In the Heights returns to the stage at New York City Center

I saw In the Heights on Broadway when I was seven years old. This show is my entire personality. Lin-Manuel Miranda's In the Heights is back in New York. Leading the cast is New Jersey native Matt Martinez, with neighborhood inspiration straight from North Bergen. How did growing up in New Jersey influence you, your own barrio? How did it make you the person you are today? North Bergen is a very culturally lively place. We would have block parties, very similar to In the Heights. I have really, really great nostalgic memories, just like drawing chalk on the sidewalk and then dancing on top of it. And the whole cast grew up on this show. It means everything because it was the first show in which I saw myself represented. This is not just for me, it's for them and it's for my family and the people who brought me in. And for Aaron James McKenzie and Jackie Calderon, it's a dream come true. This is truly what I've been praying for my whole life. Still pinch me all the time. I can't believe it. A neighborhood story with plenty of hometown pride. At New York City Center for News 12, I'm Joel Crump.
