of yucky a little clam there's a crab yeah a little crab swimming around that's that's a different kind yeah probably is a stone crab um yeah yeah that's a stone yeah grow up big guy and we'll eat you later oh dead clam and lots of shrimp yeah and there's uh this is what we've been getting here yeah here here's the jar i did change the water in it somebody bites you hermit crabs and snails cool yeah there's the starfish hanging on the side of the jar he's now out of the water i guess we ought to flip that over get my break yeah see what jeff's up to here this is a sailing club all these little boats are a children's sailing club and the monitor boats are are these two rubber kodiaks there are two of them that are out keeping track of the kids here's a zodiac there's another one over there teaching them how to sail and somebody somebody in a swan I don't know what that's all about that's kind of funny there's two zodiacs there's a Bunch of kids out there. Bunch of kids out there with two Zodiacs. That's a great program. Teach kids how to sail on these little, what are they called? These little tiny boats. There's a little fish, it's the name of a fish. Might be, might be, I don't remember. It's been too many years since I've heard the name. Somebody's probably typing it, but I can't read anything, so it's hopeless. I can't even see anything. I'm assuming we're still there. Seem to be, yeah, I think so. There's a bunch of people in here. They're making comments, but I can't see them. What is it? Little mussel, I'm gonna keep him. Oh, cool. Yeah, they're good. They're good. Make the water a little bigger. I'm really impressed with, yeah. Yeah, I'm real impressed with what he's able to do with that little net. He's done better than we've done with the bigger nets. Yeah, yeah, I noticed that. Yeah. They're right, yeah, right over there. You might have had to head toward them. Yeah, exactly. Right. Oh, okay. Yeah, I don't need to trip. Don't need to trip with my phone in my hand. Oh, wow. Okay, okay. Yeah, I remember when they were not in the water. Wasn't that long ago. These trees used to be, when I first started coming here, these trees were all 15, 20 feet back from the water, washed out. This one was not in the water. The mangrove was like that. That's the mangrove swamp that we were walking through. If we'd have continued on, we'd have been able to go out on that pier. Nice, nice walkway. Nice little path. She being towed that's cheating somewhere I'm going to kick a piece of rock here and stand up on it coming up I can see it below me there it is ah really it drops off pretty quick here what you got in the net let's take a look let our guests see what you got a bunch of grass and muck shrimp if you can see them there's a couple of shrimp should be finding more pygmies Yep. I'm surprised we haven't. Maybe the water It's too hot for them. Yeah, well, we got these two. Oh, I got another one. A while ago. Oh, you did? Oh, okay. So we got three. That'll get somebody up here A few more, yeah. That'd be great. I don't know what I'm walking on here, but it's an uneven bottom, like I'm kicking bricks. Check out Jeff's net here. See what he's got. Look, a bunch of grass. Got a big rock. Rocks are good. Hardscape mud pretty rock look at that but bunches of shrimp lots of shrimp you see if you had a sea or some there would you find them i usually try to shake it in the water i'm not sure it really works it'll move yeah that's the trick is to watch them see them moving because they have a very distinct movement that shrimp jumping out of this i'm dumping it frank though i don't see him probably smoking a cigarette see all that up there on the yeah i see him up there talking to somebody oh he's way over yeah lots of shrimp look at all the shrimp kind of sinks there's a couple green ones in there oh really yeah i thought i just saw one huh there's the type of shrimp that's found around here that's very very thin and long and green really pretty shrimp and i've found them very difficult to keep alive maybe i didn't no they didn't hmm they're sure a lot of shrimp in that nut though all right i'm gonna head back over to the van and get in it so i can go through some of these comments and chat with you guys now we can go to it where do you think back behind in the swamp area no with grass flat oh yeah boy there was a hole well we can try it if there's a grass flat grass flats are always good he's talking about let's see this area here which you can't see much of from here it's Bird Key that's all Bird Key that's again that's Ringling Bridge and that's Sarasota downtown Sarasota Ringling Bridge going on the Bird Key You can't really see much. You've come all the way around There's another bridge, a little one, that comes over to where we are now on City Island and then a bigger bridge that goes on up behind City Island to Longboat Key. Longboat Key runs north 20 miles or so all the way up to Anna Maria so we're kind of we're on the west coast of