We begin with a new heartbreaking development
in the Van Zandt County cases of the house fire.
Good evening. I'm Steve Eager. I'm Heather Hayes.
A mother and child died from burn injuries caused
by a house fire that already claimed the lives of three other children.
It's a devastating loss
to one family and has left a community grieving.
Fox 4's Alex Boyer live tonight with more. Alex.
Hey, guys. You know, this tragedy, of course,
just continues to get worse as we have now learned two
additional family members from that same family have now died
as a result of their injuries.
I can tell you that a relative just released
a photo to us a short time ago, and I can tell you
that Van Zandt County residents are coming together
to organize a meal train to help the survivors
during this difficult time. Take a look.
Now, investigators now confirm that the mother,
along with her fourth child,
have died from injuries sustained in that fire at their home
in Canton yesterday. A 27-year-old mother has
been identified as Jasmine Henson. Her children
ranged in age from three to nine years old.
The fire tore through their home just after midnight
on Wednesday, and Henson's husband and a grandmother survived.
Due to the intensity of the fire,
firefighters were forced to breach an exterior wall
to enter the home, and the crews were able
to quickly locate the children, but three had already died.
The community is coming together.
they're jumping in to help. In addition
to the meal train that I mentioned, there's also plans
to host a benefit barbecue this weekend.
We know how to feed the masses, and I can't think of a
worse and better cause to feed a bunch of people.
It's just a horrible tragedy. We just need to
help. I think Van Zandt County specifically
is probably one of the strongest counties around.
I mean, bar none, there's nobody
that comes together like Van Zandt County. And it's happening
at his home there located at 450 West Kansas Street.
That's in the city of Van. He used to
own a restaurant in the area
and says that the fundraiser will last as long as there is food to
serve. Now, some of the kids who died attended Canton ISD,
which is making counselors and support
staff available on campus for anyone
who needs to talk about this tragedy. And I can tell you that
my colleague Peyton Yeager has been in contact
with the mother's sister. That is how we were
able to obtain that photo.
They are not interested in making any public comment,
which is understandable at this time.
They're focused on the surviving family members,
of course, who are now navigating this tragedy.
In the meantime, I can tell you that the fire
remains under investigation. Back to you.
All right, Alex Boyer in the control room
this evening. Alex, thank you.
