That's right, Rup. This is a tragic situation
that only gets more tragic as we learn the
details about this. So we're outside of the courthouse here.
There's not going to be any
arraignment today, but that will come in the days ahead.
But here's what we know. I had a chance to
speak with the family of everyone involved,
and they call this obviously terrible, grieving the
loss of a 15-year-old boy, Trenton Grant,
while also coming to terms with the person allegedly
responsible for all this being his brother,
someone who according to the family was extremely
close with the victim.
Pictures of Tyson Grant along with his brother Trenton show a loving
relationship. The same story
that their sister Leandra Baker told me today over the phone. She
says their 27-year-old brother Tyson is a successful Marine
and devoted brother who became
increasingly isolated in the years after their father died.
Baker describes him as someone who
a successful career and was involved in Trenton's life
as a coach, a mentor, a father figure, but she
says after their father died back in 2022, Tyson began
to withdraw from the world around him
she believes that he never really processed that loss
and recently he began to get delusional about
the role of AI in his life, taking down all
the mirrors in his house and getting rid of all of
his electronics. Well, on Saturday morning, police
were called to their home on Rain Tree Boulevard
where Tyson lived with Trenton and their mom
and their stepfather. Trenton was found stabbed to
death, the other two badly injured, and the suspect, Tyson
also taken to the hospital for smoke
inhalation after the home was set on fire, I
also spoke with the CEO of Monroe Community Mental
Health Authority who says a tragedy
of this magnitude can make families feel helpless but
there are resources. Yeah, it's really easy to, you know, second guess
or look back but we're all doing
our best and we can just only do what we can
do, and I, I can't say, you know, I'm sure that families
do feel that and it's easy in hindsight
but I think all we can do is really be there as a
community and what we're trying to do is get out
and educate people: what are the signs and symptoms
what should you be looking for? Uh, we do, we try
to do a lot of that here. Now as for the mother
Rachel, we're told by uh the sister that I spoke
with that she is in stable condition and is
improving. Now the family wanted to reiterate that there
is no love loss between Tyson and the family that they say
that this is simply a situation in terms of the mental illness
that got away from him there. They do still have a GoFundMe up.