the east coast west coast of the east coast there's a pirate ship out there look at that a two masted schooner black super duper some work on the on the marina first I would guess airplane is coming out of SRQ Sarasota Airport just taken off headed i don't know where it's headed west i'm gonna go out over the gulf maybe go to Texas or something I came down here this was one of the first bodies of water I came to when I first moved down to Sarasota and I kind of fell in love with it I was out here collecting getting a lot more stuff than we got today we did get some very nice gobies and I'm really excited about that because they're a really pretty fish great fish in a community tank they're colorful they're not a really nice fish so that was kind of fun and we got all different kinds of which is what we were looking for now you know we need to get a bucket of mud and a bucket of sand um and we're going going to do better getting it here than Bird Key probably Yeah, about a half a bucket of each. There's Frank. Frank's underwater. He is underwater. Oh, he went back and got his, he went back and got his mask He's snorkeling. Yeah, he's, he is determined. Single focus to his. did you get your mask did you get the mask I forgot to bring you the mask no I forgot it we're gonna go to another spot you'll be able to use it there screen I really can't see a thing don't know what I'm doing am I no I'm not what you got oh how pretty very for another goby uh frank's on his way toss it in yeah i've got the jar there yeah they are nice i'm amazed how many of them are here look at the orange yeah they're just great pretty big they get big too they get a three really they get like four inches that's a goby um what is it called yeah it's yeah there's well there's another one that is the hairy blenny looks just like it but it's got extensions on the top of the head this is an oyster blenny i think i don't know the difference between a blenny and a goby and a goby i'm not sure there is one there probably is i just don't know what it is all right we're gonna get out of the water here and go up into the van where it's dark enough to see what's on the screen if i can do this without falling oh amazing i've ordered some uh product to help me lose weight and to build my stamina i'm just hoping that it works i need to get my blood pressure down it's going up but weight's the key all right here we are my god i'm in all right let's flip the screen hi there take my glasses off see if we can oh i don't know if i can read this probably not without the glasses this is exciting let's see we saw that a lot of comments oh listen this is huge immense i'll be here but i have to monitor my phone what's that mary page meeting between the doctors my daughter is going on right now what does keep seahorse saying i'm energetic looks like father ocean feel like it sometimes he looks a bit like santa right there is that howdy fish fam this is jeffrey come on just got here can't wait to see what they catch they're going to be back here in a minute with the jar we'll go through it again 31 watching 15 likes hit the like button very tough job in the water right come on happy today my carb and really said little baby shrimpies how nice check your sugars yeah i need to eat something we're gonna stop and have lunch pretty quick here let's see we'll go back a little invertebrates are special categories which include shrimp that's right looks beautiful afternoon it was raining earlier and it cleared up it's still real cloudy but nice who's that Lee, it must be Lee. Okay you want to dump everything into this yeah let's dump the shrimp in there that'll be better i'd like to put everything together if we could well if we put this bucket with the shrimp in it that's most of the yeah we don't need to put the plants in there that'll be good bring that over and dump it i mean we can do more yeah put this stones that's with it because there it goes okay okay get the other stone in there see if the other stone works also you got not in it yeah a little bit wow okay yeah we did good yeah put that let's get this up here okay well let's try to get one more stone i got at least this okay well that's just dirt okay so you have another stone in there how many stones are running in both of them well let's put one of them in there and then try to to get the the other one hooked up probably not near enough it's full of full of plants so it's gonna require a lot of air to work to untie it we really need more air in this than that one all right looking at your hands you're gonna hide your hands now that's yeah that's better ain't great but it's better all right yeah really they were riding the uh white fish the other day all right let me get in here and chat a little bit we're gonna finish this up and we're gonna go get something to eat we got a little more a little more work to do with airlines and stuff oh dear all right good bad are my Amano shrimp yeah somebody scooped a shark's tooth Oh, really?
